Lastnight, I was playing with my favorite character, Asari Adept. I was using only the acolyte on her and I thought it would be nice if the Acolyte were able to be charged while in cover.

As opposed to having to stand up and charge the weapon ( While exposing ourselves to enemy fire ). Its a light weapon and takes down sheilds/barriers quikly ( catered for casters ) ~ So it seems that characters using this would have very low defenses.

I do realize that all weapons in the game that need to be charged, place you out of cover when doing so  ~ though I feel this one can be an exception ( would probably have to be changed in a patch )

How do you guys use the Acolyte? :wizard:

try getting close to a corner and poking the gun through the corner while still being protected by the corner and you can shoot through the wall without being shot. This is easy to master and has saved me the trouble of being exposed while using my acolyte.B)

I use it to prop doors open, or fix tables with wonky legs.

Im still practicing with the angles and what not ( Im sooooo much better with grenades and bouncing them off walls ), But you can get it through walls? The only place I've been able to do this is on the ridge on Firebase Condor,  are there other places?

. It's surprisingly helpful. I never liked it because of its charge time, and the "bounce" has led to a lot of embarassing moments; but I use it on occasion for crowd control and taking down barriers (Phantoms) and Guardians.

haha yeah, Ive just been getting used to the charge time and since I play really fast, It was hard to wait at first ~ though now I use this weapon primarily  and I actually saved my team a couple of times last night :lol:

I use it on the characters with pull because acolyte+pull+reave = dead shielded enemy. They have either Hurricane or Hornet to deal with armor and for situations in which you have to stay behind low cover (like hacks).I use it on the Fury too, but mostly to strip shields from bosses.
I tried it on the poor FQE but it turned out to be really baaaaaad, she doesn't have powers that synergize well with that weapon. Never used it on the AA but I guess you'll have to say goodbye to low cover if you do.

Interesting thing I was taught the other night. On Firebase Glacier, fire multiple shots from the Acolyte into a spawn area that's contained (alcove on FB Glacier on the main floor is a great example). Do this at the beginning of the wave while they're still spawning; once the enemies come out of that room, they're guaranteed to have lowered shields and barriers. It was really helpful against Cerberus and I didn't have to use any of my grenades.

Oh it wasn't me who used it. My friend who was using a Geth Infiltrator with an Acolyte X and Piranha X. He'd keep firing into an empty room and the enemy would spawn one and one. After he dished out enough damage he'd charge inside with a Piranha. We were on Platinum, Firebase Glacier.

At first the tactic confused me and I was like "Why are you wasting ammo? They haven't spawned yet" and that's when he told me about his neat little idea.

I was using the Male Quarian Engineer with Arc Grenade and Incinerate.

***

I need to equip the Adaptive War Amp more. I normally rely on consumable equipments to power up powers, melee, and weapons.

It's an amazing gun, and one of the best for Platinum because of it's massive DPS versus Shields. Not to mention, it stuns.

The no charge in cover does make is a bit hairy to use from cover, but if you charge it up and just poke your head around walls for a split second to fire, it works great that way. I rarely take full cover on my characters using an Acolyte. It is still useable from cover, but you have to watch and make sure everything is aggroing a friend before you do the long pop up, charge, and fire.

And still Acolyte shot + Pull/Singularity is still one of the best combos in the game for anything unarmored. Insta-prime for a biotic explosion.

The Acolyte is a great sidearm on many characters, especially those who have trouble dealing with shields / barriers.

I was so happy when they came out with the gun. I personally use the Acolyte by constantly clicking it while following my teammates around. I find this heightens their stress levels, making them sharper players who want to finish the game as quickly as possible. This is what is meant by "support role."

I used to use the Missile Launcher for this quite effectively, but the damned missile glitchers had to ruin that for me.

He's probably referring to right hand advantage (common tactic in 3rd person shooters).

Since your character holds his/her gun on the right side of his/her body, if you are standing behind a wall on the left side of your screen, and the enemy is on the other side of that wall to your right, it is possible to shoot that enemy yet the enemy cannot shoot you back (enemy bullets will hit the wall instead of you) if you are close enough to the wall. In PvP games like Gears of War, it allows you to see an enemy player on the other side of the wall, where that player cannot see you making it easy to ambush said player.

In spectator mode, it looks like you are shooting through the wall, but you're really not. You'll see the better players doing this with the Typhoon and the Particle Rifle.

Sorry we hijacked your thread with Pyramid Quotes, unintentional ; but my conversation with Kazumasoju should also provide you with a different way of looking at the Acolyte (ie it can be a mini mini mini mini grenade launcher for taking care of multiple barriers and shields).  Also, I charge the Acolyte as I'm running from cover to cover, I'm not sure if you're already doing this so I'm mentioning it now. I'd normally have the trigger held to charge the gun as I'm springting across the field. It really helps in case you  run into a spawn group as you turn the corner. :pinched:

Yeah, I always have it charged  I just wanna go easy on my fingers haha :pinched:

Yes I was referring to that. Another very good thing to note is that after being charged the acolyte can be discharged during any power use.
