There you go. Final Fantasy XIV, showing us how sexualizing men is really done.

After that lurid display of male sexualization, I find myself doubting my own orientation. Good work.

I love games, I think they can be art and I recognize that many adults play games. Still, games have an attached connotation of being designed for children, and inherently childish. I also think that the people who buy games are stereotyped as childish. But again, this is because there is a large number of people who do display the stereotypical behavior. Frankly, I think games are too closely associated with youth.

I think a lot of what we are seeing in the game industry are byproducts of targeting a demographic of children and young adults. Problems like obnoxious behavior, entitlement and piracy, I believe are all symptoms of targeting a demographic of 13-35 year olds. Many of whom are unemployed children, or adult-children hybrids, who have little understanding or appreciation for hard work, earning money or basic dignity. Until the game industry and publishers willingly and deliberately stop targeting 13-35 year olds as their primary demographic, I don't think we're going to see games and game culture stop being inherently childish.

I think we've established that...to some degree. And your solution?

There are treatments, but the industry doesn't have a cure. It's a part of video game history that won't be going away. Not completely. However, I'm not necessarily labelling childish games as 'wrong'. I enjoyed, and enjoy mario games... but most of those I won't be buying. LittleBigPlanet was childish, and I loved it.

I think you're lying - perhaps I hit a little closer to home than you liked?

Either way, have fun with your anti-male... err, I mean "feminist" campaign.

Anyways, Greengoron89 - I'm sorry, but not all guys share your opinion. Because we're men. not boys. and we don't feel threatened by these discussions, because we know these discussions need to happen for positive change to happen.

You say that I'm lying. And I'm saying that you feel super insecure about sharing your all boys club. Hate to break it to you, but we don't want your kind in our space. You should've gotten over the All Girls Are Made of Cooties when you were 11. But instead you changed the argument from All Girls are Made of Cooties to All Feminists Are Evil And Angry And UNWANTED HERE.

Unfortunately, you fail to realize that you still sound like an 11 year old.

As a straight guy, I love being able to play videogames with women. And the way to do that is only if they are in a comfortable environment where they can state their opinions and not be verbally attacked by a bunch of boys who feel like everything is peachy and those women's opinions are invalid - since their language is A) Too aggressive B) Too whiny C) Unfriendly D) The list goes on and on until Women Just Can't Win No Matter What They Say.
So, maybe you should re-evaluate a few things instead of accusing me of lying just to make yourself feel even more valid about acting like an 11 year old.
I'll stay over here, with my gf and our awesome lady gamer friends as we keep talking about these issues. And you can hang out with the boys club and talk about how silly we are for bringing up these discussions.
One of us is going to go far for being able to get along with oh.... fifty percent of our population. The other is going to sit in front of his computer and feel super powerful about cutting down feminists on a gaming forum to validate their privilege and continue to do so since they just are unable to feel powerful otherwise.

As such, I'm done with this conversation and I'm going to let my gf get her work done.

Oh check that out. She just high-fived me. Booyah.

You know the funny part.
i'm more likely to believe greengoron has a GF and hangs out with girls more than you.
Because you tout it like "HEY GUYS HEY GUYS I HAVE GIRLFRIEND AND PLAY GAMES WITH GIRLS LOOK AT ME I'M SO PROGRESSIVE"

Let's please try to keep personal attacks out of the topic. If you wish to say that to each other, please put it in PMs instead of here.
Thanks.

LOL. I don't know what kind of "lady gamers" you hang out with, friend, but I'm willing to bet most lady gamers would think you're a complete buffoon, and likely feel the same about the political claptrap you've been pandering for several pages now.

You've probably got it all wrong about your friends AND girlfriend (assuming they really exist), as well - you think pretending to be a kind, sensitive, and caring man will score you brownie points (and hopefully reward sex) with them, but I'll bet they think you're a complete buffoon (but like keeping you around because you're a "nice guy").

That, or you're a liar like I originally said - either way, you're a riot to read and respond to. :D

Not to mention how he constantly brings up his gf like "hey she thinks i'm right so neener neener"  Its all very amusing because I can totally see him making it all up to try and sound smarter than he is.
Its the internet buddy saying you high fived your girlfriend proves nothing.  Because we cant see it it sounds like your pandering to try and sound like a feminist.
Thats cool guess whose a real femenist?  Joss Whedon.  The man gives women power in his shows / movies / comics.  He said himself "I am incapable of not having a kick ass female lead in my stories"  Saying you hang out with chicks and respect them is meaningless because that should be standard.

And in the end, this discussion only seems to support the belief that modern feminists are crazy and pissed at men...

Seriously, what's the problem? This notion that not enough women are in the gaming industry? Miranda's ass?

Well, only on the BSN. Other game sites reflect more maturity on these topics.

Why are video games considered childish?

Start a "no romance" thread on the BSN and that will show you why.

That's a great solution. Do you have one that is actually possible?

While I work on procuring actual moderator status for this specific forum, I'd encourage people to stop posting in this thread.

I am not pleased.

It's possible with certain developers, yes. And it's important that gamers keep demanding it. Not demanding political correctness, but integrity in the writing, a degree of maturity, and consistent/logical treatment of characters.

Cultures change all the time. Are you under the impression that current American culture is the same as it was in the 1970s, 1950s, or 1930s?
