Last time I derailed my own thread!

What is Role Playing?  And how do you impliment it into a computer game?

To me Role Playing is simple.  A Sword and Shield guy, a Mage, Or an Archer!Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

The weather forecast foretold some heavy rain, strong winds and lots of color brown.

Give the player complete control over their character, to do what ever they want.

There needs to be make up in the next game!  I like eye shadow on women.   It breaks Immersion to not have Make-up!Posted ImagePosted Image

Long fingernails would be fun.  Not having long fingernails on my character breaks my Immersion.  Work on it Bioware.Posted Image

A blank slate would be preferable. I'm not a fan of pre-determined characters. I like to build my character from the ground up.

Role playing in terms of gaming is simple. It is what you percieve it to be.

In terms of head cannon? Yeah. But there still has to be certain elements in the game for it to be a RPG.

But there lies the problem. Gamers differ on those elements.

It also depends on what type of game you play as well? Role-playing in a game like Fallout 2 will be vastly differ from trying to role-play in Dragon Age II.

The real reason why it's difficult to say what's a RPG and what's not is becauese so many games today are borrowing heavily from the genre. Even FPS games have leveling systems now, as well as loot. One could say that if it follows the D&D ruleset it qualifies as a role-playing game and everything else isn't.

Many people would disagree with that statement. But in truth, it's the only way to maintain what is and what isn't a role-playing game.

But every role playing games does not follow the D & D ruleset. Such as Vampire the Masquerade (The World of Darkness), Crusaders of Khazen (Tunnels & Trolls) and King of Dragon Pass (Runequest). Even Wizardry and Ultima did not follow the D & D ruleset in its entirety. Also what version of the ruleset? The difference between 2.0 version and the newest version is huge.

Role playing in Bioware game? Blasphemy! It's all about voiced protagonists, witty dialogue options and something cool happening every time you press a button.

I would like there to be the basic roleplaying of good, bad, and something neutral like Treasure Hunter. It would make sense for these to have different ending depending on which dialogue choices on the wheel you choose.

Yes I assume there's going to be a dialogue wheel.
