I really don't understand what all these debates are about. Project Eternity will be the best thing for gaming... fact.

Anyways, congratulations to Obsidian for getting a great concept out on Kickstarter!

Does anyone know where this game will be sold?

For now, Steam has been  cited and confirmed.  But there's so much fan rumbling for it to be sold on Gog.com too,  so don't be surprized if Obsidian accepts them as an outlet eventually.  And of course, if you donate $65 bucks they;ll mail you the boxed version.  That's the route I took.  Nothing gets the Nostalgia flowing faster  than  the UPS guy  delivering a good old fashioned Game box to your door!

I'm not so sure.  The "awesome button, cinematic, arcadish-style" folks might overlap somewhat with the BG/BG2/Planescape folks, but I think they're mostly two different blocks of consumers.

And judging that DA2 sold almost 2 times worse than DA:O that block of call of duty folks will not help BioWare.

15 september 2012 shall no longer be known as an other day, but as the day when RPG fans declared in one voice we will not go quietly into the night, we will not vanish with out a fight, were going to live on, were going to survive, today we celebrate Project Eternity.

$1,117,465 hell yeah!
BioWare called us a vocal minority, those who hated arcadeness, jRPG and AWESOME BUTTON RPG. Well, looks like vocal minority managed to gather a million $ to support a game they wanted.
To add salt to the injury - that money could be with BioWare, should they not turn to Call of Duty crowd and turn Origins into abominable Dragon Age 2.
Now, looks like BioWare will have some competition in the future.

Less then 30.000 backers so far isn't exactly stellar you know. Yes there was 1 million gathered but I don't think it will matter all that much from Bioware's perspective and personally I am not surprised about the numbers they've gotten so far. When I first heard of it myself I was very eager to back it but when they announced the gameplay I said no.

Don't me wrong, I do think this will be much higher quality then any of the trash Bioware has made in the least 5 years, including DA:O, but I do not think you can expect a huge impact on the industry.

Now games like TW2 and Dark Souls each selling over 2 million, well now THAT has an impact.

Project Eternity will be the best thing for gaming... fact.

Gaming? As in general gaming? That's a bit overzealous as I see it.

Unfortunately for BioWare, they've just entered a bigger, more competitive market where they're not the king anymore, because the near-entirety of video gaming is composed out of "awesome button, cinematic, arcadish-style" products. Competing with other, bigger awesome buttons can't be easy right now, but I do wish them luck.

I for one like both, I liked DA2 and I love what Obsidian produces.

I was considering giving to this, but after Avellone shot his mouth off in the interview about how he was tired of an entire section of gamers, I'll hold off.

One good life. An extraordinary life. What levy must be paid for such a thing?  If the gods won't answer, it's for us to decide.

Which one are you talking about?  If you're talking about saying he's tired of making games that caters to consoles, that's a techincal problem that makes it more difficult to use more features on the PC.

Avellone did NOT say he was tired of an entire section of gamers.   But Consoles..  And even then, he didn't say he  was tired of consoles, just  programming stuff for them, due to limitations, both artistic and technical.  And to steer away any misunderstanding he immediately cited a laundry list of examples  of stuff he's been wishing to do in specific games but couldn't due to Console limitations.

If you expected cinematics and full VO from a kickstarter project then you were fooling yourself, the cost of those is too great.

Cinematics and VO have to do with the story. I dislike the isometric, real-time "tactical" combat with the pause function that they are going to use.

Is it going to be DA:O style? or further up (higher)?

2d or 3d? Where can I get this info? I only saw a video on the kickstarter page.

Probably the same. As for 2d or 3d, probably 3d, I think it's reasonable to expect 3d.

Slimgrin: If you think I'm going to quit promoting the idea that the combination of action game with stat heavy gameplay is superior to just stat heavy gameplay then you have something else coming.

It's going to be exactly like Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale. If you haven't played those: it's goint to be kind of like the DA:O far out and above camera on PC, but closer, if they go to the same zoom levels as BG or PS:T. And obviously with a higher level of detail.

GameBanshee claims that the graphics will be pre-rendered in 3D and saved to a 2D background image like in BG and PS:T. I think the character models will be fully rendered in 3D though, as that's what a number of other KickStarters and Indies have done.

I really doubt it's going to be "exactly" like them. That's just marketing.

But--pre-rendered in 3d and saved to a 2d background--huh? Not sure what you mean. Can you give an example? Like Magicka?
