The only question I have is will there be official news on the forum before IGN has news about something dropping for Mass Effect 3?

It will be Jessica Merizan, Chris Priestly, and the rest of the community management team that will be reviewing the surveys.

For my part, when I am not actively working on one project or another, I flit about the MP forums bringing joy and happiness to all the good boys and girls.  Image IPB

Incidently, the survey has gone around internally as well.

If people really want to see more of a dev presence then, here's a tip:

Developers are people too.  The last thing they want to do is have people; telling them their job; telling them they suck; trying to cram their game-design / balance philsophy down their throats; or generally being jerks by saying things like, "BioFail can't patch worth a crap!", etc and the list goes on.

BSN is meant to be a place for civilized discussion.  You can disagree with each other, certainly, but there is no reason for anyone to be a jerk about it.  Although BSN's medium is the internet, this is supposed to be much more civil than the rest of the internet.  I equate this to being our home and you are all guests in it.  If you urinate in the potted plant, then you will be escorted out.  On the same note, if you are an angry, uncontrolled individual, then you will likewise be escorted off the premises regardless of whether or not you have outright broken any of the rules.  No one wants to engage that sort of person.  No matter the excuse.

We have customer service personnel who specialize in dealing with irate individuals over disputes.  As devs, we aren't customer service people.  We would like to have more open discussions, but in much more controlled and civilized environments.

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that no dev wants a negative experience engaging people on the forums but I think everyone can agree, at this stage, BSN does not have the safe feel it once did.  Jessica, Chris, and the other BSN managers would like to see that happen again.

Devs can be a shy lot.  If they feel threatened, they will scurry back to their dark, safe, cavernous environments, and eat chocolate, cookies, chips, and other comfort foods until the scary things go away before venturing out into the light again.

I am certain none of this comes as a surprise to anyone but, there you have it.  We need to make this a safe environment in order for more dev sightings to occur.

Maybe not what you wanted to hear but, c'est la vie.

Cheers

2 things:

1. I get that, and I usually end up being a BW apologist on some of those things, like when people talk about bugs and whine about how long fixes take. I avidly avoid the story forums, because everyone there seems to just be filled with inconsolable rage towards Bioware, and it's exhausting just to see. The problem is, because this forum does exist, there's sort of a hidden sense, maybe an implication, that Bioware will be somewhat responsive to its fanbase when our concerns are voiced. When we don't hear anything at all about bug fixes and we don't even really KNOW what BW's balance philosophy is, it's sort of disheartening. I also get why you guys would want to stay out of certain discussions, because the fanbase is probably GOING to argue, and sometimes, it might be best for us all if we don't have the chance. Just explaining our side of things.

2. Where are the potted plants AT, anyways? I've been holding for hours.

1. I understand.  Yes, bugs take a great deal of time to nail down.  The vanguard glitch that the community is happy to remind us of is one of those ones I wish I could explain to everyone's satisfaction however, it would take pages.  Yes, long story on that one and an even longer one when we THOUGHT we had it nailed down the first time.  The short answer to balance changes...We don't want to make it easy.  LOL! I know, I know.  Yes, players like Redjohn will always make it look easy and when my favourite weapons are on the block in our meetings I am so tempted to defend them with all my might but I have to remain professional.  Eric, Corey, and Boldwin are the weapon gods.  They require cookie sacrifices often and get cranky when their blood sugar is low.

2. I LOL'd. Image IPB

The problem with both the single and multiplayer boards is that only excessively negative criticism is responded to (in the form of a lock or ban). For posters, some attention can be preferred to no attention.

If we felt that positive criticism was heard, we might post more.

Derek, can you announce that you could possibly announce that in the future something will be announced that will announce some possible MP DLC? Any sort of announcement will do, as i have been completely inactive for about a month now, but i want to come back. Ive been Dark Souls'ing for the past month and im currently on my third playthrough and not looking back. But i want to look back

Any possible announcements would be done by the announcement fairies.  If there is anything to announce, you will hear it.  Otherwise I am under strict guidelines not even to hint at what the studio is working on, including timings.  I really wish I could tell you about all the exciting things we are doing here but, alas, I cannot.

