Fair point.

But having a 100% brain dead weapon is just....... bleh IMO.

To each his own.

It's no more a brain dead weapon than the Claymore or the Reegar.

If you think it's a brain dead weapon then YOU'RE brain dead.

If you miss with a claymore you get punished.
If you miss with the Reegar you are slowed down whilst doing zero damage to the enemy.
If you miss the Piranha you still have 7 more shots to go along with a pretty high ROF for a shotgun.

Also that last comment was unnecessary.

It needs a weight increase but that is it... only really OP on GI and maybe Destroyer, but it is hard to balance that because of the accuracy bonuses of those classes so. I would rather have it be OP on weapon classes than complete crap on other classes.

So.....you dont want it to be crap on other classes.....and say it needs a weight increase when the offending classes dont care how heavy their weapon is.

It would not be crap on those classes, effectiveness is not affected only weight. It weighs so little for how good it is (I use it alot I know how good it is).

I am not demanding a nerf, for the OP asked for opinions and I stated mine. No need to try to fight with me about it.

Weight will take away one more option from characters who depend on a fast recharge speed, and that's not where the problem lies. They should just make it so shotguns are not affected by a character's accuracy bonuses IMO.

But that would hurt other shotguns that don't need to receive that penalty.

If they could make it so that the Piranha alone only received half of the accuracy bonuses from those classes (or none), but I don't think that's possible. Or... well, does the Reegar get any sort of accuracy bonuses when used on those classes?

Honestly though, the rollback of the buff it got right after being released was enough for me to say the Piranha isn't an issue anymore, at least not something that needs to be a priority. Yes, it's still OP on a few setups, but it's not the "I win" button the old Krysae was, and there's no need to hurt the other classes when they use the Piranha.

Well, most of the others are ok with just a Smart Choke.  The Claymore is plenty accurate on a HS, which doesn't have any accuracy-boosting powers.  The Pirahna is really the only one that needs both that and accuracy bonuses from powers.

However, rather than making shotguns not benefit from character's accuracy bonuses at all, I think they need to put a cap on the maximum accuracy bonus.  That way, if you use a Claymore on a Geth or the Destroyer, their accuracy boost would let you get away without the Smart Choke, but you couldn't stack both those bonuses and turn shotguns into sniper rifles.

Weapon synergy classes make it awesome (surprise surprise) but name a weapon that won't be awesome in the right hands on a GI or Destroyer.

This is also very true.

Hurricane on a Turian Soldier is ridiculous, as are many other weapons. Honestly, I can accept the weapon based classes making the Piranha ridiculously awesome for the sake of keeping it a good option for other classes.

Indeed. And unless BioWare can make it so a, for example, Hunter Mode nerf only affects the GI and NOT the Gethgineer it will have to remain that way.

Continuing to use the GI as an example, nerfing Tac. Cloak would make the other Infiltrators (who are perfectly fine right now IMO) weaker, Proxy would hurt the already injured Turian Soldier and as mentioned above, HM would hit the GE.

If you can get RCing down, I prefer the Claymore. Once you get the hang of it, it's beastly, even at range. Unlike the Piranha, I don't feel like I'm relying on yet another RNG to decide how much of the shot actually deals damage.

I think the Piranha is a great boss-killer, moreso in closed-quarters, but stuff with smaller hitboxes take longer. After the last nerf, I don't think that you can unambiguously claim that it's superior to other options. The horrible accuracy just makes it a bit of a pain to use on classes without some accuracy boosting skill.

If you hit with a claymore you 1 hit things (often several trooper level enemies if you have a brain and line them up). Can't say the same for the piranha.

If you miss with the Reegar? LOL!!!!!!! How do you miss with a weapon that only works at point blank? And it has 22 'bullets' and the highest RoF in the game. There is almost no penalty and it's one of the easiest weapons in the game to use.

If you miss with the piranha you still have 7 more shots yes but so what? You're still missing. Your argument is ridiculous.

True. Should diminish the other shotties' base spread by X to compensate.

AFAIK that isn't possible, yeah. As for the Reegar... that weapon is complicated. To say the least. With that said, I believe it is not affected by any kind of accuracy bonus.

You should be able to change spread, but I believe that's patch territory.

