OP don't let these people get you down. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however after spending months in these forums hearing the same posters comment negatively over the game, usually with huge claims based on small nitpicks, many people have had a change of heart.

Just remember that when the fiasco first started, nearly everyone agreed the game was awesome except for the last 10 mins. Those last 10 mins have been hugely improved since then.

ME3 is an ok game. But saying "its one of the best games ever made" is a huge stretch.

Guys look, im NOT saying to agree with me, all im saying that yes, the endings sucked and there were flaws. All im asking is to be open minded, take another look at the game, notice everything they did right. Can 75 perfect scores really be wrong? Would you still be on the forums if this game was just a steaming pile of crap? no, you owulda moved on by now.

Yes, they can. 75 reviewers gave ME3 a perfect score. ME3 sales were in the 3 million range as I've heard. Not that argumentum ad populorum has any value to begin with.

For me ME3 is a mediocre tps. Which I wouldn't care about if it had been marketed as a tps although I do not consider it a particularly brilliant example of the genre (though I'm hardly an expert as I don't deliberately buy them anymore). The problem I have with it is that they "streamlined" so much I feel i paid £60+ for a crappy Z rated SF movie with occasional unbalanced shooting bits.

Bioware games live or die on the strength of the plot, the illusion of choice created and the characters - for me ME3 failed on all 3 counts leaving me with little left I actually like. Tucanka (of course), the Geth virtual mission, the crew conversations with each other and um the weight system.

Of course different people would be looking for different things from the game but I find it difficult to believe that many people would agree this buggy tps is one of the best games ever or even one of the best of the year.

OP,

theres a reason why i played ME1 over 40 times, why i played ME2 about 5 times, and why im done with ME3 after two attempts.

i think the reason is drew karpyshun left and bioware is somewhat incompetent. but thats just the opinion of little ole me.

As a stand-alone game it might be classified as 'decent'. As the third part of a trilogy, it not only falls flat on its face, but somehow manages to dig itself a massive hole that pulls in the first and second games as well. That alone disqualifies it from "one of the best games ever made".
EAs loving touches, such as required multiplayer, chopping parts of the story to sell as DLC, and of course the infamous Day 1 DLC, further distance it.
Mass Effect is supposed to be an RPG. Compare the amount of dialogue and quest choices in ME3 to either ME1 or ME2. ME1 is a particularly good example since there were multiple quests which could be completed any of a few ways. Or heck, compare ME3 to the Witcher, where certain choices completely change the path you're following! ME3, by contrast, is so railroaded it's not even funny.
Auto-dialogue. Just...auto-dialogue.
I will give credit where credit is due to some very good character writing. Ex: Garrus, Tali, Joker. However, that is heavily tempered by multiple characters who take complete 180s from their previous incarnations. Legion went from "the Geth will achieve their own future" to 'Reaper code is teh futorz!' TIM got a heavy beating with the stupid stick; going from a multidimensional character who was determined to promote humanity no matter the cost, to a cartoon villain attacking Shepard and the Alliance because...did he ever actually give us a reason, come to think on it? Ashley...about the only part of her original character Bioware retained was her love of poetry. Liara actually did retain her original ME1 characterization. Unfortunately, she'd received quite a bit of character development in ME2 and LotSB, and the reversion was never acknowledged, much less explained.

Shall I continue?

Baldurs gate is one of the best games ever made.

Planescape torment is one of the best games ever made.

Half-life is one of the best games ever made.

Ultima Online is one of the best games ever made.

MGS is one the best games ever made.

Zelda Ocarina of Time is one the best games ever made.

Chrono tiger is one of the best games ever made.

Hell even Mass effect 2 is considered such.

Mass effect 3?

BROUGHT NOTHING to the gaming world.

Mass Effect 2 doesn't even compare to ME3. Yet, everybody says it is.....why? Hmmm, probably because they "see" Shepard's pretty mug alive and kicking at the end. And that's about it.

It has some of the clunkiest controls I've ever seen. The plot is a glorified side story. The combat is repetitive and mediocre at best.

For whatever reason, people overlook these obvious flaws(big ones)....I'm starting to think it has to do with the endings.

Granted, I love ME2. I love the whole trilogy. But ME2 doesn't come close to the overall game quality that ME3 has. Not even in the same league. And I'm not going to delude myself of that fact.

Not because of an ending atleast

Absolutely never ever even close to being one of the best games ever. Redundancy for redundant emphasis. The only way it gets on that list is with enough money sent from EA to IGN. And we know how credible that is.

Best, probably not. However, all three of the Mass Effect games are among my favorite video games of all time. While it's very worthwhile to discuss entertainment with others and share thoughts, when it comes down to it, all that matters is the amount of enjoyment that you get out of something.

Nope the best game ever made is Ar Tonelico, and that is a fact. :P I'd probably rank Mass Effect 3 somewhere around 90-110 on my ranking of all RPGs I've beaten(currently at 202!).....actually maybe a little lower. Kind of hard to figure out where games rank after 25. >.>

No. Even ignoring the ending there are tons of better games. ME3 is no where near best game of all time. How anyone could think this is beyond me. Bioshock, Earthworm Jim, Fallout- all better series. All just named off the top of my head.

It was an excellent game. It did have flaws other than the beginning and end, but it also had some of the absolute best content of the ME series. The weapons system is better than ME2 by a long shot. CD system is still behind ME1 IMHO, but the talent system is clearly worlds ahead of both games. I have very mixed feelings about the armor system, but on the whole it's OK. Conversation and squad interaction are OK. In some cases better than ME2, in other cases worse.

A lot of level are fantastically well designed. Many of the sub-plots are top notch. The gameplay is generally loads of fun.

Despite the ending, I think it could have been an absolutely standout game if they had taken another 6-12 months with it. The pacing feels rushed towards the end of the game in general. Content feels somewhat limited. I'm absolutely perplexed by the conspicuous abscence of loyalty type missions. They were a lot of fun in ME2, provided varied playstyle, and were a great vehicle for interactive character development. Time is really the only reason I can think of that they were ommited, which was a shame. There are very few tangible rewards for exploration, and the galaxy feels much, much smaller and more restrictive than it does in ME1 or ME2.

I tend to blame the game's flaws (other than the horrific endings) on pressure exerted by EA on Bioware to get the product to market more quickly, which is a shame.

I think it's fair to say that ME3 has the most potential out of any game in the ME series, but it also feels like it falls the farthest from that potential at release.

Wow. My thread about the game being overhyped gets locked down yet this one remains.

I believe ME3 is a great game, and a strong contender for GOTY2012, but it has some unforgivable details that make it fall down the list for best game ever. Autodialog, crappy side quests / quest log system, rushed and lacking ending (mitigated somehow by EC DLC)... some details like the photoshopped Tali face are things that will always remain in my memory for a game that could have been the best, but will be remembered just as "very good".

Still, a game I don't regret one single penny I paid for, but it lacks just the nudge of greatness to make it a game to define an era of gaming, such as other franchises like Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy or Metal Gear did in other times.
