I have a theory for kroguard Vs reapers - which I'll admit I haven't tested yet.
Use the acylote and the ppr.
Acolyte/BC should be able to handle to ground troops - fire explosions on husks/cannibals. PPR for the armoured units.
Allows to attack from a safe distance. When barriers go down, charge the nearest husks.

Proposed loadout for gold: Cyclonic 3/4, incendiary ammo, assault amp, Structual ergonomics gear for cool downs. I'll have to test on a solo run. Wouldn't want to inflict the idea on a team if it doesn't work out.

Thank you very much for the effort and the really nice guide, the next time someone asks me about Kroguard game mechanics and what no i will just link them here.
i also agree that this is a perfect example of what the BSN should be used for.

This guide is perfect !

But i have question about weapons...

I can use for my Kroguard Claymore ? Or is worthless to solo Gold and better Katana ?

Not at all what I expected when I clicked on the link. Never have I see a post on the BSN with footnotes before.

I wanted to give a full version, but there're details that aren't needed, so I made the footnotes part to not confuse anyone.

This isn't a Kroguard/noob bashing thread. It's supposed to be quite the opposite.

Just to clarify, I wasn't making fun of you, was genuinely shocked when I saw the post.  You obviously put a lot of thought and work into it.  Nice job.

I would choose Piranha or Reegar over Claymore on every day.Why Katana?

Great topic, probably one of the best guides over the forums. People saying "TL;DR" or "too many words for Kroguard" are probably experienced with the game and the character ; I believe the guide to be fairly understandable for noobs. Thanks a bunch for this topic anyway.

A few things :
  • about the build : the "Shotguns" evo on rank 6 of Battlemaster is only needed if you choose a heavy shotgun (e.g. Piranha). For shotguns like Katana, Eviscerator or Scimitar, you are already at 200% CD. So you're better off going for the other evo which is a nice, non-negligible +10% weapon damage.
  • there are times where Biotic Charge won't work. The cooldown is OK, you press the right key... but nothing happens. You have to move (sometimes quite a distance) for the power to work again. I have yet to find out where/when this happens but so far my money is on maps' certain locations and when facing enemies near a wall or obstruction (e.g. on Reactor, on or down the slope from the LZ leading to the core room ; on Hydra, on the slope near the LZ ; on White, at the complete opposite of the LZ). But that's just a guess. Anyway, just move (run maybe) or change the focus to another enemy and try again. Problem is, this can make the difference between life and death and dying while experiencing this bug is very frustrating.
  • when soloing on Gold, be careful to small maps (e.g. Glacier, White) as the objective waves will be very difficult and you might encounter big groups of enemies. You will have a difficult time kiting enemies or evading.

Try getting a 200% CD with a Reegar or Claymore (or even Piranha if you have it at level < V).
Also, since the build is melee-oriented, you don't rely as much on your shotgun as your melee.

Your phantom information is completely erroneous. Not only does Staggering NOT reset the sync, the KV's charge is slow enough that he can be synced in mid charge by a pre-primed Phantom as the host . If the Phantom makes an ATTEMPT to melee any character, a retargeted KV can be auto synced, regardless of whether or not the melee hit, animated or was successful. This is even more likely to occur off host.

Krogan Beware.

This has come at the perfect time for me , I unlocked the Kroguard ages ago but never used it. I always play Human soldier specced with shotgun and adrenalin rush. did dabble with GI and AA but once I promoted them in the previous weekender I couldn't be bothered with them.

picked up the Kroguard and I'm having so much fun, reminds me of a night out in Glasgow playing as him.

Thank you very much for this, I really appreciate the detail you've gone into as I'm a perpetual bronze player and any info I've picked up has been from these forums but never fully explained. Here's to Silver and only 2 games before I can get a spectre pack rather than 4!

I think this happened  yesterday to me,´cos Phantom tried to melee my teammate and then I charged -> puff,Sync kill.

I completely agree with what Ollie wrote.

This is a very good and detailed starter guide for the gold solo virgins.

Thanks for the support guys.

