Do most people know that Mac Walters wrote Garrus in ME1 and ME2?

Mac Walters is almost universally reviled here on BSN. Although it's easy to paint him as the scapegoat for the endings, I find it odd that a lot of people dismiss his writing abilities altogether. He was responsible for Garrus, one of the most popular characters, in ME1 and ME2. He wasn't involved in ME3 Garrus, and to be frank, I thought he was a bit boring in ME3. In any case, I think people shouldn't be so quick to judge everything Mac Walters has done as bad. While he may not be a good plot writer and made huge blunders in the ending, there are aspects of his writing that are good, such as character writing.

EDIT: Some people have pointed out that Walters didn't write ME2 Garrus. Well, I'm simply going by this interview with Mac Walters.

http://popwatch.ew.c...-3-mac-walters/

Walters: "Having written Garrus in the first game, that’s a character I’ve always followed. I wrote him as well in the second game, but then handed him off in Mass Effect 3."

yes.

Being a good character writer =/= being a good plot writer.

Yes, old news is old.

I respect him as a character writer.

Wouldn't know about his abilities as a plot writer since I have no idea what parts he actually wrote or was responsible for.

Oh yeah, I'm aware of that. I just feel many people are branding Walters as an incompetent writer in all aspects just because of the endings.

Your freezer is off because you're standing on the wire.

ANYWAYS

Yeah, some people bash him a little much. I hate the RGB and all the plot garbage it spawned too, but I love the hell out of the Mars mission and first Citadel visit.

I honestly blame Hudson more for the endings than Walters. If what Weekes said is true, it sounds like the ending was more Casey's idea than Mac's. And even if it was Mac's, Casey should have had the brains to recognize a terrible ending for what it was and scrapped it. He's Project Director after all.

It also doesn't help Walter's case that his name is on the worst parts of ME3, namely the opening (Earth, Mars), the Citadel Coup, and the reviled ending.

Yea, he's actually a really good character writer. A lot of people forget that.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have quite as good a grasp on larger scale writing, overall plot and such. Wish Drew had remained on the project.

i feel like everyone goes straight to the ending for complaints. i felt alot of me3's plot was lacking, the main mission thessia and tachunka were great but then u have missions like the citadel where for some reason udina betrays us and we get kai leng...then theres earth.of course these things wouldve been forgiven if the endings were good

It's not.

Which means he's obviously not human.

Logic!

If a characters is seen as the protagonists bro or there bestest friend chances are that character will be very forgettable to me.

Also, you humans are all racists.
