But hell, I can live with RtwP (hopefully it has rounds and the ability to auto-pause at the end of each characters round, at least)
I'm still behind these guys all the way though. Eying that boxed copy.

Hell yes. Continuing my character from BG into BG2 & ToB was great. We want the central character to be one that players will hopefully not just play through Project Eternity with, but into sequels as well.
There is hope, don't give up just yet. In the gamebanshee interview they say that they hope to add Mac and Linux version depending on how successful themayrabgood wrote...
But if they did make it for OSX I would probably get it eventhough I've never played a game on a computer.
kickstarter campaign is.

Why on earth do these devs not have higher tier digital only packeges? From a AAA big house published game, I expect physical goodies. For something I'm prefunding, I want the money to go into the game, not trinkets and DVD's that will collect dust.
I understand it is important for some people, and they should have the option, but to say in an interview that big publishers can't make games like this because they are set up to ship millions of boxed copies/retail channels what have you- and can't handle smaller, more focused projects like this and force the physical goods is somewhat mind boggling.
Secondly is the purely iso veiw. Don't get me wrong, I love those old games, but I also have gotten used to zooming in and looking at the enviroment in 3d, all the dirt and grime on my characters-what have you. But I guess on a shoe string budget (and yes, 1.1 mil is pretty shoestring for a game like this) you have to make compromises. I can live with that as long as the art is smooth, high def, overall well done and not some god forsaken 'stylized' type.
Third, I've gotten used to full processional VO's.....but again, on this kind of budget-probably not an option. As long as the first few lines are VO'd to set the tone-I can live with that.
On the plus side, it's going to be a RPG by RPG vets that should know better then to fall into what I half-jokingly refer to as the (cinicraptic experience). That's not totally fair, but you get my point.
Looks promising, very little detail though....What engine are they using, not the bloody infinity engine eh?

Lets talk again in October, and then ask if $4-5 million is enough to make a game as rich and engrossing (and visually beautiful) as the Baldurs Gate series.

Hmm, I don't know about the isometric-only camera. Why not just make it like NWN2 where you could choose? I don't understand why they would go backwards. I like to play RPGs from a zoomed out 3rd person perspective (MMO-style).
If they end up going with a 2D prerendered backdrop, adjusting the camera angle just won't be possible.

If they're making an entirely new IP, I doubt they'd go with a 2D backdrop. My guess is it would be something similar to how Wasteland 2 is looking. If it were an enhanced edition of previous work, a 2d prerendered background would be plausible.
I'm not sure why a new IP would or would not affect whether or not they were to go with a 3D backdrop or a 2D one.
I do believe it'll be a 3D engine because in many ways development has become a lot more efficient on them, but at the same time they have said it will be very similar to the Infinity Engine games. So even if I doubt they'd go away from 3D, it is possible.

Well it won't always. But then neither does the "pre-order on launch day" model.slimgrin wrote...
They need to deliver first. This Kick Starter model is very new. We'll know in a few years if it's truly effective.
edit- If you're just against the Kickstarter idea, wait to buy the game until after it's finished and there are reviews out. Me, I think that for a project like Wasteland 2 and this, fans who love a kind of game and legendary developers who want to make it but otherwise couldn't- and getting a game for as low as $15- that's a pretty good gig.

This game and Wasteland 2 are games I'd likely buy super early, so I have less issue contributing.

Which has actually been a pretty effective model. Galactic Civilizations 1 and 2 were developed that way, I believe Mount & Blade was as well. Kickstarter just simplifies the model.
The developer hashes out what he needs to make the game, then puts it up. If there's sufficient interest, it happens. If not, no worries about having accepted some money but not enough to make it happen.
It actually has alot of potential. Imagine EA kickstarting a real Ultima sequel, or a real Starflight sequel. If it gets funded, EA's team is paid for, and anything it sells is pure profit. If it doesn't, EA didn't lose anything except the relatively small investment in the pitch video.
The whole model could reduce the amount of risk "Niche" and innovative ideas would normally incur, and let them gauge the potential of a new IP without a mega-investment. It's an enourmous Industry changing model where risk can be mitigated up front, with virtually no real risk in the investment. So long as it's delivered on budget, it means there's absolutely no downside. The worst scenario is that the team was paid for a year or so, and every copy sold is in the profit column.

Not that you are being serious, but that is the benefit of a company like Obsidian using Kickstarter. They are not a group of unheard of nobodies who have nothing to lose. These are industry veterans and professionals who have built a reputation. They aren't going to risk their reputations, their careers and their brand on some shiesty cash-out.
