Claymore not doing damage to phantoms?

I was using level 3 piercing ammo
I had the smart choke on, and I noticed something weird: I would shoot at a phantom, hit, and barely do any damage. When I know that I should have taken a substantial number of health or barrier bars. Because it was a Claymore X and I hit, damn it. I'm sure of that.
But the strangest happened later: I fired at a Phantom from some distance. She was hiding, had full barriers up. My shot took away half her health bar... from under the barrier! The barrier was still full, but her health under it was halved.
Was it lag? A bug? Because it really screwed me and left me helpless when comfronting phantoms.

1. Lag. You shot where you saw a phantom but the real phantom was no longer in that location.
2. Unlucky Claymore shot. Due to how pellets randomly spread and phantom's slender hitbox, you might miss a shot entirely.

If a Phantom is moving she gets 80% DR. No need for cartwheels.
Yes, I am not sure how this works exactely, but when she moves (normal running animation) she takes significantly less damage. She takes the most damage when she is standing or crouching in cover.
Shooting at her while she does her cartwheels is a waste of ammo, you have to wait until she lands. I hope someday someone explains in detail how the damage reduction of the Phantom works. It seems very strange, especially when she is running, I guess it is also dependant on the amount of barrier she has left...

Just watch this. The damage a Phantom takes is "inconsistent" at best, due to what Air Quotes mentioned.
It's the Talon, it has bonus against shields and barriers, with Claymore it's worse.
you have an imposter...

That wasn't the point. I think that in this video you see the DR in action pretty well. Sometimes it takes two shots to kill a Phantom and sometimes he shoots 'em directly in the head at pretty much point blank range and their barriers aren't even fully depleted.

Yeah I know. But again, this was with the Talon. With Claymore you sometimes need 4-5 shots.

speaking of the talon, does it have a no-zoom penalty? i THINK i might have read that here, but i dont know for sure as i dont use the gun often.
No penalties for Talon. Hip fire or aim - you''re good.

Yeah I know. But I wanted to point out that it isn't a Claymore specific "issue".

Tis true. All hitscan shotguns have problems with phantoms. It's just so funny and stupid with the Claymore since it's so powerful.

Hm, I don't know if this is worse with hitscan weapons. I can remember quite some Graal flechettes visibly sticking in a Phantom's head without doing any significant damage. Then again this could have been lag issues.

I think it was a mix of lag, and the damage resistance thing I had no idea about. I guess it's not the same thing to use a Claymore on a soldier and to use it on an infiltrator as well.
I made a thread about it and actually I find the Claymore perform better off-host.

Because the AI cheats in this game? Most weapons dont do so much damage to phantoms when they do their "dodges".
They dodge after being shot, so it doesn't matter. If a Phantom moves at all she gets insane and lulzworthy DR.
