Matter of fact: We don't know the numbers, so anything on this subject is pure speculation and are probably wrong :P

ME have a lot of players that never gave a d*mn about MP games, that play SP exclusively, that never felt compelled to spend time on endless MP matches. Most of this players ended up trying ME3 MP, most because it was necessary to reach a good EMS, and ended up liking it more than they thought they would. I think that this kind of player is a considerable percentage of the MP players, enough to keep it alive for a long time.

Why does this matter? Well, that kind of player is not looking forward for the next big MP release. I see a lot of people saying that the MP will die when a major MP release happen (Borderlands 2 is the most quoted now), but I really doubt that the majority of the ME3 MP players are people that spend a lot of time on MPs. For most of ME3 players, this MP is their first, possible their last.

I believe that most of this people will keep playing some matches between the SP games they are playing now, there won't be another MP to replace ME3 for them, and I believe it's a considerable amount of players. Consider too that most of the ME fans played ME1 and 2 several times, they got used to be always playing ME between other games. Well, without starting SP discussion, it's a fact that most of this players are dissapointed with ME3 SP, and they don't feel like playing it again. Unless they didn't cared about combat, and only played ME more than once exclusively because of the story, the MP is a good replacement if they want to keep playing as they used to with previous MEs.

So no, I don't believe that game X gonna kill ME3 MP, I believe "ME4" gonna kill ME3 MP.. Anybody that disagree gonna be eated alive. I'm a Krogan, you should be scared B)

There's always a die-hard set of core players. On top of that, you only need four people to get a game going. You will always be able to get a game going, guaranteed.

Here's the sad thing about MP die-hards... when(if) the next ME MP comes out, half the community will move over to the new one and be happy and half the community will either be too cheap to buy the new one or will buy it and then complain about every tiny change that was made, flooding the forums with negativity and ultimately going back to the first one. This has been my experience.  Luckily a new game will also bring in new players, many of whom will also become die-hards, and the cycle continues.

I agree, I don't think ME3 MP will die. Although I play a wide range of games, both SP and MP. I will be getting new games that are coming out. Yet I still see myself playing this game.

Bring on "ME4" :D

It's certainly possible that a core group will keep it going, but it needs to get continued updates or people will eventually lose interest.

I would consider myself a die-hard ME3 MP fan, but unfortunately I've stopped playing. Why? EA servers...

My personal opinion is that ME3 multiplayer is pretty much unique. And the Mass Effect universe is a well thought out and interesting one. People will be pointing to Black Ops 2 soon, but, as good as Treyarch are at programming MP (comparatively), Call of Duty does not have the same appeal as Mass Effect. This multiplayer is probably the best I have ever played. Great after-sales support through patches and good extra content (free). I dont play hardcore, but I play frequently. I aim to max my manifest one day, and I know i'll still be playing it next year.

Add to that the fact that there is a genuine learning curve, and skill involved. Better players do better and that's something I like. If i'm not coming first in a lobby then that's all on me. Other popular MP games just dont have that. I'll be playing borderlands and i'll be playing it a lot, but i aint gonna give up on mass Effect. I loved the franchise too much before ME3 even came out, and this multiplayer mode is the most delicious icing on the cake i've ever tasted :P (lol)

possible, but ME3 have a heavy experimental feeling, it's visible Bioware's inexperience with MPs. I think there's a big chance that they will repeat what they did between ME1 and ME2, doing a really good job on adressing issues from the first one. ME3 MP is full of flaws, but still it pleased the players, it's not hard to do something undoubtedly better than it on the next game, and draw everyone to it. I think hardly little chances will matter in front of the new things they could bring on a new MP..

into now, Bioware look interested on bringin this updates. We will see if they will keep the pace. They said there would be DLCs for as long as there's people playing it...

The matchmaker is what make me think twice before playing the MP. Sometimes I want to play it, then I think "it will take forever to get a full lobby", then I go play something else, but I'm playing some matches per week, and I have no intention to stop...

