For me yeah, I would put it up there with

KotOR,
Super Mario Bros 3,
Ocarina of Time,
Another World,
LOOM,
Street Fighter II,
DUNE,
Super Mario 64,

there are a few others that I think are probably as good but I didn't play them in their prime so they're not personal favourites.

1)Still 27 missions in absence of fetch quests. 35 as of Omega (which is the same as ME1) Fetch quests = replacement for mineral scanning. Another mini game that ties into the story. Play the SP mini game or play the MP. Both help

2)Auto Dialogue is fine. There is still a big amount of wheel dialogue. Regret no neutral option but bearable since I rarely picked it.

3) Ending is likeable for me with EC and Levy.

4)Glitches will always be glitches. Ill live

no, there were too many flaws other than the endings. glitches, fetch quests, auto dialogue, and the ending was atrocious.

skyrim was glitchy, ME2 was glitchy, it happens in a huge game like this, to say they ruin the game is being close minded and letting your anger get in the way.

Sorry, glitches should disqualify a game from the "best ever made" discussion. And you can't have an ending like ME3 and be put in that grouping.

End of Line.

Best game ever made? no.

Most important trilogy in gaming right now? easily yes.

Among the best game series in the world? definitely.

I feel that it's a good game, but it has too many low points to be considered great.

It was a good series, with an uplifting ending it would still be pretty good, but the best series ever I wouldn't say that, then again I really don't think their is a best video game series ever made yet or ever will, standards for that too high, but yeah pretty good game series.

Not only is it not, but it's very existence brings down the the rest of series from the rather high place it previously held on that list.

To answer the question in the topic title: Certainly not. The ending had absolutely nothing to do with anything in the game and it felt like it was designed by another team of writers who forgot about the rest of the Mass Effect script, look and feel.

You can't just take ME3 without looking at ME and ME2 as well. By far the most of us ordered the game to get the awesome conclusion of the trilogy, not a stand alone and well-polished shooter. It would never have become the most anticipated game of 2012 without people having played ME1&2 and losing themselves in it.

There still are very enthusiastic ME fans, but they are but a humble percentage of the orignal fanbase. It speaks for itself. They cut the price of the game in half shortly after release because they knew it wouldn't sell well at the original price. It speaks for itself. After 8 months, the internet is still ablaze with people raging about it being crap. It speaks for itself.
All this would not have happened if it was the best game ever.

And no, this has nothing to do with entitlement or expectation. Had it been an awesome game, then that would have been the general consensus. On itself, it did get close the the benchmark of a "good" game. It was decent, good in some fields, and poor in others. It's a well polished shooter, but that's it. There was basically not much groundbreaking. As a trilogy ender, it was just poor.

ME3 is not, cannot and should not be regarded as the best game ever, unless your individual preference is leaning that way. But in general terms? No, not even close.

Great game, but nowhere near any 'greatest ever's. Now it could it certainly belong to one of the greatest franchises ever, one of the greatest series', but by itself absolutely not.

I don't see how a game that murders itself and its older brothers simultaneously can be considered the greatest game of all time.

ME3 is a great game and a much better game than ME2 but unfortunately it is no longer an RPG game.

If it was called an action adventure game it would have been more correct and the game could be judged correctly.

So now that it's been a while and people have had a chance to cool down, I thought I might take the risk and defend ME3. Now before i start, don't get me wrong, i HATED the endings, theyre absolutely atrocious. But here's the thing; they are not bad endings in and of themselves, they are bad because they were ripped from another game and their logic does NOT belong in the ME universe and thus, creates plot holes and contradictions. But I'm sure if these were another games endings and the game was built around them, like Deus Ex, then no one would have a problem with them. Basically, the problem with the endings lies in the fact that they are unoriginal and DO NOT fit into the ME universe and its themes.

Now, this game does have other flaws; static journal, zaeed style convos, mediocre cameos (besides mordin's) for ME2 squad, the missed potential in making battle assets a useless number, and many others that people have brought up, but what game is without its flaws? Even everyones favorite, ME2 or ME1 had a ton of flaws. As for the auto-dialogue, i dont see the complaint there; they still let you choose the outcome of the convo and make the important decisions when they arose, so personally, i didnt mind the addition of some auto dialogue although, i do agree that the game would have been better without it; it was not a needed change and they could have avoided a lot of hate on that subject had they just left the convo and dialogue system alone.

But once you begin to look past these things, you begin to uncover a masterpiece (ignore the endings). Everything before the endings was simply..... beautiful. Never have i been so immersed in a story, so moved by the scenes and dialogue, so pumped during the action scenes. This game constantly gave me shivers, constantly tugged at my hear with senes like Mordin and Thane's death. And the soundtrack..... one of the most moving and powerful soundtracks ever made. Simply amazing. This was more than just a game to many people, it moved them, made them feel every decision, made them shiver with almost every line that was delivered. It was beautiful.

Was i tremendously disappointed in the endings? Hell yes. Tons of mised potential, but i can now tolerate them with the EC. Im not saying the EC fixes anything, but it allows me to play the game without hating it all because of the last 20 minutes. And now, on my thrid playthrough, i have finally moved on from the endings and fully enjoy the beauty that is the rest of the story. I do not think that any other game in the near future will come close to accomplishing what this game did; making fans fall in love with a story and making them FEEL every bit of emotion that was intended and allow them to actually feel like they are controlling the outcome of this universe.

It is just my opinion, and i know many disagree with me and will bash on me for saying it, but ME3 is undoubtedly (again, except for the endings) one of the best games ever made and one of the best stories ever told. It has earned a spot in my heart for as long as video games will exist.

95% Awesome 5% complete screw up. Just a shame that the 5% complete screw up was right at the end, totally ruining any awesome the game / games had.

....so ignore the vast majority of the things you loved about Mass Effect in the first place that ME3 did utterly wrong, and its the best game ever.

Right.

Ignore the fact that this car has no wheels, this is the best car ever. Or ignore the fact that this plane has no wings, this is the best plane ever.

It had the best combat of the Mass Effect Series, the best variety of potential consequences in the series, and had far better level design through verticality/smoke bombs/etc.

...but most people will not agree with the OP, I think. I do not, either.

I disliked far more about Mass Effect 3 than the last five minutes. The problems kick in seconds after starting up the game, and continue all the way through. The automatic, wooden dialogue, the inconsistent characterisation of Shepard as a person, the way Earth is pushed as something we should care about above everywhere else in the galaxy for apparently no better reason than because it's Earth... all of this starts within the first ten minutes.

It had it's moments of excellence, and I'll gladly rave about how great Tuchanka and Rannoch was. But let's not pretend it was some thirty hour masterpiece with five minutes of screw-up at the end.

mediocre game to be fair.  some of the graphical stuff is just laughable.  Editing is questionable.  Mass effect 2 is just miles better.  What the hell happened?

When the game's great, it's great. But when it's bad, it's really bad.

It has about 70% greatness and 30% badness.

Personally i'd say about 50/50 (Half good & half bad).

Is this a serious question? if so then definitly not. If this game is going to be considered the best of gaming, then i think i need to find another hobby.
