EA doesn't really do anything to the companies it gobbles up except guarantee a paycheck.

Most companies think this is a good thing, and for the employees it really is.

But what seems to happen is someone in the Band ... er... studio... decides to use the new found freedom of funding to take things in new, more artistic directions.

Speaks volume about how EA fails, when they have to rely on one game meeting its deadline or else they're screwed.

Right. So the answer is to... let developers take all the time and spend all the money they want?

If they can deliver and have a good track record, yes. Believe it or not, games that take incredible long to develop like Duke Nukem Forever is the exception, not the rule.

A lot of publishers have felt this way. There's a reason why EA's here and they're not, just as there's a reason why Bio had to sell out to EA.

Are you actually defending EA?

Doesn't matter it's still a dude, so the horror that takes over is far worse.

yes but I wouldn't get any more (or be able to replay any games) after that.

It ruins future enjoyment of the ME/BJ universe.

Easy to lay the blame solely at BioWare's feet. Sure they wrote that atrocity they call an ending but it was EA who pushed BioWare to release the game before it was even remotely done. They are as much at fault here as BioWare, like it or not.

What makes you think they write a different ending if they had more money?

Unless the point is just that the EC or something like it would have been included, and that would have been OK.

This. You may have enjoyed it at the time but with that relevelation every good memory about it is instantly shattered and replaced with horror.

I didn't say money. I said time. It's quite different.

In order to actually finish the game the way they wanted, BioWare would've needed until december 2012. EA didn't want to release the game past the 2011 financial year (march '11) and so BioWare was forced to ditch their original ideas and go with something quick. And from what I heard Mac and Casey didn't actually write this ending by themselves, nor are the people at BioWare actually happy with what happened.

The whole 'lots of speculation for everybody' was also to disguise the obvious truth: They didn't WANT to end the series like this and have people headcanon the ending, they HAD to do it this way for lack of time.

classy analogy. But if it took you that long to figure it out then she was doing something right.

As far as ME3 is concerned, sure. I don't see anything wrong with the game that isn't Bio's fault.

As for EA and Bio generally... I'm not sure EA is pushing Bio anyplace they didn't already want to go. Bio never wanted to be a niche developer in the first place.

So the fact of the matter they they developed this game in less than 2 years when it was obvious they needed far more time to make all the cool stuff we wanted, isn't EA's fault?

Remember, whenever a game has an atrocious ending...

...it is the fans' fault.

Bioware was doing something right....right till the end...then I found Biowares private parts (the catylist) and I was not happy.

Nope. Bio's style is and always has been to provide choice without much effort at portraying the consequences during the game (rather than offscreen or after the end), and to make almost all content available to all players, since most players don't replay the games.

Most of the cool stuff people are asking for is stuff that Bio just doesn't do, and has never had much interest in doing. More dev time gives you more of the same, not a re-think of the way Bio allocates their time.

In retrospect, doing a trilogy at all was a mistake, since it reveals the limitations of Bio's style.

In a nutshell:

"We are not responsible for Hudson [and Walters] projectile-vomiting into a CD case. We just gave them the booze, patted them on the back to get the last of it, stamped our logo on it and sent it to print."

Thanks, EA. Glad you cleared that up.
