As a disclaimer, I'm not bothered by M/M romances, but my Shepard is straight and finds it odd that his friend is now hitting on him. I'd prefer to keep Kaidan around rather than Ash, but I'm wondering how to permanently 'friendzone' Kaidan so it doesn't come up? (no pun intended)

Yes, locking in another romance will kill his interest. Also, I heard that if you don't give him the gift, he won't go there either. But I don't know if that last one is true.

For a non-import Shepard

Well, you saved him at Virmire.

So really it's your fault for sending mixed signals.

Don't talk to him on the Citadel. Problem solved.

Because saving a higher rank officer with exceptional abilities is a homosexual signal, not common sense.

I'm glad we agree.

When he says (paraphrased)

"Shepard, would you like to become romantically involved with me?"

You say (paraphrased):

"No Kaidan, I would not like to become romantically involved with you"

It's not that difficult.

Nuke him on Virmire

He asked for it

And if you don't want Ashley
Shoot her on the Citadel

The only way to also avoid that "flirting" line in the Citadel Hospital I think might be to avoid the gift or have another romance from ME2 like Miranda or Jack.

It's not that difficult.

Except that the dismissal line is closer to, "We should keep this professional." Which kind of implies that Shepard does have feelings for Kaiden, he just doesn't want to act on them.

This is the mistake I made, so I felt like a dick for the rest of the game because I'd broken Kaiden's heart.

So yeah, lock in before his talk to avoid hurt feelings.

I thought in order to romance Kaidan, you need to bring him a bottle of wine.

It was whiskey, but still.
Can't a man give another man a bottle of alcohol without homosexual undertones?

If not, that means every time I go over to my mate's place on the weekend bearing grog, I'm asking to have sex with him. No wonder it's been awkward lately.

It's a gameplay mechanic that I suspect the devs put there specifically for straight males to avoid the gay romance with Kaidan but at the same time allow gay Shepard to experience full romance with Kaidan. It would be a pain if I have to do all the works to romance him. I like that they allow Kaidan to take the initiative. Sometimes, it astounds me how some people seek out the gay option just to complain. I'm not talking about you but in general, even when the devs specifically give the player the option to avoid the gay relationship, they would still choose it. :pinched:

I do not get it, ASHLEY, regardless of religion or faith or whatever, does not see Saving her as a homosexual signal, why does Kaidan? OH, right, he was written bisexual for ME3.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too - I was buying a sick mate a bottle of booze, not trying to get into his pants.

I know I could prevent it by not talking to Kaidan but...he's my friend (in the game), it would be rude to ignore him. Plus sure I could save Ash, but Kaidan is more useful ie has better powers; is a superior officer; plus Ash going from Sergeant to a Lieutenant Commander in the space of three years is bizarre. Plus I lose all respect for her when she gets boozed up on the Normandy.

You can just say no to him, he'll still say he respects you as a friend. But the conversation is a little more awkward so it's just better to lock other romance before going to dinner with him.

@Captain_Obvious_au Just lock-in romance with another character before talking to him on the Citadel and he'll give you his friendship lines. You can always turn him down if ever you talk to him first. He'll never take it against you and he'll still be professional about it (will never bring it up again) afterwards.

Dont buy him the booze and on the mars mission pick mostly renegade options. I did as femshep and got totally friendzoned, didnt get a single flirt out of him, which i found amusing as i didnt realise you could even do that. I think the critical lines to renegade are the ones after finding the trooper/husk chap, though i could be wrong. But after that you can chat to him all you like and he wont hit on you.

Agreed, I did think that was a little weird.
