Loses all respect for Ashley because she had a few drinks

>

Buys Kaidan a bottle of whiskey to help him feel better

I can see these kind of comments now... "Ashley is a woman. She shouldn't be drinking in the first place."

Well, you saved him at Virmire.

So really it's your fault for sending mixed signals.

Indeed.
It's not like Bioware didn't try to warn you. A non-imported male Shepard always saves Ashley... that should of been a clue for you to prevent an incoming gay romance.

Invalid argument. Non-imported FemShep always saves Kaidan and if one were to save Ash, Ash never tries her "luck" with FemShep.
Also, all romances are optional.
(Can't tell if your reply was 100 % sarcasm, so I'm sorry if it was.) :P

As a disclaimer, I'm not bothered by M/M romances, but my Shepard is straight and finds it odd that his friend is now hitting on him. I'd prefer to keep Kaidan around rather than Ash, but I'm wondering how to permanently 'friendzone' Kaidan so it doesn't come up? (no pun intended)

You are in his clutches now!

Edit: (I forgot the evil laughs) MUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHHAHHAAHAHAAA!!!!!!

Ashley is the kind of girl you take on a romantic date, buy her all sorts of stuff, and yet it doesn't lead to sex.

WHERE DID I GO WRONG

Also, she doesn't dig chicks. That too.

I always thought it was fairly obvious in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games when you were about to trigger a same-sex romance. Is the mere appearance of the option on the dialogue wheel so problematic when you can just click a different option?

TERRIFIC LOGIC

Sure, because it's a different context.

With Kaidan you're bringing him a bottle of alcohol to him whilst he's in hospital (okay, not the smartest thing to do) but he's clearly out of action. With Ashley she's the second human Spectre who is on active duty yet gets plastered. That's woeful discipline right there.

Just... Don't pick the romance dialogue?

Yeah, don't buy him the booze and pick renegade-ish options and you should be fine. Or just have a Tali/Liara romance locked in when you import.

Don't select the Romance options....... does this really need to be asked?

As the OP said, he wants to avoid Kaidan hitting on him. While some people may say "Who cares?" if that breaks his immersion who am I to judge? Most straight guys I know aren't homophobic, but still would be uncomfortable with their male friend hitting on them.

Maybe they should stop sending mixed signals...

Oh well now they know how women feel. They can deal with it.

You mean groups of platonic female friends are constantly flirting with each other?
Why was I not informed?

Yes, locking another romance before the dinner talk with Kaidan changes his dialogue to a plain friendly one.

Lock in with someone else first, and don't buy him the booze. It's what I do, and I've never had him hit on me.

I wonder why you feel the need to make a ton of troll posts. It's not even funny.

Ah, but straight males are trained at a young age to push all of their emotions deep down inside where no-one can see them, and just keep them in that bottle and not deal with them. It's a cruel double-standard in western culture, where women are allowed to have all of these icky feelings, but the moment a guy has an emotion, all of his male friends will immediately ask him what color his purse is.

No no can't do that. Must whine that the option is there despite the big bold letters saying "Uh...I WANNA BE FRIENDS."
