[Damsel of Distress]

Now that we have visual representations of all the possible Dalish tattoos, would it be possible to get a list of what tattoos belong to which god?

For people keen on role-playing it would be really handy. If I decide I like the look of The Trickster's tattoo's I can incorporate it into my backstory about why my character would choose to venerate that god. Or if I'm playing a rough, tough berserker it might be a bit strange to have markings for the goddess of love and beauty.

Anyhow yeah i'd also like to know the meanings then, roleplaying through the game is always much more fun

I would both like to know that, and not know it. I like the tatoo I am using, and would be pissed to find out it is like the god of nugs or something.

Except you have the same tattoos for the human noble, who in no way would be worshiping dalish gods. I assume that bit of lore was never incorperated into the game, just like lyrium potions being addictive.

Actually, the tattoos are supposed to be based around your clan. It's like someone evil having the last name of Goodkind.

The tattoo's are chosen by each individual to show their patron deity. They aren't clan based (though I can imagine certain tattoos are more predominate in certain clans depending on their mindset.)

Each tattoo represents one of the elven pantheon, that elf's chosen patron. The Dalish tattoo their forehead as a rite of adult passage, as a way of making it absolutely unmistakeable to any observer who they are and what they believe.

It would be very cool to know which tattoos represent which deity. though I probably wouldn't change my tattoo. Basically he thought it was a good idea at the time (and still does, although his views may change as he's forced to mature)

In lore, Dalish tattoos DO have a meaning, as noted above. However, in the game these meanings are not defined, and the same tattoos are shared across all character generation. The long and short of it is that you can make it mean whatever you wish, and the game itself will not contradict you.

But it (being the game) might mock you later for using the toolset to tattoo "nug love 4eva" on your forehead...

well i presume the gods symbols will appear somewhere in the game in one form or another... And it wouldn't be fun to have some embarrassing symbol in your face when you meant your character to be something opposite. It's not really about if i can make any tattoo into what i wish, not depending on the lore even if the game won't shout what i'm worshipping right into my face, but it's still disturbing because i know it's there... on my face.

Just like a pimple or something that no-one really notices, but I know it's there and it's disturbing... That is if you care about that sort of stuff.

EDIT: I guess the easy solution would be to play some other charecter first and try to find out in-game ^^

I would love to know which tattoo represents Fen'Harel...who is basically the Dragon Age version of Fenris(Fenrir) which is what I name Dog everytime cause he pretty much chews on all those pesky mages:devil:

Why, that’s outstanding news! My next build’s tattoo will honor the god of swift blades and wild romance. . . my current markings only bow to the god of chewable vitamins and choking hazards.

Well i wondered this too, so I read all the codex's of the Dalish god/godess, then looked at all the Dalish tattoos, i made a guess to which tattoo is which.

As most of you will know, the Dalish tattoos have 2 forms per tattoo, one "basic" and the other with more details, I'm numbering each not by each click of the slider, but each tattoo pair (the basic and the detailed one both count as the same number) and I'm not counting the 'no tattoo' as one.

1) Ghilan'nain: Mother of the Halla
Why? Because the Frist pair is of a 'grove' of trees, making it seem safe, and about nature. Which the Halla have a big part in.

2) Elgar'nan: God of Vengeance
     It's Said that Elgar'nan was created by the earth and the sun comming close together, the tattoo pair is of two diffrent colors comming together (your skin color and the tattoo's) a yin and yan sort of thing.

3) Falon'Din: Friend of the Dead
Falon'Din is the Dalish god, who is said to lead spirts to the beyond, (or the fade) after their eathly body dies. The tattoo pair is of trees also, but if you look at the branch of the forhead for the more detailed tattoo, it looks more like a house, or a door/gateway of somekind.

4) Mythal: The Great Protector
On the more basic tattoo of the pair, it lookes more like a sheld, but in the more detailed of the two, theres 'sprouts' added too it, it's said because of Mythal she clamed down Elgar'nan and helped bring the earth back to life.

5) Sylaise: Hearth Keeper
Sylaise is known to be the ones to show elves fire, and to keep them safe from the cold. This tattoo pair has a flame in the middle of the forehead, and the more details make it look like it also has bricks, and smoke.

6) Dirthamen: Keeper of Secrets
Dirthamen is the twin brother of Falon'Din, who will never stay willingly apart from eachother. This is how the old elves how entered 'the waking sleep' and came back, gained new knowledge. The Tattoo pair has a sort of book shape covering the forehead, like a book hidden with secrets.

7) Andruil: Godess of the Hunt
Andruil tought the elves how to feed themselfs, and the way of the bow. This Tattoo pair swirls like how the shadows of the trees might cover you, and the more detailed verson covers the place below the eyes, to help keep the sun from refelting into your eyes.

8) June: God Of Craft
      June is known to have shown the elves how to make things, helping them simaly like Sylaise. And All the lines on the tattoo had to be created somehow!

You may have noticed there is'nt one for Fen'harel: the Dread Wolf, It's said he fooled the old elven gods, and the "unnamed evil" ones and sealing them in their own realms. He then got the name of "the great betrayer" So i would think that no one would want to honnor the one who locked their gods' away  thus, Fen'harel dosent have a tattoo.

*Note:
            These are all guesses on my part, and as fair as I know this is neither proven nor disproven in the game. This also has no real impact on the game play, only how your charater looks, if your the kinda person that just whats one that looks good, go ahead and use it! No one will care

Now that my dalish rogue is pretty much my favorite character, I approve. Sylaise, huh? letse, a sometimes burning, sometimes simply smoldering hatred of shems. warmth and comfort from her clan. uncontrolled, berserker rage is pointless, but controlled "fire" (the hearth above the flame) is powerful.

...yeah, I can live with that. :happy:

and now all you need to do is state an NPC example of each. :innocent:

I'm inclined to say your list is proven, for one reason. Going by your list, Keeper Zathrian wears the tattoo of Dirthamen, Keeper of Secrets - this just fits so well I can't believe it's not a coincidence.

The same tattoos definitely aren't across all races, the Dalish tattoos are usually way more detailed and symbolic-looking. And they aren't exactly something a Dalish elf would come to 'regret' and mature from, since they get them when they come of age and represent that they're proud of their heritage.

And I always thought the second to last tattoo set in Dalish CC was maybe Ghilan'nain, the mother of Halla, since that one looks kind of like Halla horns.
