Not a snow ball's chance in hell.
Since he HATES romance side quests.
Games Avellone's worked on with romances/romantic encounters:
Planescape: Torment
Knights of the Old Republic 2
Neverwinter Nights 2
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Alpha Protocol
That said, I would certainly welcome the absence of romances personally. But just having Avellone work on it doesn't guarantee anything.

You could romance Safiya?

As a stand-alone romance, I don't think Safiya's romance worked. But the interesting thing was that it resonated with the main story, and it mirrored you as Akachi and Safiya as the Founder. Which was a wonderfully sorta creepy overtone to it all... Was Safiya in love with your character, or was it the Founder's love for Akachi "resonating".
I liked Annah as a character and I liked the little romantic stuff in there but I would be hard pressed to call that a romance. It's like... what, one or two interactions and it doesn't really go anywhere.

I think that's the whole point - it doesn't have to go somewhere to be effective. Small doses of romantic undertones can work well to build an emotional connection to the characters, add flavor to the dialogue and options for drama, but venturing beyond that will usually result in something goofy and distracting.

And it was one of those traditional, old fashioned type romances too. She even takes you home to meet her mom (Of course, mom was a 500 year old lich who was responsible for afflicting you with the spirit eater curse in the first place, but lets forget about that for now lol) I actually liked that romance a lot because of its cerebral, almost nerdy quality. The game presented her as this genius. A college professor of magic. But often times you could chip away at her academic mind when she tried to get too 'smart'
For example:
You: Do you know anything about a cure for my curse?
Safiya: Actually.... No. From all the stories I've heard, the affliction is rather fatal.
You: As opposed to slightly fatal?
Safiya: HA! Oops! Did I just say that? (Influence gain: +10)

Ah, Totally missed that. Of course, after dealing with Elanee's BS from the original game, my enthusiasm for NWN romances waned considerably. Her and Wynne need to get fireballed on sight.

So far the character design has looked awfully bland. But i guess it's hard to make unique outfits when a forum collective actually want said outfits to be as unremarkable as possible.
All I want is for the characters to look and dress in a believable way for who and what they are, in the context of the game's world. And yeah, personally I do favour what you call "bland" when it comes to armour and outfits in a fantasy setting with a slightly more realistic touch, at least for combat orientated characters who value practicality over theatrics. Also 'unique' looks and outfits are fine and all, but in a game that actually offers the possibility of changing what a character is wearing it has limits. Somebody who puts on a generic leather armour will probably look at least slightly similar to another leather armour wearing person. I vastly prefer this approach to ending up with situations like in DA2, where every mage was forced to run around being easily recognizable as a mage all the time.
God, I'm way too tired right now. What I wanna say is: one man's 'bland' is another man's 'realistic'. There will be more... colourful characters in PE, I'm sure, but for the overall direction I very much like what I'm seeing. I would be surprised -and probably not positively- if this were the first character designs for a new Final Fantasy game. Those tend to and need to be more 'unique' as in flashy and extravagant imo.

I've seen the designs, and they look decent imo. Keep in mind they aren't the final draft, and character models will be tiny in this game so it's the environment that will play a bigger role, aesthetically speaking. At least they aren't going this route:

Edair is supposed to look like nothing out of the ordinary. If they had iconic looks, his wouldn't change at all.

One was carrying a whip and the other a musket. The first one was a polar ranger dwarf. I have no idea what you're talking about. If you want something cartoony/ goofy, there are certainly plenty of options.Gibb_Shepard wrote...

Speaking of muskets, I'm hoping they can actually meld in gunpowder into a fantasy setting so that it smoothly fits w/ respect to crunch and fluff. I can't think of many examples where guns were anything more than exotic curiosities which didn't break the mechanics. It's cool that they're trying but I can't imagine it is going to be easy.
"Black powder firearms are of the single-shot wheellock variety. Largely considered complex curiosities, these weapons are not employed extensively by military forces. Their long reload times are considered a liability in battles against foes that are too monstrous to drop with a single volley, foes that fly or move at high speed, and foes that have the power of invisibility. Despite this, some individuals do employ firearms for one specific purpose: close range penetration of the arcane veil, a standard magical defense employed by wizards. The arcane veil is powerful, but it does not react well to the high-velocity projectiles generated by arquebuses and handguns. As a result, more wizards who previously relied on the veil and similar abjurations have turned to traditional armor for additional defense. "

If I wanted to wear tacky armor and jump around like I was in cheesy anime, I would play DA2.

It sounds like they're doing a good job by making them an anti-spellcaster weapon. Early firearms weren't much good against plate, they were slow, could misfire, etc. I imagine they'll implement such things for balance.Joy Divison wrote...
