Do most people know that Mac Walters wrote Garrus in ME1 and ME2?

To clarify, Mac was responsible for ME1 Garrus. In ME2 and ME3, Garrus was Patrick Weekes' baby; Mac had nothing to do with Garrus after ME1.
In any case. I do agree he's a decent character writer. Not quite so when it comes to story and large-scale narrative design, as is clearly evidenced by the games.
Nope. Weekes did the normandy convo for Garrus. everything else in ME2 was Mac.

I'm actually kind of curious about how the ME series would have been if the VS remained the deuteragonist.Random Jerkface wrote...
I'm pretty sure Sebo was referring to Tali and Garrus. I'd be inclined to agree, since the devs more or less confirmed it themselves. Playing ME1, it's fairly obvious Ash and Kaidan are the central characters.Dark_Caduceus wrote...

Tali and Garrus were ME1's shallowest characters, hence why they were written into ME2's squad.
Actually, I'd contend Ash and Kaidan were originally written as the tritagonists.
I'd say they were written into 2 for fan pandering reasons. The same with 3.
Probably not. The Virmire Choice was a central aspect to the first game and both characters were present from the start of the story. Tali was most likely included for fan pandering (along with that God awful romance).

I actually like the endings. And the plots of ME2 and ME3 .
Mass Effect 2 was a failed attempt to copy the dirty dozen. Just in space. Nothing original or good about it.

An alternate world where they aren't treated as second rate by the writers, sounds interesting.

ME1 Garrus was probably the worst-written character on the squad, honestly (and I say this as someone who romances him with all my FemSheps).
Except for Ashley and maybe Wrex, all the ME1 squadmates were much better-written in later ibstallments, actually.
Why so?

Failed copy? lol.
You know what? LotR was just a failed copy of the book. Just on screen.

It sucks, but that's how it is in books, movies and videogames and just about every other creative industry.

What if ME2 had been different? What If ME1 was designed better? and so on and so forth.
Granted I like Mac (and drew K despite some of my paast posts) but I think people are too quick to lay blame and not look at the good most have done (yes even Casey).
Was the ending great? No, but it takes far more than one stumble for me to hate on a guy (or a team) that brought me a great series as a whole. and frankly everyone is capable of a bad day or story
But to some its the destination not the journey so *shrug*

Bad day or story? They had how many years to at least create a somewhat sketchy guideline at best of what was going to be portrayed for the trilogy. I blame the development period, one more year and I'm positive that the game would of been glorious.

dirty dozen and me2 were more of a rip off of seven samurai, so while dirty dozen was good it was hardly orginal

TIM was my favorite character, Jerkface.
He had style like a Bond villain, cunning as Lex luthor and the brains of Prof. Moriarty.
Then he just degraded to.... MUAHAHAHAHAH.

Stick to what your good at sorry but its true if your good at writing Characters write Characters not Plots
I strongly disagree with this statement. I was good at riding my bike... I guess I should never have started driving a car.
Maybe he should have wrote a plot for another franchise though... not the 3rd and final installment to an epic like Mass Effect.

Agreed. Had they gotten another extension we would have had the glorious game we all wanted.
However, I can't imagine how much people would have whined over having to wait.

I'm going by this interview.

Walters: "Having written Garrus in the first game, that’s a character I’ve always followed. I wrote him as well in the second game, but then handed him off in Mass Effect 3."