Well, I love ME3 MP, and I have noticed it being harder to find a match. I randomly run into the same people PUGing more often than before, meaning there is probably a smaller pool of players out there.

I'd love to believe this, but we have to be realistic. There are not that many die-hard ME fans compared to other players. Even within the die-hard ME fanbase, there are plenty with interests in other games.

This honestly may be the last game I play for a while. I'll always love gaming, but things change in life. I don't know if I'm just getting older, or if nothing is that appealing to me. I definitely won't be getting any of the games coming out anytime soon.

In any case, good to see a supportive and optimistic thread for a change.

I think I've gained a new appreciation for MP type games that I would have avoided before. That aside, though, I loved Borderlands, and I'm looking forward to Borderlands 2. It's not purely a multiplayer experience, and in terms of being fairly loot-based (admit it, why else would we hate the RNG?), having a leveling system with potentially diverse skill trees, and four man teams in a PVE, it fills a pretty similar niche as ME3, but (I suspect) with more diverse gameplay.

I don't think this game's MP will die completely, since many people plan to come back to it even while BL2 is out, but it'll take a significant loss. I suspect many will leave, and many will return with new ME3 DLC is release (both MP and SP, since I have trouble not choosing 'multiplayer' when I put the disc in). This forum is a fair number of people, though, so it's a decent sample size, and a lot of folks here intend to leave when BL2 comes out. You can't deny that the playerbase will probably take a hit.

To, you were pretty much describing me in your post. I finished me2 20 times, but me3 only once. I love the mp and will be playing it until there are nobody else on the servers. Me3 mp is the only mp game I've played.

It will take a hit, but it won't die. Most of the threads about it is of people saying the MP gonna definitely die when X game is released. They already come saying "so, we cremate or bury it?", like it's already dead.

I'm seeing a lot of new players in the lobbies, this must be counted too..

I kind of agree with you OP. Although I've played ME1 and 2 at least 6 times each (yeah yeah) I've only completed 1 playthrough in ME3. I'll get around to it I'm sure, and with the knowledge I got from hundreds of hours in MP, SP will be a breeze I'm sure.

The ME3 disc has lived in my xbox for the past few months. Only being replaced occasionally with the OTHER ME3 disc if I am playing SP.

Do you know the best way to keep ME3MP alive?

If Bioware announce a new ME in the works, and state that our manifests will confer a bonus in the new Multiplayer. Then people will keep playing until their manifests are full, and people will come back to the game to get their manifests up in time for the new game.

I'm not a MP player, but mass effect 3 kept me captivated for a long time with their MP. I only beat the single player once, was not a fan of the ending because it felt like a huge slap in the face to the fans. I understand "artistic integrity" but promises were made and broken, and fans don't usually appreciate that. With that being said those who say that borderlands is a "MP" game don't really understand it at all. Certainly it has co-op and alot of people will play that, but I personally beat the single player campaign of borderlands one twice, it was that much fun, even though I knew the ending sucked. Second game is said to be bigger and upwards to 60 hrs per playthrough depending on how many side missions one does. So that means that not only will those casual fans of ME MP will find something they want, but also the fans of SP experience. I don't think borderlands will kill ME MP, but it will certainly hurt it. At this point Bioware is keeping servers going becuase they are making money off micro transactions, but once this dries up so will the servers, if Bioware cannot make money off MP they will stop it, and fairly quickly.

This...
Except maybe only 10 times on me2.
I have bought the big titles through the years but only played sp. I didn't even start this mp till about  2 months after it was out. Havn't looked back since, my wife hates this game because I play too much.

Nice thread OP

What OP says is pretty much how the MP for Assassin's Creed is. AC Brotherhood was the first MP I'd ever played and I kept playing it until AC Revelations came out, despite playing plenty of games in between at the same time. Revelations is the same way, with AC3 right around the corner there are still tons of players. Mass Effect's first two games were also single player only, and it also wasn't until the third game that series fans were introduced to its multiplayer. I don't know what the timeline is for the next Mass Effect game, but this MP can easily last a full year, regardless of what comes out during that time.