The Reegar is an oddity. It might be possible that it does benefit from accuracy. It is considered a beam weapon like the PPR, but we've also shown that the beam uses pellets, and that some pellets in a shot can miss. It's a possibility that accuracy would tighten the beam's pellet spread.

I just think that the Piranha suffers in it's weight range. For a little more weight you could take the Wraith and get headshots.

Guess I was wrong.

Dont forget to nerf the Reegar, claymore, harriar, talon, indra while we're at it. Then go pick up Borderlands 2.

its good on class that has accuracy and damage buff, mediocre on other, I would prefer Reegar

This.

On the Turian Soldier, Destroyer & both Geth characters the ****** poor accuracy is drastically increased.  On the rest of the classes, even with Smart Choke, you have to be within 5-8 feet to a get a full 8 pellet shot on a human sized target.  Sorry, but that's horrible.  Give me a Wraith, Claymore, GPS or Graal so I can shoot from 20-50 feet if need be.  If I'm going to limit myself to extreme close range, I'm taking the Reegar.

With that said, it would be a damned shame if BioWare again nerfed a weapon due to its effectiveness on a couple classes.  If it's only OP on a Geth Infiltrator, shouldn't that be obvious that the weapon isn't the problem?

the thing is, do you really need all 8 pellets to hit?
I could probably hit 4-5 at 10-15 feet and still do pretty darned good damage.

Well sure you can do pretty darned good damage. But at that range I only have to fire one time with Wraith.  Anyway, a Piranha nerf would hurt all the characters except the Geth Infiltrator & Destroyer.  So, as I said, the problem isn't the gun.......... its the powers that give both accuracy & damage buffs.  It isn't OP with Marksman because that only gives accuracy, not accuracy plus 40% to 80% damage.

If anything is going to get nerfed, it should be the whole Tactical Cloak + Power use + heavy gun= 3 second CDT.  If you have This GI build then the CDT of Tac Cloak should actually be 18.17 seconds rather than just 3 seconds because you Cloaked, Proxy Mine then shoot all within .5 seconds.  Then people would have to actually make choices on their builds, not just throw on the most powerful guns and go blasting.

Im not arguing with you.

As for the Reegar ok fine you win.
And for the Claymore, that's if you hit.

Getting headshots with the piranha isn't all that hard. While the pellet spread is ginormous, it's really predictable.

What I defined as impossible was a comment of Zjarcal - "

About the Reegar, that much is true... bleh. How I wish BioWare just informed us how these weapons (mostly the Reegar and the Typhoon) work this kind of discussion would have a faster and easier conclusion. :?

OP, try using a piranha on a class that doesn't have weapon synergies, then try using a claymore and tell me you still think the piranha is OP.

Claymore = headshot enemies from long range with no accuracy bonuses (except smart choke), STILL one hitting things.

Piranha = takes several shots at point blank range to kill enemies, a lot more at medium range and at long range you might as well not bother.

Ah, that's definately patch territory, but I imagine it could be done, it's just something I don't think they ever would do.

It would be nice to get clarification on exactly how the Reegar/Typhoon work.

classes that don't have weapon synergys usually require a 150% + cooldowns. Claymore doesn't really fit into that. Piranha fits into that pretty swell, and basically has no down sides. And so what the Piranha takes several shots up close? The first shot staggers them usually, allowing for quite a few more shots to follow uninterrupted.
I never said the Piranha was Overpowered, just slightly too good for what it is right now.

Capping accuracy bonuses at X% is not that bad an idea at all, I like it. Whether it's possible on a weekly balance change though, who knows.

The Piranha is fantastic. It's probably THE second best shotgun in the game, seconded only to the Wraith. I overall prefer the Piranha, but Wraith still takes dominance, because if it's used right, it's deadly.

I've only used it on the slayer, shadow, demo, and GE. I still prefer talon for slayer and shadow, claymore for the demo, and any assault rifle for the GE. I find the piranha underwhelming, but I may be using it wrong.

That is not true to all characters that do not possess "weapon synergies" (unless I'm misinterpreting the term). For example, the FQE can get away with using a Claymore well enough if you take the Damage & Capacity evolution in her passive.

I'd also take a Claymore over anything else on the Drellguard. Works well on the Drell Adept too.

I guess. Point taken. But how many caster classes can wield a claymore without taking a pretty big hit to their cooldowns, something that they rely on heavily.

Drells.... somehow their leather trenches give them incredible carrying capacity.