Ok.  At the risk of beginning rumours, I will say Eric has just agreed to look at it again.  Please, please PLEASE! Do not get your hopes up on that.  But, yes.  The fact that it takes longer to level is a good arguement.

Que lots of "OMG THE EAGLE IS GETTING BUFFED!!!" and "Will the eagle be any better if it's buffed?" threads....

Sheesh, way to give out spoilers. Also in regards to a question on that survey, and another thread at the moment, there is an App for Android called Tapatalk. Maybe if you wanted to make it more mobile friendly you could try that? Only a suggestion. :)

Also, Derek, question that's been bugging me for weeks, out of curiosity, what do you guys do on your breaks at work? I browse the forums, I'm assuming you try to get as far away from a computer as possible?

Yeah I see a lot of great ideas on BSN. It would be cool if the devs came in and gave their opinions on them. Even though my ideas will probably never happen I would be interested to see what they thought of it anyway.

I know what you mean, I want them to see my ideas too

Knitting a sweater for warmth in the winter? Right, environmental hazards (dynamic weather systems) confirmed in multiplayer - for example, moving around on Firebase White is required to avoid freezing to death. Done and done.

its unique. its the only rapid fire heavy pistol. and its not harder to get, just harder to level. someone could only play bronze and but only vet packs and still get an eagle.

I disagree.

There have only been a limited number of weekend operations through which one could have acquired the four N7 weapons. It is likely that quite a few people have not acquired at least one of the four at this point.

It is on the other hand relatively easy to get a Carnifex X simply by putting enough credits or even real-life money into PSP since the Carnifex is just a rare tier weapon.

That is why I am of the opinion that the Eagle is indeed harder to get and level than the Carnifex and therefore should ideally be the better weapon.

Yyyyaaawn, ah... So what have I missed? When's the juicy dlc coming out? It's ok, you can whisper it to me if it's too uncomfortable to disclose to the public. You can trust me, I'm a class act, and will keep my mouth shut... Sort of.

I take my breaks sporadically at my desk.  Lunch, however, I usually spend in the gym.  Others pretty much have the same idea for their short breaks.  We do have a "games room" for when people feel they need a break (pool table, old-style pinball machines, etc.)  Lunches are a crapshoot for the staff.  Various things happen at lunch..usually consuming mass quantities of foodstuffs, of course.

I wouldn't mind the BSN being friendlier period. Having the devs jump in and join the discussion are the sprinkles on the cupcake. (Dang, Sniper needs food badly! D: LOL.)

When I see a thread that looks interesting and I might comment on, but as I read the posts, more and more grumpiness and anger pops up, I tend to shy away and hide in my sniper's nest...

Amazing. Now my Eagle V is finally useful,  and I don't need to be jealous of the people taunting their Hurrican VI and Valiant V.

Not saying I want Eagle to be as powerful as Carnifex or Paladin, but there needs to be something that is unique to it, to make it worth using, like the stability of Valiant. Valiant is not the most powerful sniper rifle, but a lot of people still love it, me included.  Give Eagle something that makes us Eagle owners proud.

0.25 innate AP with it's current stats would be nice. Or a stability increase with it's current stats. Overall, it's damage genuinely IS fine, it's stability and viability really varies from character to character, with the stability/recoil of it being too much for the characters that Derek's team seems to think it's best for (Caster classes).

We do still play often.  The live team and the gameplay team make this a priority to stay current.  So, yes, often in a balance meeting if someone brings up a weapon or build, the folks on the team most familiar with those weapons or builds will speak up regarding the overall feel of them and will support balance change insights.

the raoli? Idk... At this point I just know on a scale of 1-10 it must be 300 because BW is usally pretty good with giving us a few bits of info before an offical release. and theryre working hard to make sure nothing gets out. which means this DLC must be to much, if they gave us info now. We would storm their headquarters and tear it down until we got our EPIC DLC!!1!11!111

I would love to see a thread will the staff's top 3 chr. builds. That would be really intresting, it walso makes me feel alot better to know that when you guys are making balance changes you've been in our shoes and experinced why they need to be buffed/nerfed
