After my Mass Effect 3 depression, I found The Last Story for the Wii... Just finished that game... I can safely declare this is one of my Best Games of 2012. If you're a fan of JRPGs and liked the old Final Fantasies (there's a 1 to 6, 9, 10, 12ish vibe, nothing to do with the recent games), I suggest you get a bunch of batteries, this game and play it until the end. Pretty good story telling (although cliché, yet likeable) with a new game plus mode with harder bosses. ^^

Also, this was made by Hinorobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasies) and the OST was realized by Nobuo Uematsu (worked for Sakaguchi to make most of FF's sound tracks). Just playing this game reminds me a lot of their early works.

Heck... I feel like I'm going to go replay it riiiiight now.

Edit: It feels like a retro FF to me since it was made by FFs creator and the same lead musician, but the gameplay does feel different. It's like the best of both worlds. The game has a cover system (similar to Mass Effects), you even have a crossbow, but I use the swords mostly.  You don't really have to bother about items since there's no items. You have 5 Life Points (you also have HPs, don't worry!) each battles, if you expire them by reviving your  characters, they're considered K.O. for that battle and revive after that. It requires some quick thinking for low levels but as you go along, you can use your skills to turn the battles to your advantage. The main character has a skill you can combine with mages spells to spread the effects farther. Some of them even give boosts to your team mates.

As for choices, most of them are straight foward to the plot. If you choose the wrong choices though, it leads to humoristic skits or thoughts. Nothing bad, but a nice change from the same guy who made Final Fantasies.

Oh for goodness sake, is this a Japanese thing? Releasing all your games on different platforms to try and get people to spend a load of money. It's something that bothers me about Final Fantasy and the Tales series too.

They released Lost Odyssey on the Xbox360 along with Blue Dragon. I'm crossing my fingers so they make their next game on PS3. Anyways, the way they're selling games, I guess they're going to make their next game multi-platform. Can't tell yet if this will be on PC though... They're not well known to make PC games... *shrugs* I hope I didn't come off as rude... Good news is for the people who are planning to get a Wii U, it's retro compatible with Wii games.

I have Lost Odyssey, and I really love that game, probably my favourite JRPG. I was looking forward to something new from Mistwalker. Too bad I won't be able to get this new one though. Can't really afford to get every console under the sun and expensive games. *Sigh*

It really is a shame though, this game is cheaper than what we usually purchase for the XBOX and PS3. Without forgetting that it has no DLC. Makes the deal even better! I hope they keep that trend for most of the Wii U games. I'm not sure I'll be getting the Wii U, though...

Apparently, Wii U games will be priced at 59.99, so 10$ more than Wii games.

Agree that The Last Story is a good game. I'll probably replay it on Dolphin when I have a good enough PC to make it run at a decent speed in HD. I think the characters are what I enjoyed the most. They were a bit cliché, but they didn't quite feel like the standard JRPG fare, which was refreshing after going through Xenoblade.

Not that Xenoblade is a bad game. It's pretty good, but the character design was stuff we've seen too much of already.

I'm kinda envious of people who own Xenoblade Chronicles. I don't have a Gamestop around my city and the nearest one is like three hours from here, if we drive there. Plus the game is already out of stock so I'm out of luck. At least I found The Last Story on Wal-Mart shelves.

Well, I'm sold! I miss pre-XI Final Fantasy.

For new game +, you carry over all the items, gold, levels, equipped items, dyes for your armours and accessories (you can customize your characters like that), skills. Monsters levels don't reset, but all the boss fights are harder since their levels have been augmented for the challenge. You must redo all the sidequests and all, but the game should be easy with the upgraded items that carried over and etc.

Thats a game I'd really like to get into, heard nothing but good things! But my copy of Xenoblade remains shelved as my Wii refuses to have anything to do with it, & I'm worried it will deny me this gem too.

You could always invest in a Wii U when it comes out, no? Well, I know not everyone wants a Wii U, but at least you can play wii games on it.

Xenoblade killed my Wii's drive right before the end of the game. True story. Luckily the good folks in the homebrew community have come up with alternative ways of playing your games on your Wii.

Hardest part was finding a PC DVD-Drive that was compatible with Rawdump/Friidump. Certainly couldn't create images directly from my Wii, since the drive can't read any discs anymore.

Pretty nice to be able to run games off a USB drive though. Don't have to endure the annoying noise the Wii drive makes when it's reading discs.

Edit:
If your Wii's warranty is still valid, you might be able to get it fixed too. Maybe.

Done a bunch of sidequests today. There's a system that allows you invest money in items, buy them cheap, sell them for better prices later in the game. It's quite easy to make easy that way for those who are patient.

You don't really need to though. Some dungeons can be repeated, and you'll get loot each time from renewing chests. I never invested, and I was never really short on money. The few times I managed to deplete my wallet, I just went to the arena and quickly earned some money and experience.

I know that Tower of Trials is good spot in new game plus to grind for Particles of the Outsider which sell a bunch for each. I'm not there yet, so I'm just using other stuff meanwhile.
