1) I think i'll need to host via IP: When my friend searches to join, the IP address he needs is my one right?

2) Can custom portraits and soundsets work? Or is there something i have to do that can get them to work (as in the one with customs hosts, or even the exact same sounds and portraits on the other player's machine)?

3) When games are saved, is it all saved on the host machine, or is it both?

Edit:

4) About mods, i can imagine he'd need BGT, but what about smaller mods like Nathaniel and the Gibberlings tweak pack? If he hosts can i join his game (and hense have the other mods cancelled out)?

1) Yes.
2) Files need to be saved on both machines.
3) Host.
4) I would recommend identical set-ups (not only same mods, but same settings in ini as well).

That is the most important one for me :wizard:
Need to make sure he has the exact same files though... wish i knew how to easily send ZIP files to him (i got a nvm portrait pack that had to be cropped and resized one by one, however i got the icewind dale portraits from sorcerers).

Gate70 and I use Skype to talk to each other during multiplayer as well as to transfer files (such as custom portraits).

I always wanted to play a multiplayer BG game, but my timing seems so aweful, it's like either no one who owns the game uses multiplayer.....

I'm assuming BG2 has a lot of users still, right?
