any suggestions to a keyboard that is
* not wireless
*has no flappy palm comfort stuff, if it does it mustbe a part ofthe keyboard not a detachable piece
* able to be purchased online or from australian retail stores
*doesnt cost me a arm and a leg
*is a tradional keyboard setup, not in strange round shapes and stuff
i like simple keyboards, nothign too fancy but whats most important to me is that the keys are easily accecable for fast micro action.

It has a steel base that keeps it from "traveling" on you.
It also has laser etched, backlit keys for low light typing.

I picked mine up at my neighborhood Wal Mart. If you don't have one of those, you can buy it online:

I'm pretty sure that's the one I have, but the picture is too small to be able to properly tell. Also, I think some of the features they mentioned don't exist, so perhaps it's not the same one... it looks like it though.
I'm pretty sure the bottom part on the one in the picture is detachable. I don't have a detachable part on mine, but it may have come with one... the bottom part of the keyboard doesn't get in the way.
Neither of those can be delivered to Australia.MarloMarlo wrote...

Pretty much. It's just a peripheral to me, not like I actually need X-keys or something.XaintMP wrote...
Didn't know picking a new keyboard was this complicated. I consider myself lucky if I can find all of the symbols I want. Took me forever to find the backslash key

Any will do, as long as it has all the essentials.

There's a newer generation of them called the Cyborg Eclipse, so the Eclipse II is very inexpensive right now.

I dunno if it works well or not, but if ya (or anyone else) decide to give it a try, id be really interested in how it works out. Especially if it's cool enough to use it's USB connection & waste the Keyboard-dedicated PS/2 port Motherboards tend to have.
Edit: Also decided this might be interesting to look at as well:

Once again, can't vouch for it & am interested in performance intel from anyone who has tried this model.
Edit 2: Found yet another possibility of interest:

In the 2nd pic, it doesn't look like the keyboard light is doing anything for the button letters, numbers, or any other labeling. Isn't that the part of the keyboard that's the biggest priority to light? Makin me wonder about Saitek... Actually, I dunno bout the G15 or Razer either. The G15 has loads of features that could easily go unused, & the Razer is expensive. I'm wondering if the 3rd link I submitted is the best bet so far.IAGTTBleed wrote...
I can recommend a Saitek, I got a backlit one two years ago and have had absolutely zero problems with it.

Traditional setup, no fancy stuff and the like?
Try this one: Cherry G80-3000 (or the cheaper model G81-3000)
This is a workhorse and built for a long live. If you don't need all the media and gaming stuff from the "top of the art" keyboards like Logitech G15/G19, Saitek and other more gaming related keyboards the Cherry G80-3000 is the first choice (at least Cherry is my favourite keyboard manufacturer).
The keyboard should be available at every retail store in civilized regions

You're right it only lights up around the keys. It's an old keyboard as I said, the model before they started making the letters and stuff light up too. Provides more than enough light to see what I'm doing though. I just wanted to show that the build quality from Saitek is good as the keyboard has lasted for years with no problems.

As long as it's not a low profile/flat one it's very easy to clean which will get rid of the dirt and if the letters are starting to rub you should know where the keys are by now. Unfortunately the blockish feel is probably due to the rubber dome springs wearing out and there's not much you can do about that.

Plus Cherry Keyboards (the serious ones at least, I don't know about their shiny plastic stuff) are all laser marked so the key markings will last for a long time (or forever if you're not a heavy typist).
The G80 and G81 ranges also use metal and plastic key feel mechanisms instead of the usual rubber so they will last a long time, the downside of this is that they're also louder than normal keyboards. The MX key switches used in the G80s come in three different versions: linear, soft and click. The soft and the click ones are apparently the better two as far as feel goes. The G81 series only comes in a linear varient and can apparently be a little strong.
The cases aren't that well built, but are good enough to last along with the important bits if it's going to stay sat on a desk most of the time.
If you want something rather cheaper I've heard good things about Cherry's Cymotion Expert for typing on (although, oddly, not the rest of the stuff in the cymotion range) and it's also billed as extremely robust and liquid and dirt resistant.

Found yet another option. This one's price is FIERCE, but it seems to have good light power, & a larger amount of practical options, including Hi-Speed USB 2.0! Not a large amount of reviews, but the ones that are there seem to make the odds of this keyboard bein durable look favorable:

Are logitech's so-called gaming keyboards still only 2/3 key rollover?
If you're after a serious, durable gaming keyboard in the US I'd go for something like a Filco. It doesn't have the fancy lights and built in USB hub but it's a lot less plasticky and nicer to type on. The people at geekhack are a good reference for high-end keyboards like the Filco, although some of them are rather too dismissive of normal (rubber dome spring) keyboards and the community doesn't have much professional-level gaming knowledge.

I-ROCKS KR-6820E-BK Black 104 Key USB/PS2 Wired Back-lit Gaming Keyboard (Orange LED)
It has a non-normal layout, is small, is naturally USB but can use a Keyboard USB - PS2 Adaptor, (not included, but I doubt it'll be hard to find.) $30ish bucks with free shipping as of the time of this post, & it's not wasting cash on stupid frivolous buttons. It looks like this Keyboard might have good bang for buck.
Anyone have intel on it? It's lookin like a new top pick for those of us that want to spoil ourselves, but aren't rich.
(& to the TC, my apologies for constantly failing your criteria at researching if the Keyboard is obtainable in Austrailia or not, but I don't have a clue how to do that.
