Orlais is not on the coast at all, so.
According to the map in my Asunder book, western Orlais borders the Waking Sea, so it's possible they have some ships. Unless I'm completely reading it wrong, which is entirely possible.

You are absolutely right. It was I who remembered it wrong.

Oh you I like
Anyway I think Bodahn and Sandal are given. They seem to be anywhere the next prominent person in Thedas is. Voiced PC and dialogue wheel are pretty much a given as well. Orlais of course. Mages vs Templars have to be in there. Multiplayer is a maybe. A good maybe though, I think. The Grey Wardens and their secret goings on, I hope. The list can go on and on but what I'm really hoping doesn't come in DA3 is disapointment.

Story: Stop the templar/mage war by gaining supporters
Location: Orlais + maybe Tevinter
Characters: Sandal, Bodahn, Leliana, Flemeth, Cullen, Cassandra
Features: Voiced protagonist, dialogue wheel, fast paced combat, no race selection, no playable character background
One thing I see as a occuring problem: Since we are changing the protagonist every major release while having such "iconic" characters who seem to get implemented in every title like Sandal or Flemeth, how many times should we be acting like we don't know who they are?
Sure, our character probably does not know who Flemeth is, but I'm as a player are aware she's not just some random witch.
Thus I'm curious how BioWare introduce those characters a third time.

Bare minimum of three companions with a tragic past.
Something horrible happening to at least one member of the PC's family.
The PC having to decide the fate of at least one companion (probably an LI) near the end of the game.
A fight with a dragon, or multiple dragons, or something that shapeshifts into a dragon.
And I have to agree with iakus: At least one trek into the Fade and into the Deep Roads. But I'll add: at least one visit to a Dalish clan, a Circle Tower, a Chantry, and with Grey Wardens.

I agree with yours and Morrigan I would bet are going to play a part in DA3. I hope they follow the DAL character line up. I like Shale

10 Companions
Warriors: Stroud (Grey Warden), Cassandra (Justinia's Seekers), Iron Bull (Tal'Vashoth), Cullen (Templar)
Rogues: Sera (Elven Rogue), Cole (Dude from Awakening), Rogue #3
Mages: Dorian (Tevinter Mage--male despite the name), Mage #2, Mage #3.
4 or 6 Romances
Cassandra, Sera, Cullen, Male #2, which isn't Cole.
Day 1 DLC
Probably Iron Bull's recruitment quest.
Multiple Approaches to Completing Particular Quests
In Mark of the Assassin, you could go full combat or take a stealthy approach. I expect they'll expand upon that. We also see something similar in Guild Wars 2 which often has a choice you can make which determine how you'll achieve some objective.
One Specialization per Character
Specializations are likely more than just a new set of spells to use. Perhaps they'll offer new conversation options and perhaps even quest content.
No Origins
The game could take place right before a catastrophic event killing Chantry leadership, meaning it will start "too late" in the character's life to show an origin.
Race Selection?
If the lead character is an Exarch, odds are he/she's a human. Though not necessarily. An elf or dwarf presumably could have been granted an Origins-style boon. Not sure how realistic it would be for an elf or dwarf in Orlais to be in such a position.
Returning Characters
Alistair, Anora, Loghain (depending on Import)
Leliana (regardless of DAO fate)
Morrigan, Flemeth (cause you can't keep a witch down)
Emerging Characters (like Isabela and Merrill in DA2)
Stroud, Cassandra
Introducing
Justinia, Empress Celene and Aurelius Titus
Things In
Bowstrings, Polearms.
Things Out
Horses, Cloaks.

2. A happily married couple who ends tragically.
3. At least one orphan.
4. Cheese.
5. A dialogue option that absolutely does not match the actual response.
6. A dazzling display of lights that crashes most PC's and possibly consoles.
7. At least one unhappy ending.
8. A returning character (companion, NPC or cameo) will be whacked with the ugly stick.
9. Horses will still be strangely absent. If they actually do get shown, they will be unrideable.
10. One quest will be deemed by the fanbase to be overly tedious and annoying.

I'll have to wait for Bioware to say what's in or out for this game, if races are not an option and forced to be part of an organization is up again then I give up, because I don't think this is a game for me.
I think having a choice to join 1 or more group/organization is OK or even if you want to destroy say group or organization* ( * a la Skyrim) thats OK, but forced to be in one and go agaisnt of what that organization represent .. is not OK, is like making a mockery of it or making the so called "Hero" a traitor to say organization.
but maybe I'm the only one who cares about lore and s...t like that... am I right? meh
I like choices and I see NONE in this "guessing lists", funny thing is, I thought DA was for the players and choices, I guess that was left out.. again? or they are probably talking about others type of choices.. wich ones I wonder?
1)playing as a human and only human!
2) been a Seeker and Only a Seeker! But! there is MORE! you can be a MAGE SEEKER!....
Choices every were!!!..... Art. MEH.
Maybe Da4 is where the players will have one if any of a choice? meh. Cant wait to read about it!
I do hope multiplayers gives something in return to this company, don't be suprise if people starts to wonder ( for the second time) where are the races choices? isn't this a fantasy game? why I can't play as ....*? ( *name one of the races that's not available for the player") meh
you know what?...I think I'll stick around a bit longer.. to have a laugh.
