Hardcore Mode and Easy Mode

All sorts of people play games, and it's not too hard to see that all sorts of people might want to play Dragon Age 3.

And all these people might want differing amounts of challenge and complexity in Dragon Age 3. The problem with building it towards one end of this scale is it makes the other end uninterested. If the game is too complex for some people then they won't want it. If it's too simple (nee, Dragon Age 2) yet another group will be disappointed.

But it's a video game! Video games can have it all, if only the work is put in. So why not have a "Hardcore" mode available? A game setting with no explicit, non diegetic material. As in, no bars to tell you about the "loyalty" of your companions. No face icon tagged responses (if they're even back). Maybe a single save-game allowed? And more, something along the lines of Bioshock Infinite's 1999 mode: http://www.ign.com/a...-mode-announced

Dragon Age 3 could go all out. Allowing such things as single life, hardcore mode on insanity difficulty while others could choose "medium" or "easy" difficulties; which could have auto-equip and and auto-level buttons for you and your party. Instead of being forced to play a game designed for one specific, narrow audience players could just choose their own level of interaction and challenge. Everyone wins! Except the developers who have to put in all that extra work. But heck, the payoff could only be more sales and more fan appreciation as far as I can see.

I think it would be better to put all (or at least some) of these things as individual toggles rather than linking them together as modes. Particularly the simpler ones (hide X slider or Y images should be easy to code, I would think).

Another possible option for the responses is to randomize the order, if you're trying to hide implications behind a choice or "what the game thinks". I remember reading a design document for Wing Commander III or IV that said their responses should be randomized so that players wouldn't associate 'top option' with good or bad, which I suspect might be what some of the icon thing is getting at.

Dragon age awakening was waay to easy,DAO was great,DA2 was also hard at nighmare,not as hard as DAO but sitll hard.I'm always up for making a game for everyone.

So here are my ideas :D

Ultra easy hack'n slash mode,with no inventory or customization whatsoever and not controlling companions at all,

Story mode- with easy combat and somewhat customization,with a little controling of the companions,but this mode would be mostly to experience the story with easy combat.

The RPG mode-Where you need to craft potions,poisions and traps,spend points to you and compaions in stats and abilites,armor customization,inventory managment,heavily cooperating with companions,cross class combos... and preperation

The Hard Mode-Like RPG mode just harder

The Nightmare mode-Ultra hard focusing on extreme preperation and making you annoyed and frustrated becouse of how hard it is and the mode that makes you a DA3 ultra PRO veteran.

The hack'n slash easy/medium/hard combat mode-Ignore the story,skip half of the cutscenes and no choices only focus on the combat.

There you go,you make a game for a wider audience

I don't want a game that ranges from point-click-adventure to Icewind to ARMA II.

I think that Dragon Age needs to have somewhat of an identity and not an identity crisis. For one, it's easier on the devs to tweak the difficulty than to rewrite the mechanics to tolerate wildly varying styles. For two, everyone gets to have the a very similar experience but merely at their level of enjoyment rather than a completely different game.

(After all to experience a completely different game, the logical solution is to play a completely different game.)
