I guess I won't be donating since it's Steam exclusive. Developers need to stop doing this.
I'd be surprised if they don't release a DRM free version. Steam is just the only definite atm, is the impression I got.

Actually, Jozape, Ouya project was about helping to get the console on the market, not about kickstarting a development. Just saying.
I admittedly didn't look at it too much, as consoles aren't my thing. It's still weird seeing any console with such a low funding goal for any stage at all.

Many, many people have asked for DRM-free copy, me included. A hour or so after a launch, Obsidian wrote in Questions section that they're looking into other distribution options. I understand your stance, I was torn about it too & still hope they'll add it.slimgrin wrote...

I've just quoted this from the Kotaku article and I'm feeling confused regarding character creation and customisation. I won't fund a Kickstarter rpg with character creation that doesn't allow choice of gender. I wish they would clarify this on the Kickstarter page as I can't get the Obsidian forums to load to see if choice of gender has been raised. This is a game with soul. "So there are a few things—we want the player to be able to build their own character, and we want the player to be able to evolve and grow. And this growth wouldn't be limited to the first game, but would continue into subsequent titles as well. The story and world is built around the concept of magic and power tied to a character's soul, and the player's soul and the souls of his companions are... special."
Does anyone know the answer, please?

It won't stay just Steam. They'll learn. Kickstarter corrects PC game developers. It's be Mac-OS compatible and, I almost guarantee it, Linux compatible in the end as well.
Plus, at $65, you get a physical boxed copy.

I find it funny that this has a higher funding goal than OUYA, which is supposed to be a game console.
Of course, Project Eternity won't get as much money as OUYA. But it's hard to imagine a game console requiring less funds than an RPG with a mid-sized team.
You have to remember though, the Ouya is basically a android based smartphone with a controller. It's using cheap plentiful parts that aren't terribly powerful. I think people's expectations for the Ouya are unrealistically high, I don't think people realize that it isn't "Next gen" console equivalent nor is it PC equivalent.
That said, I think the Ouya is a good sign to the Industry that they need to change directions, and it's my hope that this Kickstarter reaffirms that.
Also...Pledged!

There is no definitive answer at the moment but I would be very, very surprised if they didn't include a female gender option.
I hope so. I'm not prepared to make the assumption though and just back it. Wasteland 2 and Dead State were both clear on choice of gender in character creation from the beginning of those projects. Deciding to back those projects became easy because they provided lots of information.

You can always throw them a question on twitter if you have one, and it doesn't take long to make one if you don't have one. @ChrisAvellone @Obsidian @jesawyer
Of course, I'm sure they're getting a ridiculous amount of spam right now, so I wouldn't expect an answer right away.

Previous successful projects certainly ended that way. Even Republique, originally a game exclusively for iPhone/iPad, managed to integrate DRM-free PC support.MerinTB wrote...

Hmm, I don't know about the isometric-only camera. Why not just make it like NWN2 where you could choose? I don't understand why they would go backwards. I like to play RPGs from a zoomed out 3rd person perspective (MMO-style).
I cannot disagree hard enough about isometric-only being a step backwards. Secondly, NWN2 was fully 3D, Project: Eternity will be 2D Isometric, or at least "2D Isometric"-like. Apples to Oranges.

Probably a few different reasons. Aside from this really seemingly being somewhat of a "tribute" to the older style of games, locking your camera down like that saves you the trouble of having to provide support for complete camera control. I tend to enjoy "free cameras" as well but they draw with them a lot of extra work. Cameras are hard to do well and the more you free it up, the more you invite additional problems, more QA for it, and more complaining from people.
Also, I think it's easier from an art standpoint as well because you can focus more of your visual design since you won't be able to view an object from each possible camera angle, you can concentrate on making something look good from whatever perspective you're going for.

Maybe because its a kickstarter project and therefore funding is kind of limited.

Well, I understand the concern, but getting hung up on an innocent pronoun is just being pedantic and paranoid, especially given a team of developers that has always offered a female option in character creation (aside from Alpha Protocol, but that was more of a set protagonist akin to DE:HR and The Witcher (2)).kirvingtwo wrote...

If it helps, the kickstarter page had this:
You’ll create your own character and collect
companions along the way – taking him or her not just through this story, but,
with your continued support, through future adventures.
So I'd assume yes on gender options?
Anyways, super excited for this.

More info would have been nice since they're asking for money. As it is, seems like another standard fantasy game, and we have enough of those. I say that with only an hour of Alpha Protocol beneath my belt though, so I can't really comment on Obsidian's writing or game mechanics.
Well, some of the people involved made games like Planescape: Torment and Arcanum, neither of which could be called "standard fantasy" so if that's what you're worried about you needn't be, I suspect this will be a very unique experience.
Plus it's gonna be isometric which will be different then modern games like Skyrim and Dragon Age.

Once I get my hands on some it's absolutely going to Obsidian though; so happy!
