Okay I have successfully found and added a new model to the toolset and have modified the textures I want to use on the model and changed the .mao file to point towards the correct files however this does not change the textues on the imported model to the new ones. Any advice troubleshooting or suggestions is appreciated.

Does the model itself reference the right MAO?

Open the MMH up in either the toolset or the standalone GFF editor (GffEditor.exe). Right click -> Expand All, scroll down the bottom and find the row labelled MMH_MATERIAL_OBJECT and see what the value on the right says. It is the MAO filename (without the .mao portion).
Was this model one you exported from a 3D app yourself, or just a vanilla one that you changed the name of?
