While trying to get my achievement by recruiting Loghain, I came upon an interesting option. I managed to marry Alistair off to Anora and recruit Loghain and Alistair instead of leaving (he still leaves the party) is pouting in the castle.
Not sure if he will stay all the way after the archdemon - but I haven't heard of this option yet. Anyone went down this route yet?

You have to 'harden' him by going through his personal quest.

Well, before the Landsmeet I got both Anora and Alistair to agree to marry. Alistair is hardened and at 100% friendly. Then I chose Loghain. Not sure if there's more to it.
I just wonder if what's the alternate ending to Alistair drunk in Orlais. I mean if say Loghain lives, Alistair will have to face his most hated enemy every other day? WIll he plot against him hmmm...

I think the endings for the hardened Alistair and Loghain remain the same; there's no alternative version. Loghain only lives a few more years, and I suppose his work as a Recruiter for the Grey Wardens keeps him far away from Denerim most of the time, and out of Alistair's way. But Alistair isn't at all pleased with the PC in the epilogue if Loghain survives the last fight.

I don't think that ending is all that rare. I think that's how my second game ended, or maybe my third. Loghain lives in both, well, past the Landsmeet. In one Alistair gets drunk and runs away. In another he is married to Anora. I think the one where Alistair ran off to get drunk is the one where I allowed Loghain to sacrifice himself, better him than me. Not sure now, though, could have been that I had Loghain do the Dark Ritual that time. I did make him sleep with Morrigan for punishment of his crimes.
