what if you had to meet some requirements of some companions in order to have them follow you to certain events/quest?? I dont just mean "earn" them as companions rather than make them do things that are out of their character or follow you to quests that conflict their interests or have them in the same party with another companion they despise eg ...
I totally hate how companions follow you everywhere without using their common sense and bioware has already given signs of this logic in a rather smaller scale (romances in mass effect 2, da2 ending  stuff like that)
Imagine how much that would increase replaybility??taking certain desicions that prevent you from having certain companions do what you want in some key quest (not leave you for good) that shape the story with different variables depending on the companions you take..im just wild guessing here but id like a more dynamic involvement of companions into the story (kinda like isabella in act 2 but more frequently)
thoughts?

DA2 did this quite a bit, actually. Sebastian won't follow you into the Fade. Isabela runs away witht he tome (and potentially comes back). Companions turn on you in the Fade and at the ending. Anders can leave the party for good in Act 2. There are also quests where you must have certain companions present.

I do get what you're saying though. I wondered at how the captain of the city guard could find the time to venture all the way to Chateau Haine, for instance. It seemed like abandoning her post. On the other hand, we as players often get attached to companions and want the ones we like to be available as much as possible. I know there has been a lot of outcry after MotA because Tallis takes up a party slot and thus you couldn't bring everyone you might want to.

So there needs to be a balance. If there's a big crucial decision that a companion would object to, by all means let them walk away. But I still think the majority of quests should be open to most companions. Replayability comes from mixing up your party and seeing what different companions will do or say in each quest.

I agree
Companions shouldn't blindly follow you.
