Not that I'd ever consider taking IGN seriously (especially when Allers' mug keeps turning up in the ads on the side of the page there), but I hope to goodness they don't take us for idiots and try to put ME3 in the top ten or anything. Hell, if they don't put the ME series in the order of 1>2>3, then their way of evaluating RPGs is suspect (not a comment on which is the better game, simply a comment on which is more of an RPG and therefore a 'better' RPG).

I reckon KOTOR deserves a spot in the top of the list alongside Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1/2 and Neverwinter Nights 2. Preferably in that order.

Can't wait to see Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 ahead of Fallout: New Vegas.

New Vegas is at #89? Wow. Who wants to bet Skyrim or Fallout 3 will be in the top 20/10 spot?

I knew it would be a joke before I clicked on the link as IGN generally are, but FF9 and Vagrant Story at 88 and 94? Seriously?

While New Vegas was a great game, cool characters, interesting weapon mods, ammo manufacturing and multiple ammo types(Dragon's Breath and EMP 12 Gauge. :o), among many other awesome features, it was the buggiest game I've ever played. I had to save before every transition, and do my best to have the least number of saves possible to help speed things up. Places like Camp McCarren took for-****in'-ever to load, my gun kept going above my head when I crouched, and important people for quests would frequently vanish, only to turn up dead in crazy-ass places like Black Mountain. I wanted to have four playthroughs, but I could only stomach two. I'm guessing that's why it doesn't place as high as most would think.

Yep, another joke list. Diablo III being so close to New Vegas on the list just shows me I am not going to agree with the rest of the list either.

Another else thinking they shouldn't even list JRPGs and wester RPGs on the same list? They are very different genres to me.

If that was the case, then Fallout: 3 and Skyrim should be listed at the same ranking as New Vegas. Skyrim and Fallout: 3 was even buggier than New Vegas and would crash my system every 20 minutes. Oblivion is probably the least buggiest Bethesda game I've played, but it was still pretty damn buggy.

Don't Crusty started on sports game and how RPGs can learn from them.

But it's true. Nowadays, sports games are better RPGs than RPGs.

Mass Effect 3 wishes it was half the RPG that NBA 2K13 is going to be.

Someone else understands.:D

I would say likewise for Fallout 3. And the DLCs were also buggy for that too.

I would argue that New Vegas's Old World Blues expansion had more interesting dialogue and story content than all of vanilla Fallout 3 combined.

The top 20 needs to include:

Torment
Ultima IV
Ultima VII
Fallout or Fallout 2

And of course Baldur's Gate, which it won't, because they'll rank BG2 and think that covers it.

Clearly this isn't a top list as much as some sort of a thinly veiled study on mashocism. I'm pretty sure it takes some pretty serious desire of self hurt to browse through layout as ****ing ****ty as that. Im supposed to click 100 times in order to be through that list?Yeah FU.

I wasn't against you saying that I just remember reading one of your tl;dr posts about it. It was enough to change my mind and frankly made me kind of sad.

It's not really true, but it is an amusing jab at an all too comfortable RPG industry churning out increasingly soulless and streamlined products.

Can't say I have played any of the 90-100 nominees. And as Diablo 3 is included, I doubt I will agree much with the remaining titles either.

Contrary to what some people on this website appear to believe, "JRPGs" are not just weirdo niche games that only Japs and weeaboos play - a lot of them are renowned worldwide by players, developers, and critics alike - and quite a few of them often make the rounds on not just "greatest RPGs ever" lists, but "greatest games ever" lists as well.

If you want to make some abstract argument that they're not "true" RPGs, knock yourself out - just be aware that you look like a fool when you do it.

Thanks for the strawman argument I guess!

My point is that they really are different genres and it isn't uncommon to find people who enjoy one but not the other. But then again even "western RPGs" is not all that well-defined, and we're already hearing people complain that Diablo III doesn't belong.

People always argue about these lists and for good reason. I suppose it was never meant to make any sense but merely to generate some traffic.

Yes, I think that's a great assessment of this list.
