We need a better assault rifle!

The only problem ARs have is their weight, meaning that they aren't for caster classes. Which makes sense. That's the whole reason for the weight system in the first place. If you want an AR, be prepared to take a hit in your powers' cooldown. Or you can just pick a pistol/SMG instead.

This is where people tell you the saber is one of the most underrated weapons, OP.
high damage, staggers, amazing precision, high ammo count, good for close range hipfire so you dont need two guns, it is great from long, medium, and short range. also its unique rate of fire allows for massive power spam between shots.
except that since they took off headshot bonuses on large enemies, it loses that damage bonus and now sucks (like sniper rifles) against large enemies. There's seriously just a big web of problems here, any one of them could make this complaint obsolete, but none of them have been fixed and bioware seems to like it that way. Thus this complaint is still completely valid.

I disagree, the whole problem with ARS is the fact that they were adapted in me3 to be for caster classes.
This isn't only about lack of good ARs, but the fact that soldiers lost their unique and vital ability of assault rifles, which are now underpowered, due to being underweight, to match the power-based classes so that they can use them, and that all of the overweight guns are so slow that they're suicidel to use on any level above silver.

this.
It would also be awesome to play without a gun, and have +100% dmg & cooldown on biotics and techs, when you actually do that. Heck, give me even +50% and i will be damn happy.

The most well balanced assault rifle in the game.

Typhoon is good and not suited for casters.
Particle rifle can be deadly in right circumstances.
Saber is amazing not only against small mobs.

Okay, but the lack of ammo is a huge issue for the class (soldiers) that need a gun like that the most, so.... yeah.
and honestly I don't even freaking care if it's heavier than the typhoon, but they need a good assault rifle with decent damage that doesn't leave you sitting out of cover for fifteen seconds to shoot it and actually do significant damage with it. (examples: Striker, Typhoon, PPR, Revenant)
That would still be the Harrier. The fact that you don't like the ammo problems doesn't somehow negate its' existence as the gun that you're claiming that you want to have.
The Revenant also has no ramp up time, so if you can control the recoil it pumps out fairly solid damage.
Even the Mattock does really good damage. It can match the Harrier shot for shot, but it fires a bit slower(or a lot depending on how fast you can click).
and once you do have the PPR charged up(which only takes 2 seconds), it's a death machine.

And I counter-disagree, since I often use the Revenant, Saber, Striker or Harrier on Gold/Platinum, and I more often than not have a teammate using a Particle Rifle on those difficulties. I just don't put them on my Adepts/Engineers who are heavily power-focused. Instead, I put them on Krogan, Batarians, Turians and other weapon/melee based classes who can afford that cooldown hit.
The lighter-weight ARs are just fodder you earn before getting the *good* ARs. Just like every other weapon type has.

PPR. This is just a great gun. Take AP and ammo for it, it's good on any non-caster class.
The Cerberus Harrier is hands down the best AR for anyone but the destroyer. It's great on my QME. Just use your ammo consumables and know where the ammo crates are.
The Typhoon is perfect for any class that does not focus on recharge.
The missing AR's are:
The Argus: A heavier version of the avenger, but it's another 3 shot AR
The Valkyrie: I want this so bad, but it is heavy as hell.
The Adas: Again, I really want this weapon, even if it looks like a novelty sex toy.
The Chakram launcher: Sadly this won't be added in since it's a promo for another game.

I was hoping they would give us swords as a weapon (before the release) but was disappointed when I heard from demo-ers that we wouldn't be getting those...

Harrier is excellent even with low ammo problem. Now you can use your 255 ammo packs.
Right, and when you run out of them by wave 3, what then? Running back to the ammo crates gets tiresome and dangerous.

so... You see 6-7 serious pros for the gun, then use boss headshot removal ( which affects every gun) as the end-all rebuttal for why the gun "sucks"?
all i can say is "lol"

And nearly all of those players are either the Destroyer, or a different class. We still lack the right gun for the Soldier. Honestly, the typhoon was that for a while, but after the nerf, it's too dangerous to use for the amount of damage it does.
When you say Soldier, are you meaning specifically the base Human Soldier, or the Soldier class in general?
All of the above besides the turian soldier and the destroyer, which have significant powers and damage bonuses.
lol, The Human Soldier is an incredibly good sniper. Use him with a Black Widow and activate Ar once you blow through the entire clip.
The Batarian is great at holding positions. You already start with a shotgun built in so an AR and sniper rifle seriously improve his game.
The Krogan is meant for melee, SMGs and shotguns. He's hard to use but he's incredibly deadly in the right hands.
The Turian with an Indra easily destroys most enemies and even has good DPS against armor.
The Destroyer syndergizes well with the Revenant and does an incredible amount of damage with his melee when enemies close in.
The Vorcha... is a weaker version of its Sentinel counterpart but that's one out of 6. If you're whining about soldiers then you aren't using them right.

The GPR needs an EB and AP mod but then it's able to lay down sustained fire over long distances. It may be full auto but it's not meant for CQC.
The Vindicator is again, not meant for CQC. Post-buff it's usable as a lightweight rifle for casters who should be fighting at a distance anyway with a few exceptions.
The Pheaston is a solid weapon that may not have many strengths but it lacks weaknesses as well. It's good in almost any situation with any class.
The Mattock has some of the highest DPS in the game. Again, it's not meant for CQC but it's VERY good at mid-to long range.
The Revenant doesn't synergize well with many classes and should be confined to the Human Soldier, Turian Soldier, Krogan Sentinel, Demolisher, Batarian Soldier and Destroyer... but those classes really make it shine. It's a support weapon. Use it for suppressive fire and to weaken bosses and only fire it from cover and in QCQ. It's seriously one of the best guns in the game.
The Falcon works well with cryo ammo since it'll free or chill anything around it. Use it on a class with Incinerate, Carnage or Inferno Grenade.
The Striker is meant for Turians. Use it on one and you'll see why it's good at handling crowds.
The Saber is probably one of the best guns in the game. It needs to be used from cover to be accurate but otherwise it's one of the best guns in the game. You're just trying to run and gun with it and then blame the gun instead of yourself.
The Harrier has some of the highest DPS in the game. If you can't find an ammo crate and don't feel like carrying a second weapon, then that's your problem.
I still lack the Typhoon and Particle Rifle but odds are, they aren't that bad. And OP, if you're having trouble with ARs, then you might want to switch to Shotguns and SMGs since they're better for players who want to run and gun.

Actually it is a modified mattock. You can even see it on its design. The valkyrie is a modified avenger (suprisingly)
On topic: We need an AR thats automatic, with a medium rate of fire, good ammunition reserves, moderate accuracy (as in 90% accurate in medium range), is a rare weapon, an ok weight (casters are not supposed to use guns extensively, so this weapon should be light enough for them to use but still heavy enough to make casters be a little bit more uncertain if they should take this gun), good damage (somewhere in between the harrier and the avenger). Clip size should be 30 rounds.
