Assuming your Warden was a human mage, was he/she born in Kirkwall or Ferelden? The mage Warden's mother was Revka Amell, cousin to Leandra Amell. And soon as the Mage Warden displayed magica talents he/she was handed over to Ferelden Magi Tower.

If I remember correctly one of your companions asks you about your past before the tower. There are 3 or 4 options to pick from, none of which mention Kirkwall I believe.

We're never really given enough information on Warden Amell's background to know. All we know is that s/he has been in the Circle a long time. Usually conversations with companions don't reveal a lot, and you only get the basics.

Such as Morrigan's 'dare I ask of your own mother?' gets a specific extra option for Tabris/Brosca/Mahariel/Cousland/possibly Aeducan, but Amell/Surana get the basic 'I love her, what more than you need to know?'/'There's nothing to say'/'Bugger off' options.

And Zevran's question of whether you come from any 'glittering gem' (in comparison to Antiva) get the extra options Denerim for Tabris, Orzammar for Brosca/Aeducan, Highever for Cousland and 'my people have no lands' for Mahariel, but Amell/Surana get the basic 'my mother is better than any gem'/'I'm not from any gem, no'/'Bugger off' options.

I always had the impression that the mage Warden was from Feralden.
They have a Mage Tower in Kirkwall so if he/she was from there why would they be sent to Feralden instead of to the local tower?
