I have a few areas where the player is completely under water while they traverse sections of waterlogged tunnels. I have some bubble placeables and a water plane overhead to try and help create the effect of being underwater, but was thinking, if there was a visual_effect that could be applied to the player ... one that looked like water being displaced by movement (walking), that would really make it look realistic.
Is anyone aware of a custom effect that minics the displacement of water around a person while walking underwater?

I don't know of any such visual effect. It would be interesting, I'm just not sure how it would be believably accomplished.
I don't think displaced water would actually be visible if completely under water...kind of like how displaced air isn't really visible above the water. You can see water moved where the air and water meet though.
Edit:
Unless you have a layer of salt water under a layer of fresh water, like in some of those caves in Mexico. It's the different densities that would make the water displacement visible.

You would see things move in the water, but not the water itself. So if the floor was muck, and the player was stepping in the muck the muck would swirl up and follow the player in an oscilating wave pattern.

Yeah AD, after posting - then thinking about it a bit more - I started wondering myself just what I would see if I was totally underwater and thought - well - I wouldn't see the water would I ? I had to conclude that it wasn't really a well thought out concept - too much sun here I think
Though... henesua, that's not a bad idea and that would give the feeling of a more *watery* movement I think. Plus it would be believable in a flooded underground tunnel.
Thanks for the comments - much appreciated.
