I find his conflicted nature compelling and it offers a great deal of potential for growth and expansion. His story has been left open-ended and, despite the great deal of protest that will undoubtedly follow this post, Sebastian is the character with the greatest opportunity for continuation.
In my opinion, at least.

I can see this as a good option. But I fear that the writers may find its easy to make him either your opposition or support much like Earl Eamon was in DAO. But still XD I would love the opportunity to corrupt him! MwhahaSylvanpyxie wrote...

its not about fan service at all actually. from what i remember, someone said they would bring back at least 1 of the companions of old for the sake of continuation. cause as you could probably tell, you wouldnt know this was Dragon Age(or 2 in that matter) had it not said it in the title.

As much as I love Zevran, Varric, Isabela, and Aveline... i have to agree.... don't bring back the companions for fan service only.... bring them back if it makes sense. I loved seeing Zevran in DA2 but it seemed a bit forced, same for Alistair. >.>
well cameos are probably fan service for the most part, but having them as companions will obviously make sense and why they decide to accompany the protagonist

Btw, does there even exist an argument AGAINST continuity in RPG-games?
Only from writers when the old canon gets in the way of the story they want to tell, I imagine.
As for OP, yes, Shale, Zevran, Varric and Aveline were great characters, but I would rather not see them at all than have them shoe-horned in just for fan service.
Take DA2 for example. Ignoring the fact it was shamelessly retconned so that she definitely survived Origins, Leliana's appearences were handled well. They are clearly doing new and interesting things with her character. And though her appearances were brief, they are clearly developing her. Alistair and Zevran, however, fall squarely into the 'there just because' category.

A new story, new environments and new people. I don't want to reminded of Dragon Age 2 or what once was.
