Right, but who would you rather play with on a Gold match (not FBW) N7 2300 or a N7 120? (first impulse) Same weapons, mods etc. I just don’t think the N7 point system tells the real skill story. Like I mentioned above a while ago I used to get kicked out of Gold matches because my N7 was in the 150’s because I never promoted but I did have plenty of experience.

I do wish they had a better point system, perhaps based on successfully finished missions or something.

To some the N7 rank does carry weight while to others it does not. You have to decide for yourself as to what it means to you and no one here can make that choice for you.

To me a low N7 rank ( below 120) does raise a red flag and would be cause enough to look at the players' gear and weapon levels. Provided their weapon and gear levels are good enough to carry them through without too much trouble in a gold match I am cool. However, if a player comes into one of my gold matches with a low character, weapons, gear, and N7 level, I will politely tell them to they will have to sit this one out soldier.

Sliver matches I am not that absolute about however, I still do look over their levels if they have a low N7 and will plan accordingly if they are too low. I rarely player without a battle buddy so I just make sure that the lower level player is watched more carefully.

The important thing here is most player DO NOT kick for low rank alone rather, a reason to look at you a little more closely. If you are a N7 100 but have level X weapons, V gear, level 20 character, and a mic! I would let you play on a platinum run.

you could be dealing with a genius player who figured out all about spawn control and other game mechanics after playing each map only once - so N7 13 ( i think ) - and will outscore your N74850 using a Shuriken with no gear and no equipment... on Reapers Platinum on Reactor.

not really because i have been playing since day 1 and quit promoting after I beat the game. I stayed at N7 200 forever. I am now only an N7 300+ because of the promote weekend a couple weeks ago. (back when we had the other two weekends I was working and did not get to play in them).

to me all it means if you are higher is that you hit the x button a lot more than i did. (I have played with a couple of guys that were N7 15000 + and they were not that great IMHO and I have played with quite a few N7 120's that could wipe the floor with just about anyone.)

Indeed.

at most its a general ranking system for how long you have played and how good you should be
i did a match with 3 others whose n7 lvls were way above me like 1000-2000 above and i out shot them all(got promptly kicked when the match was over too ****s)

Higher N7 vs low N7

Possible better / end game gear.
Messed around with more classes / play styles
More knowledge of in game mechanics
Possibly a more reliable player

Notice how I said possibly since you can never know but in pugs people judge what they see.

I agree with this, I'm only N7 1590 and I'm still learning characters and how subtile and specific power use can be. And I'm especially wise in the way of loadouts and what set up can do what to whom. N7 200 doesnt mean you're bad, it just suggests, "how good can you reasonably be"?

What everyone said so far is true. Though the N7 Rank may not reflect someone's skill level, it does reflect the amount of experience they might have based on the amount of time they've invested in the game. I've noticed that lower N7's don't know how to "run" and they mostly "jog" in game. You can also tell that they're lost because they're not as familiar with the maps as those who have more experience (generally not knowing how to get to a target during the "Target Elimination" mission). Some will go on their mics and ask you where the Ammo boxes are, and some will revive you when there's a Phantom or Banshee standing close to you.

To answer your question; ever since the missile glitching has started I've relied mostly on friends to play with online. Once in a while (like last night) I'd pick a few PUG's on Silver since my characters were all Levels 1-5. Sadly I feel that the onus is on the person with a highest N7 and Kit Level. If everyone got executed and you're the last one standing and I see you doing stupid things that gets you killed ... well ... everyone in that lobby during Spectator Mode now knows you're ... well ... an idiot who can't live up to his or her "Level".

It doesn't mean much...I play with a guy who has an N7 400 (Layer1331) who is much better than high N7 players I've played with and I've played with high N7 players who didn't even understand basic fundamentals of the game so...No it doesn't mean anything

This would be a case of wishful thinking OR BS.

Wait sorry, I probably should know this but what is a PUG? Is it a random player?

PuG, Pick up game or Pick up Group. Means you are playing with randoms.

And N7 means something. N7 1 means you are brand new. N7 1000 means you've played a lot. Doesn't mean you'll be good or bad, but it means something. I can infer certain things from looking at weapon ranks and N7 ranks of a player, we all can.

I appreciate the clarification on PUG and I definitely see your point with what you are saying.

It never did best way to judge someone's skill is by what character they choose which weapons they chose for that particular character and the gear and equipment they pick if any.

N7 > 1000 Doesn't necisarily mean you have played a long time...I point you to the Level farming done in WoW where you pay someone in India, China, (insert 3rd world country/young cousin) to play your charachter for you until you are a cretian level and then you play. Happens all the time in WoW.

Did I really need to account for any possible extenuating circumstances?  I stand by what I say, you can stand over there where people pay others to level up their ME3 MP account.

is still an indicator, don't judge only based on it, but is still somewhat useful

Exactly.  It's one piece of information that you can use to evaluate a random player.  It's not the be all and end all, but it isn't totally useless either.

i do not care about N7 ranking. i care more about weapon loadouts. i did not promote coz i do not like playing lvl 1 again. reset cards are not hard to get. i don't want to set the appearances of the characters again. i'd rather be a better player by playing higher difficulties, but to each their own. i still have mp friends who are still promoting that are very good players.

Doesn't mean anything, never meant anything, won't ever mean anything. Some of the best players you can find never go over 120. And on the flip side, plenty of high-leveled players are crap. I can't play the game for beans, and I've got over 2000.

How come nobody is talking about all the N7 200 who're trying to melee a prime at the start of a platinum match? I see that WAY more often than I see bad N7 1800's

If you're good and just don't want to promote, and get kicked sometimes and you're pissed about that, just say that. But don't try and feed me that N7 rating doesnt mean anything, its not the gospel but it absolutely does mean something.

Yes they do mean something. You can't totally assume what players are going to be like due to their N7 score but you certainly can generalize and be right more often than wrong.

You are the exception.  Mine is around 800 I think.  If I start a game in a lobby with an N7 30, an N7 120 and an N7 2250.  By fr the most often the guy with the highest N7 is the best player, if for no other reason than they have great gear and the lower N7's though not being terrible players are usually not as effective.  no hard and fast rules but more often than not ability follows N7 if there is a wide enough spread.
