Why is there hate for Multiplayer.

The problem is EA's idea of multiplayer is deathmatch and capture-the-flag bullcrap. My fear would be adding multiplayer in that ME3/CoD style would mean BioWare was slipping even further away from Dragon Age being a tactical, party-based cRPG. What is Dragon Age if you only control a single character, even in multiplayer...is that even Dragon Age anymore?

Personally, I'm hoping any multiplayer the game includes is in the form of 4 player co-op dungeons, but if they can add some sort of drop in and drop out feature for regular play that would be cool.

Personally, I didn't like ME3's version of multiplayer. It was just Horde mode but done worse. Much like Bioshock 2's multiplayer, it felt superfluous. There was no originality or innovation. It didn't add anything to the product and some of it bled over into the single-player with N7 'another wave!' missions.
Ugh, I remember it in DA2 like it was yesterday. You guys at BioWare better not try that **** again. Nobody wants Dragon Age 3 multiplayer wave-based survival mode. Even Ghost Recon started doing this ****.
The lack of originality and imagination from game developers today is scary. It's hard to get excited about games today. They all say and do the same things. And if by some miracle you do get something fresh and original, it doesn't sell 10 million copies and they consider it a failure.
I want Mirror's Edge 2. But we won't get that for a while, if ever. But Battlefield 4 is already on the way and will probably be out early next year. All the suckers who bought BF3 and it's expansions will be left out in the wind. Instead of supporting the games, you just keep re-relasing the same game with better graphics and less and less content on the disc.
It's disgusting.

One of the major complaints about DA2 is that Bioware did not repeat DAO's plot and settings. If anyone doesn't deserve this rant about "keep re-relasing the same game" it is the DA team.

What happens to the pause screen in multiplayer?
It will probably still be available, but the game itself will not be paused.
So if you like to manage your party, you will probably get killed sorting through your equipment.

I still don't understand why there needs to be multiplayer. It has nothing to do with Dragon Age.
Since when does multiplayer have anything specific to do with any franchise? MMO franchises being excluded. If you mean in the sense that the DA franchise started off without multiplayer then that still doesn't mean anything. If DA3 does end up having multiplayer it wouldn't be the first subsequent game in a franchise to adopt it.

This is bait and I'm not supposed to mention how happy I was to play through BG with a friend adding the Amber NPC mod, right?CrustyBot wrote...

But it was cool how my character could romance Amber while his character was romancing Viconia~~ That one mod lessened the feel of me playing second fiddle to the big guy, which is the only downside to BG-style multiplayer. Enriel wasn't going to become a Bhaalspawn any time soon, but at least he had a subplot of his own x)

I dont think people bought DAO and DA2 because of the potential multiplayer in DA3.
I don't know if this is really a good reason to not put something into a game if you think it'll still provide value for your customers though.
I played more ME3 than I did either of the first two games in large part due to the multiplayer. And I didn't even play "random" games and only played with friends. But I didn't pick the game up for the multiplayer, even if I did enjoy its addition to the game.

I prefer multiplayer games when I can co-op with someone who is in the room with me. Online with strangers doesn't really tickle my pickle. All my DA-playing friends are on XBox while PS3 is my console of choice, so I probably won't make much use of a hypothetical multiplayer mode.

Lack of cross-platform play is pretty sad =\\ I have the same issue where I'm on xbox and most of my friends are on PC. Depending on how multiplayer turns out in DA3 I just may have to pick the game up for both platforms, just so I can do multiplayer with my friends on their platform of choice.Plaintiff wrote...

I'm imagining some kind of 'drop in/drop out co-op mode were implemented, and a friend or random stranger joined my game.. for the sake of simplicity, and not knowing any DA:III characters, I'll revert to DA:II......
"I am called Hawke, will you aid me against the Quanari?
"What are you talking about I'm Hawke, who the hell are you??"
" No, you're very much mistaken, I assure you that I'm Hawke!"
"Well one of us is definitely Hawke...
"Yes, and it's me!"
etc. etc....
In any case I've no problem with MP, as long as it doesn't affect the single player game in such a manner as to make MP a pre-requisite for getting the most out of the SP game.
I'd not personally use it, but each to their own.

If it allows me to co-op with someone in the same room, I might be able to tear my mother away from Farmville for a minute. We used to co-op Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath on the PS2. I played those games more times than I can count.
