I see the "decline" claim made repeatedly but I haven't seen anyone present evidence. How can you notice a decline? At any given time you have no idea how many people are actually playing. In Silver (and even Gold) I see lots of low N7 ratings with low ranked weapons, which indicates new players.

I'm gunna have to agree with Supa Dupa ParatrooperStan here. I've seen an increase of new players rolling on in, asking questions and the like. What Bio needs to do is come out with a ME MP game all on its own. Think of the possibilities.

Because Origin had a 50% off last week on Mass Effect 3 and N7 Edition/Digital Delux.

€37,99 for teh N7, where i got it got  €74,99.

Two basic reasons and a third possible: random number generator, people using the B**tch Board to whine about how the game is too easy for those who play 16+ hours a day, and possibly the Endings. Shelf life is a given.

Yeah! And why isn't there anyone playing Quake 3 MP anymore??? Probably also because of the nerfs and RNG....

1. No variety in gametypes/enemies.

2. The store/unlock system is lame.

I have noticed the decline in the amount of players in multiplayer and i think it has alot to do with all the nerfing and balance changes that was occurring. People don't mind the balance changes when it just improves the game but when you go and NERF weapons that people love that caused a lot of negative comments and then the reactIon of people not playing anymore.

Now another thing is they need to think outside the box with new content and stay commited and continue to release more DLC packs with some new game modes, maps, weapons, enemies, and characters(like a prothean character or collectors on the enemy side). Anything is possiable and since it is a sc fi lore isn't an issue they can make anything work as long as they want to. If they continue to stay commited then I think multiplayer will be around and successful for a long time even with the release of other games.

Apart from "horde mode" getting old, I'd say it's because of the tedious and lazy design of the networking part, not to mention inter-player communication.

The voice chat does not normalize volume and does not filter noise, there is no text chat even though people demanded it since like about 6 months ago (since the game came out), and most crucially, the game disconnects you randomly for no reason whatsoever, and you lose everything you had collected up to that point. Also, the game has ridiculous loading times that don't make sense, mostly consisting of "Connecting to EA servers", then about 70 seconds of "DLC Checking" since the EC and Earth came out, and loading menus between the multiplayer menuscreens takes at least a minute while it barely even has to LOAD anything.

Long story short, the game is terribly written in some aspects and it truly decreases the game's replay value, not to mention the tediousity of merely grinding like in an endless and storyless MMORPG.

I still play sometimes because the N7 Fury is amazing in terms of gameplay and overall enjoyment, but I just can't comprehend why the loading times are so bad, why there are still numerous game-breaking glitches (Vanguard glitch, anyone?) and why Origin's connection is even necessary when it just signs out in the background for no reason whatsoever.

Nothing new. Every multiplayer game out there eventually loses players. Natural cycle. That said, I still never have to wait more than 20 seconds for a lobby to fill or a match to start.

Pretty much! And we're still at about 75% of the original capacity, going by the operation stats. That's pretty good for six months. Especially given we're at six weeks since the last DLC came out, which tends to create a spike that slope off. Lots of people play for a few weeks, slow down, and then rare up again when a new DLC's out.

The people who think it's the regular balance changes - don't talk rot. Most people don't know about them, and of the people that do, most understand why they're necessary, and for the ones that don't, most of them are buffs anyway. Cos do you know what's more boring than a formulaic game? A formulaic game dominated by a single playstyle. Balances impose choices, and force you to consider multiple options. Buffs increase the number of choices, and nerfs increase the necessity of choices. If we were all still trotting around with superpowered geth infiltrators, our numbers would be a lot lower - and we'd all be talking of the drell adept and the krogan sentinel in the same disparaging tones as the human infiltrator!

But hey! If that's your interpretation, that's your interpretation. I can't make you like the balance changes - and if anyone sincerely believes that's what the figures mean, I don't know how I can change someone's mind in one post. From where I'm stood, though, the figures look pretty good - and I can't help but wonder if some people are just misrepresenting the data, so they can use it as a stick to beat people over the heads with their fairly dubious argument.

I'm on a break right now. I take one every month or so, but since school has started, I actually need to focus on that work even in my "free time."

Also, Doctor Who. :D

I'll be on again soon, so I think it's less of a decline, and more of a fluctuation due to life and responsibility. :)

The game came out 7 months ago and the multiplayer has hardly been updated or fixed since release. Still the same three enemy times and the same horde mode. New chracters/maps/weapons can only freshen it up so much. Basically, there have been plenty of AAA titles released since and a slew of upcoming highly anticipated games, some of them multiplayer as well. (Borderlands 2 obviously, as well as the highly acclaimed Assassin's Creed multiplayer.)

I myself have been playing less and less in the last couple of months, maybe I'll play a game or two a day. I'm in the beta for Planetside 2 though, so that has been taking up most of my online play time, as well as looking forward to FTL on Friday to take up my "I'm bored" time.

Long story short, the game is getting old.

It has nothing to do with balancing change, that's what I like to think. It's a 6 months old game, time to play a new/different game, I know I have. I played one match in the last two week just to get my commendation pack. When Borderlands 2 is release, ME3 will be sitting in my shelf collecting dust.

For me , it;'s the frustration. disconnects putting an additional limit to the amount of credits I can make for time invested, and a store that rewards me with usable items only 5% of the time.

The day will come when I spend 3 hours playing, only end up with 250k to spend, because of disconnects, and then get all ammo for the umpteenth time. Honestly, if BL or any other halfway decent game comes along that does not have the connection issues, It will pull me away.

It won't be because I want to so much , as I will just be tired of the frustration level that this game fosters.

Multiplayer is repetitive and buggier than a surrey with the fringe on top, and ME3 is old news. Most everyone on my "friends list" has moved on to more stable/varied games.

Wait stop right there. Please elaborate what assuredly scientific measurements you have used to ascertain the amount of players in multiplayer.

Has the waterlevel in the pool dropped or something?

I'm just saying you have no basis right out of  the gate.

Agreed. I'm actually surprised there are still this many people still playing 6 months post-launch. The N7 operation weekends have been a great idea... it's enough to keep the game installed for me, at least.

Exactly, what game has anyone in this thread played forever and continues to play daily?

When I'm still needing Uncommon and Rare Gear and getting the above I pretty much question why I'm still wasting my time on the game.

If you are still needing Uncommons you need to buy buying Veteran Packs and, on the upside, you'll find it pretty easy to max out your consumables at the same time :P
