DA2 Art Style is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen - why all the hate?

Honestly, I loved the armor designs in DA2. The environments didnt look bad, just sparse. People are comparing apples to telephones... Yes, Witcher 2 looked amazing, but its in a completely different style. Kingdoms of Amalur is a better comparison. Amalur is a dream situation for what DA3 should look like in scale and detail in the environments. The character models need to be done by someone who knows how to model in 3D. The hands were atrocious and the textures on the skin of the models were terrible too. Other than that, I had no major problems with the art.

The artwork and concept of Kirkwall was fine:

But when it appeared in the actual game the city just looked empty and dull:

Compare this to cities from other games:

Or even a city from dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age 2 had one city, and that was where you spent 90% of the game, and somehow they didn't manage to make it look as good as cities in other games with multiple cities and locations. In Guild wars 2 I can spend literally hours exploring a single city and marevelling at all the small details. If you try to explore Kirkwall and see all the small details you are faced with this:

Yeah, this is pretty much the final nail in the coffin for DA2. Well done.

Guild Wars 2? Any canton of Vivec City in Morrowind was far more interesting than the whole Kirkwall.

ho hum quite the useless examples, Orzammar at the least was the most boring, even less life than Kirkwall, cant imagine you love to stay there through the whole game. Redcliffe was probably the best out of all of the areas.

everyone should quite comparing game's graphics cause if everyone used the same damn engine how much fun would that be. can you imagine it? Mario using the same graphics as Skyrim? companies have there own style and engine they wish to use, cause even after 4 or so playthroughs Origins became very bland in the graphics department.

as far as Morrowind goes it way way more cartoony than DA2 is and DA2 isnt even cartoony.

As much as I agree the Darkspawn suffered greatly, I think the elves in DA2 took a greater hit. They are hideous now.

For instance, I can't imagine being able to believe the City Elf origin in DAO if elves looked like they did in DA2. They're supposed to be attractive, but instead look like anorexic morons half-bred with horses in DA2.

 Well, since we're comparing cities...

Funny how everyone seems to have forgotten about Denerim :S  Now I know a lot more areas and effort were consacrated to Kirkwall than Denerim, but the way Denerim was designed felt just like an average low middle age / renaissance city. As "brown and dirty" as Kirkwall is, I think visually it's much better city.

I can't believe the DA:O nostalgia squad actually prefer the art and design of Denerim to Kirkwall.

hopefully im right and im thinking you meant DA2 visuals are better, because again Origins had its appeal like a few playthroughs but DA2, in my eyes, maintain its visuals(yes even the repeated ones). but i have to say they both work in their own game, they both have different areas in which they will look different, not just based on engine and artstyle, my guess if DA2 used Origins artstyle, honestly i think it would really bad
