I'll admit some of them could have been done better, but we're not comparing them to KotOR and Jade Empire; we're comparing them to ME3. And ME3's sidequests are probably the worst BioWare's ever done in a game. Heck... they even copy-pasted the much maligned fetch-quests from DA2, for God sakes! About the only one that was even remotely close to decent I can remember was Aria's one, because at least that had some variation and choice within it.
If you're comparing crap to crap, then there's not really not much of an argument. Sure, I could argue that Twilight is a better film than Battlefield Earth, but at the end of the day it's still a terrible film. Likewise with Mass Effect's side quests which are lacking in depth and focus on quanity over quality. It's actually kind of funny that you're criticizing ME3 for copy and paste when pretty much every side quest in ME1 had the player rolling through the same exact environments ad infinitum.
At the end of the day, I don't want side-quests which are merely "better than ME3". I want side-quests which are actually decent, something which all three games are lacking in, loyalty missions aside.

so why wouldnt bioware steal from the good aspects of its previously made games like sidequests from jade empire instead of sidequests from DA2?
Because apparently they wanted to try something new with ME1 via planet exploration, but it failed completely.

Umm....drugs are bad. Drugs are bad mmkay?
Look i'll say this much, ME3 could've been one of the best games ever made, if they didn't screw it up. And as we all know, they screwed it up cataclysmically.

It was atmospheric and made the universe feel vast, epic and both empty and full. It made me feel I could just go out into the void and be part of the whole universe and not just be dragged along on a linear story confined by a set narrative.
Personally, I think this speaks to ME1's failings more than anything else, for the simple reason that I had no desire to go out into the void. The game failed to provide a compelling reason in order to go completely out of my way.
Providing the player with a sense of scale is ultimately more important than actually making a million different planets to explore. Star Wars films provided a perfect example: instead of drowning the viewer in a million different locations, it takes the less is more approach.

The lore, universe and characters could compete for a "best" of all time spot. The rushed and lazy game play and story however has no hope.

Even when ignoring the endings, there are still mulitple flaws/issues with it. Take the Rachni mission for example and how unrewarding it is for players who spared the Rachni Queen. Characters from previous games not returning into the third game, only to be replaced by newer characters with popular voice actors. The Journal sucks. N7 Missions are just tours of multiplayer maps. Potential Conversations reduced to easedropping fetch quest on the Citadel. Lack of vehicular missions. War assets not making much of a difference. On the multiplayer side, weekly balance changes that can be a hit or miss, and character class issues that still haven't been addressed. So much missed potential that could have made this the best addition to the trilogy.
Now theres no arguement that Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are two of the best games ever made.

Gameplay is miles better than in the first two. As for the story, well, keyword is: indoctrination.

ETA:Anger and hate have nothing to do with that. But there are soooo many games that are better than ME3, that it seems that you may just have a poor gaming experience claiming "the best". It is a good mediocre game, something that I would've given a good C+.see above comment where i repsonded to the laughing youtube video. I cant say you guys are bias, cuz im being bias in staing this opinion, but you are being narrow minded. letting your anger with the endings and small flaws affect your judgement, causing you to ignore waht they did RIGHT. But think about it this way, would you still be on the forums if this game was just a pos?
As for us, "hater", being here, I can only speak for myself, but discussing ME3 is actually much more fun than playing it. And I am not a heppy bunny about that, believe me.
Hate and anger have everything to do with that. Most of the negativism towards ME3 come from emotional answer. ME3 is an amazing game (not one of the best, but I consider the entire trilogy one of the best things ever done on the game industry, just my opinion though), full of things that are even better than in previous games, but most of the people miss this great moments, blinded by their mourning over the game they expected (and Bioware told they would give us), but never came out.
I can enjoy the game because I can isolate my expectations. I can say "okay, Bioware loose their chance to reach epicness, and ME3 is not the game they told it would be, now let put aside their deceptive marketing and my previous expectations, and judge the game for what it is". I can diverge from emotional answers and look at the things they did. Then I can see the details, the variables changing the game in every playthrough, the things they got right, and the most important, how unique this game is. When was the last time a third game remembered all your decisions from the two previous games in a franchise? Answer: never. This is amazing, unique, and enough to give this game all the love he deserve.
It's a shame that they didn't had the courage tor each the real potential their initial idea had, 7 years ago, but it's impressive that they carried to do that, a Trilogy where all you do is remembered though the entire 3 games, and I wonder when someone will have the guts to do it again.
