Sounds like you agree with me.

no i don't since you see e.a. as positve for making alot of sub par games, mostly through the companies they own **cough**bioware**cough** they have the same sports games every year with little inavation like madden which has no competition since they have an eclusive deal with the N.F.L. (which is just disturbing). And valve is good yea there a business too but not in the way e.a. is, and thanks to steam i didn't have to go and run around looking for the games i wanted, and its not like i have to make a steam account to play bf3 on my xbox like e.a.'s origin trust me if origin didn't have exclusives like bf3 it would collapse.

I can't really answer now, as I have to finish an O-chem lab report and then prep for the next lab--but I'll try to get on in about 9 hours.

Is Ubisoft publically owned?

I despise their DRM practices, but they completely scrapped Splinter Cell Conviction and changed the game.

Valve's success is partially due to EA doing this with them, and I don't think Gabe needed to make the EA vs Valve debate any worse.

EA's been sniping at Valve for some time now. Honestly, I'd rather have these industry vets say what they think, on both sides really. Every time an EA rep opens his mouth, I find it amusing how disconnected they are from their fanbase. At least when Gabe or Marcin Iwinski talk, its mostly free of spin.

Yeah, EA's no better.  Let's not forget that they've released statements about how Steam Sales destroy the value of Intelectual Properties.

As a long time Steam user (and avid Steam fan to boot), it's important to note that Steam became a required service for very popular Valve games like Counterstrike and Half-Life 2.

In fact, I find it interesting that many of the same complaints being levied against Origin now were the same complaints being levied against Steam in its heyday. It had the nickname "Steaming pile of crap" back in the day.

Heck, I remember having a nightmare of a time trying to validate Half-Life 2 on Day One because the servers were just getting absolutely smashed, and this was with the boxed copies.

In spite of all these things, though, I still love the Steam service and in general hold Valve in exceptionally high regard.

Actually,  the complaints about Origin are very different.

-The EULA that gave them the right to scan everything on your drive,  everything you connected to the computer,  and every website you go to,  and then return it to EA.
-Complete with an idenitifier for your computer,  making you easily trackable.
-Online Passes that expire.
-Then there's the youtube videos indicating that even after the EULA was changed,  Origin scanned your computer anyways,  and did so even before you accepted the agreement.
-EA's tendency to end support of games.

Honestly,  I have to wonder if EA's actually understanding why people refuse to use Origin.  The issues are very different from Steam,  and very specifically related to EA's actions.

Further,  after ME3 and the significant level of misrepresentation,  I personally don't trust EA not to flip a switch and have it uploading my tax returns one day on a whim.

This is not about DRM,  it's all about EA's integrity,  reputation,  and what it seemed was it's original intentions.  Some of us know enough about software coding to realize that it could be dormant code waiting for the server to broadcast a "Report" command that would trigger every install to scan it's system and return a catalogue of all files.

Origin does not scan your computer, those videos online are rather outdated and have been discussed to death and even EA admitted to it being an error.  I used the same program they used in those videos to track Origin on my PC and it never left the Origin directory structure, I even compared it to Steam and it was less intrusive in comparison since Steam went in Windows directories and other unrelated stuff (I do have pictorial evidence).

the newest builds of Origin now allow you to opt out of most if not all data collection which shows that the developers are listening to the users and making changes to accomodate.

 Alright, Valandil, from this

http://en.wikipedia....onic_Arts_games

EA games I like:

007: Everything or Nothing
Command & Conquer: Generals/Zero Hour
Darkspore I have not played but looks extremely interesting, as it's based off of the creation idea of Spore. I like "god" games.
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age ][
Freedom Fighters
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Mirror's Edge--haven't played because I never found a copy on PC but I very very much like the idea of a parkour game.
Need For Speed: Carbon
Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit
Need For Speed: Most Wanted
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed
Need For Speed: The Run--do not have because i couldn't find a hard copy for PC anywhere, though I do plan to get it eventually.
Need For Speed: Undercover
Need For Speed: Underground - another game I don't have--it came out during a period of time where I wasn't playing games at all, so I missed it.
The Orange Box - Portal, anyway.
The Sabateur - a little mediocre, but overall didn't seem too bad. I like open wolrd games with a vehicle focus very much.
Sid Meier's SimGolf - oh yeah. That game was AWESOME. I wish I still had it. probably do, somewhere.
Sim City 4: Deluxe Edition. I've probably put more hours into this game that any other--be it DA:O, or Skyrim, or Oblivion.
SimCopter - the absolute worst 3D graphics for a game I've EVER seen, yet I spent hours putting out fires, saving people, and upgrading my helicopter.
The Sims 3
Spore - again, never played, but I like the idea of this game very, very, very much. I really need to get my hands on this.

I believe you. But I'm rather poor so my game purchases are few and far between...I've pretty much given up hope on finding this for PC, though. i'm stuck with Xbox.

I do plan to get it.

My disinterest in Origin stems not from the bugginess, but the fact that you'll never be able to maintain a true offline mode after a purchase, as you can in steam. Once you're downloaded a game completely online, you can switch the offline and(assuming you don't reformat the entire hard drive), it's yours for as long as you like. With origin, if the internet has issues or whatnot, it's game over. I can certainly see why steam recieved the complaints early on, though.

May I suggest you correct this at your earliest convenience as you are missing out on a great game(Mirror's Edge).

Note that most of these games were created by companies owned by EA, not EA themselves. Some of these companies don't even exist anymore.

"Created by companies owned by EA" = "created by EA."

EA owns them. EA is not a developer, so they don't "create" ANY games.

And regardless of whether they still exist or not, they're still games that I like a lot that happen to be EA games.

I think he's talking about some specific thing with purchased-through-Origin games. if not, then yeah, Offline mode works just like Steam's, except that you have to log in every time even though you're offline.

I've had issues with all three of the major clients regarding offline/online mode. So on that note I don't prefer Steam over GFL or Origin. If anything, Steam's client is more unreliable/quirky. Only GoG - hallowed be their site - has completely hassle free service.

Many games of that list are truly entertaining and some of them are amazing. Maker knows how much I love Dragon Age: Origins.
Not what I'd call "deep" (I would say, maybe, Deus Ex: HR or TW2 are deep, NFS or Spore? hardly), but really good games nevertheless. In case you meant something different, then I apologize for the confusion.
By the way, you don't like the Dead Space games? Or Dante's Inferno? Those are other EA games I really love.
Also, Alice: Madness Returns and Brutal Legend.
Spore really called my attention, but it got old pretty fast for me. I made some little critters and after making them dance for a while I deleted the game from my hard drive.
Thanks for sharing your opinion with me =]

I wasn't specific enough. It has an offline mode, if you've already logged on. If you your connection fails before logging on, you have no access to Origin. I haven't logged on my steam account for quite some time, but can still access my game library at any time.

I would say Spore is very deep simply because of what it is: a creation program. Like SimCity, or the Sims, the possibilities are nearly infinite, so it's very deep.

I don't like Horror, or shooters.

And generally I play very very few games, so there are likely many games I would love that I haven't played.

Logged on ever, Dom.

It doesn't kick you out if your last time you were online and now you're not. It loads the offline mode.

While I, on the other hand, have actually had problems with Steam doing that--I have to try to make sure I re-login in offline mode while connected, so I'll be able to later.
