I tried to run the game and was prompted to enter my key to activate the game.  I did so but then I get an error saying that the product key is already used... But I was able to register the game on this site... under the same account/email I used to try to activate the game.  It even shows up here under my registered games on my account...  What the heck is going on?!

Did you use Impulse? If you entered your key into the site before you finished downloading then you're screwed until they get around to fixing their broke*** system.

I used impulse too and if this is not fixed by tommorrow I am writing a letter to the BBB of VA, and I will be writing a letter to the AG as well. This is wrong. I payed for the software, and I am unable to use it because someone does not know how to configure a database to share information, which is rediculous because my EA account is linked to my Bioware account, same email address that is used to access the EA account, is the one for my bioware account. This is a 5 minute coding fix, and this comes from someone who worked as a DB programmer for a major Insurance company. Less than a minute to code, because all they need to do is transfer the data from the location its stored in which is probably a string, and move it to the correct spot on the EA server. I do not care who dropped the ball I just want it fixed and fixed as rapidly as I know it can be because I used to hotfix crap like this when 3rd party vendors screwed up.

I got the DDE via Impulse and have encountered the same error. I did submit the codes from the email using the link in that email, after having verified that I was logged in to the correct account, before the download actually finished. Also, maybe 2 hours ago I managed to get the site to recognize that I had registered the game. However, I still cannot even launch DAO since it won't progress past the authorization prompt due to the "product key already used" message (which I was getting well before I managed to register my game here, and which did not resolve after registration).

This is an absolute abortion. I too, bought through Impulse and I think I see a pattern developing.

(owl grabs horse demon style and ROASTS EVERYTHING IN HIS PATH!)

I can't believe I was stupid enough to take off work today. Massive suckage.

I should have just bought the game from the store.....Image IPB

This is pretty **** pathetic that something like this wasn't caught in a test of the system before they let X amount of people go ahead a screw up their keys. Thanks Impulse, last time a lot of people will be using your service I'm sure.

My fear is that EA will leave us high and dry. It's been almost 12 hours and they still haven't specifically addressed the impulse fiasco with keys. They may very well just tell us we're screwed and that we have to buy it again.

How exactly is it Stardock's fault that EA/Bioware can't get their crap together and deal with these issues before launch?

I'm having the same problem.

Bought DDE from Impulse, registered on site while downloading the game and when I tried to activate the game after installation, it said my CDKEY was in use. Unregistered the game from the site and still same problem. Waiting on BioWare/EA now.

I just want to say this isn't just a problem from Impulse, I bought from D2D and I have the exact same problem. My cd-key and codes are valid everywhere besides the actual game itself, this is not Impulse and D2D's problem but rather EA's, since EA might've either sent duplicate cd-keys or set a few on active when they sent it out to these websites. Too bad Bioware had to merge with them :(

I just have to say, I hope that EA fixes this ASAP. It is unacceptable for people who have payed money for a product, and who have that product in-hand, not to be able to use that product. Even if the fix will take a while, the least they could do is let us know that they are working on it and give us some kind of ETA.

At least post an acknowledgment of the issue and an update...ANY kind of update would do. Right now I get the feeling I'm going to get screwed over by EA. If this isn't resolved by tonight, I may just dispute the charge on my credit card and report it as fraud.

Not a bad idea. I hate that I spent money and feel like I got nothing in return.

Same boat. Collector's Edition off of Impulse- it's infuriating that we're all sitting here, paid customers, the fanatically loyal (I mean, I forgave Bioware for the Mass Effect fiasco, so much so that I pre-ordered this game with the Collector's Edition no less) and then we get slapped like this. EA's not doing a thing to help us. Well, at least I have the soundtrack and wallpapers to comfort me (they're in the game folder).

Okay, I just took it on the chin and talked to a real live human from EA. He said my registration is all kosher, the problem is with impulse. So someone is passing the buck here. Either EA doesn't know what's going on, or Impulse used our codes accidentally or something.

seriously? was it via live chat or a phone call? cause if that's the case, I'm going to be livid after hearing from impulse that it's an EA issue for the last 24 hours.

Wow!  That's not encouraging.  Stardock's position is that anybody who tried to activate through the website initally has to contact EA support (as follows, I bolded the pertinent info):

Good Morning,

Another issue that's been cropping up is users trying to activate the game but being told that their activation key is already in use.
There are two paths to activate your key to your EA account.  At the moment only one of them is working.Method 1: Bioware Social Site.
If you activated your key via the Bioware Social site FIRST, then there is a high probability that your key is in limbo at the moment.  Users have reported back to me from EA support saying it's a known issue and they're working on it.
Unfortunately since it's an EA system issue, you will need to engage
with EA support to resolve your key.

Method 2: First time game launch after install.  The first time you run the game on a new machine you will be prompted to log in with your EA.com account and then if you don't already have an activation on the account, enter the product key into the launcher tool.  If you activate this way FIRST, everything should work.

If you registered via Method 2 FIRST, and are still having issues, then post here.

Hopefully this will be resolved by tonight.

I've gotten a total back and forth. Impulse insists it's an issue with EA, EA insists it's an issue with Impulse.

Great. I don't really care who's at fault. When are they going to let me play the game I paid for?

I talked a real live person, most likely at my expense since I'm calling from Canada. His name was Lance, and he called it an impulse problem because apparently everything was all good at his end. Hell, he even told me that my CD key was showing as registered to my account, which I find amusing. Then I asked him why it wasn't working. He said it was an issue with impulse. So, back to the drawing board. So, who wants to bombard EA AND Stardock with phone calls until they give us our damn game?

This is not impulse's fault. It's EA/Bioware fault for their crappy database servers not talking to each other. I don't know what to do atm im stuck in EA support limbo waiting for a response from them about fixing it.

I got through to a live person on EA, now, after a whole lot of the wailing and gnashing of teeth deal. I actually got something, though! They say, I quote, "I am sorry but we are aware of this issue and our engineers are working on it." and an apology that sounded like I'm at Disney World- "I am sorry you FELT inconvenienced."

...Yeah. Sounds like lingo to me. I wonder if that means they're acknowledging themselves as at fault, but I carry many doubts. And a desire to play this silly game. Maybe if I kick my computer repeatedly...
