Personally I see multiplayer in the style of NWN and BG/2 as totally acceptable. DA3 would have to have multiplayer like that to retain any semblance of remaining true to being a party-based cRPG.

The problem is EA's idea of multiplayer is deathmatch and capture-the-flag bullcrap. My fear would be adding multiplayer in that ME3/CoD style would mean BioWare was slipping even further away from Dragon Age being a tactical, party-based cRPG. What is Dragon Age if you only control a single character, even in multiplayer...is that even Dragon Age anymore?

Maybe they could add some sort of summoned guardian/spirit/pet type character for others to control in situations where the PC is supposed to be cut off from other people. They could also allow people to play as Mercenary type characters similar to Fable 2 and 3 instead of actual companions so the story doesn't end up being affected.

Personally, I'm hoping any multiplayer the game includes is in the form of 4 player co-op dungeons, but if they can add some sort of drop in and drop out feature for regular play that would be cool.

RPG's are a single-player venture for me. When I want multiplayer, I play Rainbow Six or some other shooting game. I don't load up Dragon Age and start thinking to myself "damn, I really wish this had multiplayer!".

Personally, I didn't like ME3's version of multiplayer. It was just Horde mode but done worse. Much like Bioshock 2's multiplayer, it felt superfluous. There was no originality or innovation. It didn't add anything to the product and some of it bled over into the single-player with N7 'another wave!' missions.

Ugh, I remember it in DA2 like it was yesterday. You guys at BioWare better not try that **** again. Nobody wants Dragon Age 3 multiplayer wave-based survival mode. Even Ghost Recon started doing this ****.

The lack of originality and imagination from game developers today is scary. It's hard to get excited about games today. They all say and do the same things. And if by some miracle you do get something fresh and original, it doesn't sell 10 million copies and they consider it a failure.

I want Mirror's Edge 2. But we won't get that for a while, if ever. But Battlefield 4 is already on the way and will probably be out early next year. All the suckers who bought BF3 and it's expansions will be left out in the wind. Instead of supporting the games, you just keep re-relasing the same game with better graphics and less and less content on the disc.

It's disgusting.

Huh ?

One of the major complaints about DA2 is that Bioware did not repeat DAO's plot and settings. If anyone doesn't deserve this rant about "keep re-relasing the same game" it is the DA team.

It will probably still be available, but the game itself will not be paused.

So if you like to manage your party, you will probably get killed sorting through your equipment.

Mainly because it's like a fifth wheel on a wagon: unnecessary.

I am against multiplayer because I have seen no evidence for it being included without being detrimental to the single player.  I only play videogames single player.  If I am interacting with other people, I am generally watching a movie, drinking, or something less "interactive".  I have no desire to get a game and then see how it was obviously made for multiplayer in-game.  Multiplayer achievements, combat designed for multiplayer, balancing for the sake of multiplayer, etc etc.  I loved DA:O and the Dragon Age world but Dragon Age 2 hurt me really really badly.  The last thing I want is to see DA3 and to have something in single player done sloppily, something that should have been an obvious fix, or something that should have obviously been included but the content was up to par and we have multiplayer.  One of the worse things I have seen was when someone said on the Mass Effect forums that they had given up on the single player but it was really good as a multiplayer game.  I got ME3 because I wanted to finish the story from ME1, not because I am willing to give up on the story as a lost cause and am just going to enjoy multiplayer.  A game has a limited amount of resources and nothing I have seen has given me confidence that Bioware will be able to make a series redeeming solid DA3 if they devote things to multiplayer.

I still don't understand why there needs to be multiplayer. It has nothing to do with Dragon Age.

Since when does multiplayer have anything specific to do with any franchise?  MMO franchises being excluded.  If you mean in the sense that the DA franchise started off without multiplayer then that still doesn't mean anything.  If DA3 does end up having multiplayer it wouldn't be the first subsequent game in a franchise to adopt it.

my main greif with the multiplayer is that its mostly forced on us. as long as the main focus was the single player i dont really care. they couldve made a hub world for each main planet like the krogan, turian, and asari homeworld in single player where u get some missions. it could easily include the same mp maps but with a bit more story...unlike the n7 missions where u play it once.

do i play me3 mp? that would be a big no. do i think they wasted time with the mp instead of focusing on sp? yes.

This is bait and I'm not supposed to mention how happy I was to play through BG with a friend adding the Amber NPC mod, right?

But it was cool how my character could romance Amber while his character was romancing Viconia~~ That one mod lessened the feel of me playing second fiddle to the big guy, which is the only downside to BG-style multiplayer. Enriel wasn't going to become a Bhaalspawn any time soon, but at least he had a subplot of his own x)

I dont think people bought DAO and DA2 because of the potential multiplayer in DA3.

I don't know if this is really a good reason to not put something into a game if you think it'll still provide value for your customers though.

I played more ME3 than I did either of the first two games in large part due to the multiplayer.  And I didn't even play "random" games and only played with friends.  But I didn't pick the game up for the multiplayer, even if I did enjoy its addition to the game.

I don't get it either, I'd think people would leap at the chance to go on a fantasy adventure with their friends, isn't that why RPGs exist in the first place? I can only assume that the majority of self-titled "gamers" don't have anyone to play with.

I prefer multiplayer games when I can co-op with someone who is in the room with me. Online with strangers doesn't really tickle my pickle. All my DA-playing friends are on XBox while PS3 is my console of choice, so I probably won't make much use of a hypothetical multiplayer mode.

Lack of cross-platform play is pretty sad =\\ I have the same issue where I'm on xbox and most of my friends are on PC. Depending on how multiplayer turns out in DA3 I just may have to pick the game up for both platforms, just so I can do multiplayer with my friends on their platform of choice.

Forgive me, but I've just had an appalling (and probably not very original) thought.

I'm imagining some kind of 'drop in/drop out co-op mode were implemented, and a friend or random stranger joined my game.. for the sake of simplicity, and not knowing any DA:III characters, I'll revert to DA:II......

"I am called Hawke, will you aid me against the Quanari?
"What are you talking about I'm Hawke, who the hell are you??"
" No, you're very much mistaken, I assure you that I'm Hawke!"
"Well one of us is definitely Hawke...
"Yes, and it's me!"

etc. etc....

In any case I've no problem with MP, as long as it doesn't affect the single player game in such a manner as to make MP a pre-requisite for getting the most out of the SP game.

I'd not personally use it, but each to their own.

My friends are filthy rich, they can shell out for an extra copy of DA3. Posted Image

If it allows me to co-op with someone in the same room, I might be able to tear my mother away from Farmville for a minute. We used to co-op Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath on the PS2. I played those games more times than I can count.

If the awsomeness of the single player, with its story, combat companions, etc., would make me forget about the multiplayer than I will become a believer, that a multiplayer is worth the time that the devs spend creating it. I guess it comes down to balance.
