Mark Darrah says...

We are working on a new engine which we believe will allow us to deliver a more expansive world, better visuals, more reactivity to player choices, and more customization. At PAX East, we talked about armor and followers… Yeah, that kind of customization. We’ve started with Frostbite 2 from DICE as a foundation to accomplish this.

Yay

Edit: Read hoorayforicecream's Game Engine FAQ.

MODEDIT: Updated title.

Well, now that they actually have a engine that doesn't crap on itself if more than twenty (actual number may vary) people are on screen, I'm curious to see what they can pull off with it.

I'm gonna miss the Eclipse engine, it had this weird kinda charm to it but I'm pretty excited thinking about how amazing the DA world could look in the Frostbite engine.

Well that sounds great at least, sparse info, this is really a wait and see for me. Right now I think Obisidian has announced my RPG'ers wet dream with Project Eternity.

I really hope there's no save game import, I really don't want to replay DAII :(

No reason you can't download savegames in that eventuality.

There might even be a savegame creator released by the community, Gibbed did one for DAO saves.  But that's less certain, seeing as I don't know the guy or his plans.

Great news.

Can't wait to see what DA world looks like when recreated in Frostbite engine. Hopefully it won't be too long before we get some screenshots.

Hmm, I wonder if this means we have a higher or lower chance of ever seeing a toolkit. I know EA owns Frostbite 2, but I don't know if Bioware will continue to use third-party tools that would prevent the option of a toolkit. I am hopeful that this might increase the chances of a DA3 toolkit seeing the light of day.

Wonder how long its going to be before it actually comes out??

I just started another play through of DA Orgins to do the Noble Dwarf story line. This should be fun.

Hope its better than DA II though.

Would not mind going through Origins again. Just... DAII feels like doing the dishes.

I am guessing spring 2013, Bioware seems to like launching titles around March.

Wikipedia terms Frostbite 2 an FPS engine. While that's probably good for the combat lords, how will effect the rpg/storytelling aspects of the game?

Probably why it will be heavily modified. But hey it was also used in a Racing game so there's that.

I'm guessing they are modifying it to suit their specific needs, hence Darrah's indicating that Frostbite 2 is serving as a foundation for what they're doing.

This would be nice, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I too am sick of this generation of consoles and their limitations.
