What other companies should we be watching to give us a proper alternative to DA:2?

DA:O is a classic game but after the poor DA:2, an unfinished ME3 and general downturn in Bioware's quality since EA arrived on the scene I was just wondering if some of you more hardcore gamers could point me in the direction of any other games or game companies to look out for to get the fix I need since DA:O?

And on that note to me Bethesda are walking the same downwards path as Bioware, so not them

Cheers.

Capcom? Dragon's Dogma is freaking epic. And 2K I love their stuff.

Obsidian: Buggy games, but definitely worth keeping an eye on. Just about to announce a new game.

CDProjekt: Makers of The Witcher series, are making Cyberpunk(an RPG based on a pnp game of the same name)

Inxile: Wasteland 2 developers(Post apocalyptic RPG)

Double Bear: Dead State ( A RPG set during the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse)

Iron Tower Studios : Age of Decadence (turn-based role-playing game)

As far as developers go, I'm a big fan of Stardock, they make strategy games however.
I agree with the second poster about Dragons Dogma as well, despite it's "flaws" it's the RPG (other than RIft) I've enjoyed the most this year.  I think Angry Joe does a fair review of it.  angryjoeshow.com/2012/05/dragons-dogma-angry-review/

Seconded.  Also the guys behind GOG.com, which include lots of wonderful older CRPGs.  Very worth checking out.

If you're willing to give MMOs a shot, Guild Wars 2 is worth a try.

Obsidian. IMO(despite buggy games) they have consistently beaten Bioware at their own thing(s).

Pretty much everything else that Malsumis listed.

Obsidian, CDPRojekt, and Bethesda are the only high-budget non-indies, non-kickstarters that still exist. Black Isle just resurfaced, but in name only and who knows what the future holds for them.

Baldur`s Gate(enhancd edition)
CDproject: Witcher 1 and 2, They also have a game called "CYBERPUNK" in the works
Obsidian: Project X (they havent announced the name of the game yet), Fallout:NV,
Alpha Protocol(though its really buggy)
Dragons Dogma
XCOM:Enemy Unknown(will be coming out soon)

you can also try Kingdoms of Amalur though there is a chance you may not like it....look for reviews and gameplay vids on youtube and then decide i guess

Capcom isn't the best but I've heard great things about Dragons Dogma.
Obsidion/CDprojekt are probably your best bets, particularly CDprojekt.

Obsidian and CDProjekt. Obsidian sometimes give us awesome RPGs. CDProject managed to topple BioWare from RPG Throne and I expect them to become a major RPG makers in the near future as they know how to enchance and write a story. But they suffer hard from glitchy engines and should they eliminate this flaw they will dominate the RPG market.

If you want a game that's like DA:O there really aren't many current options. Though there are plenty of good games with action combat and predefined protagonists.

This isn't a good sign when people start asking for recommendations to other rpgs, especially on the once considered king of rpgs (BioWare's) forums. If that's not humiliating, then I'm not sure what is.

I would massively recommend The Witcher 2, that game is incredible. I know a lot of people use it just to go "hey Bioware, this game is awesome, DA2 sucks!", but it genuinely is a fantastic game.

"the banner saga" by stoic:
http://stoicstudio.com/
A turnbased, 2d-animated post-apocalyptic game with vikings.

Not out yet, but the studio consists of ex-bioware employees. No, it won't have any romance options as far as I know, but otherwise it looks pretty good.

Not really DA2 related.

End of line.
