Above 120, it doesn't really mean anything.  Even below, it could be deceptive.  For example one of my friends has zero interest in the infiltrator classes, so has never leveled them to 20, but has been playing since beta.

Deceptive up to a point.  Eventually your friend will gather enough character cards to be N7 120.

It doesn't mean a thing. Most people realize how pointless promoting is now (unless they don't have enough time on their hands to do side missions).

Used to mean you spent many hours playing. Now a week of rocket glitching can get you to 3000.

Honestly I'd like to see an N7 above 120 at least. It doesn't mean anything about player skill but the weekend operations call for promotions on a few occasions. I figure if you play regularly, you at least promoted for the weekend events. Honestly though loadout is more important than N7 ranking. I would rather play with an N7 50 with a good loadout than a N7 6000 using a destroyer with a locust as their only weapon.

So what exactly are the mechanisms for accumulating N7 points. I know that promoting a character gives you +10, but beyond that I'm not sure why I have 970ish N7 with only 27 promotions. Anyone know? This will go a long way in illuminating what a high N7 score signifies.

Every character level you gain adds to your N7. Say you promote your infiltrators. That's +10. Then you level them back up to 20. That's +20. So every promotion in reality adds +30 N7 points.

Ok so my N7 is actually 887 with 27 promotions for 810 points. 887 - 810 = 77 divided by 6 classes = 12.8 + 1 = 13.8. So the average level of my current characters is 13.8, neat.

So yeah it's basically an indicator of how many times you've promoted and that's all.
