I reckon KOTOR deserves a spot in the top of the list alongside Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1/2 and Neverwinter Nights 2. Preferably in that order.

New Vegas is at #89? Wow. Who wants to bet Skyrim or Fallout 3 will be in the top 20/10 spot?
While New Vegas was a great game, cool characters, interesting weapon mods, ammo manufacturing and multiple ammo types(Dragon's Breath and EMP 12 Gauge.

Another else thinking they shouldn't even list JRPGs and wester RPGs on the same list? They are very different genres to me.

While New Vegas was a great game, cool characters, interesting weapon mods, ammo manufacturing and multiple ammo types(Dragon's Breath and EMP 12 Gauge.), among many other awesome features, it was the buggiest game I've ever played. I had to save before every transition, and do my best to have the least number of saves possible to help speed things up. Places like Camp McCarren took for-****in'-ever to load, my gun kept going above my head when I crouched, and important people for quests would frequently vanish, only to turn up dead in crazy-ass places like Black Mountain. I wanted to have four playthroughs, but I could only stomach two. I'm guessing that's why it doesn't place as high as most would think.
If that was the case, then Fallout: 3 and Skyrim should be listed at the same ranking as New Vegas. Skyrim and Fallout: 3 was even buggier than New Vegas and would crash my system every 20 minutes. Oblivion is probably the least buggiest Bethesda game I've played, but it was still pretty damn buggy.

Don't Crusty started on sports game and how RPGs can learn from them.
But it's true. Nowadays, sports games are better RPGs than RPGs.
Mass Effect 3 wishes it was half the RPG that NBA 2K13 is going to be.

I would say likewise for Fallout 3. And the DLCs were also buggy for that too.

Torment
Ultima IV
Ultima VII
Fallout or Fallout 2
And of course Baldur's Gate, which it won't, because they'll rank BG2 and think that covers it.

I wasn't against you saying that I just remember reading one of your tl;dr posts about it. It was enough to change my mind and frankly made me kind of sad.

If you want to make some abstract argument that they're not "true" RPGs, knock yourself out - just be aware that you look like a fool when you do it.

My point is that they really are different genres and it isn't uncommon to find people who enjoy one but not the other. But then again even "western RPGs" is not all that well-defined, and we're already hearing people complain that Diablo III doesn't belong.
People always argue about these lists and for good reason. I suppose it was never meant to make any sense but merely to generate some traffic.

Yes, I think that's a great assessment of this list.