As for those who're suggesting a weapons-based build, I did note and do believe the weapons-based builds are actually more effective (Reegar X, Piranha X, even GPS X or Claymore X), but they're more difficult for novices for two reasons:

1. They require high-level weaponry/gear/equipment/mods that some players may not have (I know I don't have a Reegar or Piranha X, or Shield Booster V, etc.).
2. They require more skill, game awareness, and are in general more unforgiving of mistakes compared to the melee/charge build.

However, the payoff is obvious. Weapon-based builds, with the right weapons, deal more damage and are Platinum-viable, whereas this melee build is good up to and including Gold. If you've got the weapons and feel you've got the experience, then by all means use the weapons build.

I do think the melee build is more fun, though. Feels more visceral.

Also as for pistols/etc. having lower weight, I admit that's something I think I overlooked. I actually normally use a Wraith, so the shotgun reduction was already there, and I assumed that the Katana would be even MORE light than usual. However, if there's a limit on minimum cooldown time (which there apparently is according to Narida's build calculator) then a pistol may be a better choice - you guys are right (then you'd pick the weapon damage on the battlemaster). I suppose the only upside for the shotguns are that they're super easy to hip-fire aim up-close.

Brilliant post! Clear, well organized, beautifully understandable...the only thing I'd change would be to get in the wayback machine and have it published beore this past weekend because I had to learn most of this the hard way while playing a kroguard for the first time for the last operation. Also great explanations of the shield gate, synch kills, and even etiquette. I view this as a great contribution and big props to the OP for doing it!

Also, shotguns deal much more damage at close range and are therefore an obvious choice for melee build. Pistols will never do as much damage as shotguns in close quarters.

That... is way longer of a guide than anyone needs to faceroll gold on a Kroguard.

TLDR version: Spam charge and you won't die.

Well thanks for making me feel worthless.

What you write is not necessarily true. Not everyone is as good as you are, and this is comprehensive - people should just read what's needed. Just because Gold is easy for you doesn't mean it's that easy for others.

It has nothing to do with skill. As long as you follow the one caveat which should be common knowledge to everyone (don't charge a glowy banshee) all you have to do is spam Y and you won't die. You can tank entire waves of Geth by yourself and never lose health. Cerberus are just as easy since the charge staggers Phantoms most of the time, and Atlases if they're not staggered will always try to melee you, which slowly backing away defeats. The only real danger you face is against Reapers if too many things are shooting you at once, but that's what cover is for. Otherwise you can literally tank everything out in the open without worrying about anything.

It is literally the easiest class in the game to play, requiring almost no thought or skill. If people here can't beat gold on the class that trivializes it to a point of hilarity, then there are bigger issues there than needing a guide.

Sorry it took me some time to reply to this, but I've underlined the parts of your post that I view to be a general problem on BSN - people assuming things like "Gold" and/or "Kroguard" are easy and whatnot for everyone and looking down on those who try hard but still find such things difficult. Feel free to say it's all easy for you, but claiming that such people are somehow stupid to the point of hilarity crosses a line that just makes you look arrogant and ostentatious.

Not everyone knows what you wrote, and those that know about it may not know how to do it or how to do it well. When I first started playing ME multiplayer, I'd get downed like every round in a Bronze match. When I first played Kroguard, I still died during a Bronze match. The kind of knowledge you refer to comes with experience, but not everyone may put in that experience for a variety of reasons (for example, learning curve too hard, getting bored, etc.).

Great job on the guide and videos. Even though the weapon is obviously not the focus, it was still fun to see the katana used on a gold solo run.

Lol yeah that was one of the main points - of course a Reegar X with AP mods would melt enemies like butter, but players who don't have that don't necessarily need that stuff to do well.

Depending on response (here and Youtube) I may look at Cerberus and Reaper (shudder) solos.

Just finished a Reaper solo with the same build (Katana X w/melee+accuracy mods, Juggernaut Shield II, and no other equipment/ammo/mods/etc.). Exploited kiting and the synch kill slope stuff to maximum effect. Based on my super slow internet connection, it will take a couple of days to upload at the minimum (72 minutes long).

Will bump with link when it's uploaded though.

The problem is that I tried to take the videos and put them into one longer movie but Windows Movie Maker for some reason says my RAM is too low to keep it in HD quality and make it into a longer movie/edit it. I may just have to upload it in 15 parts or something.
