Seems like a win-win scenario.
I'm certain there's an element of MP-viability that contributed to its choice, as well as resources (why create a new engine for it when an existing one does it well?). But I don't think either are relevant at this point.
Seems good.

Because if that's the case, i can hardly work up enthusiasm for a prospect of yet another round of DA2-like limited variety to both locations and characters in them... no matter how shiny the new engine is going to render it.

Frost or not, the quality of this game depends on how passionate these "developers" are on making this game.
Sadly they are all EA drones with no enthusiasm for their job, project, or life really.
See the damning evidence straight from the horse's mouth.
Every time another BSN user stands up for them by championing the mythical creative utopia BioWare used to be, they clap silently from their poorly lit desks as much as their chains will allow, until a watchful EA minder in a $4000 suit commands immigrant labor to beat them savagely for failing to work at maximum efficiency.

Wikipedia is incorrect.mousestalker wrote...
Wikipedia terms Frostbite 2 an FPS engine.
It won't.While that's probably good for the combat lords, how will effect the rpg/storytelling aspects of the game?

Lol, get a ****ing life. I don't even know how a person like you can enjoy anything. Clearly, this project is already doomed. This guy here, clearly has his finger on the pulse of what's going on up there.Upsettingshorts wrote...

I suspect this is the case.tmp7704 wrote...
Well, this news make me wonder if it means all game assets have to be re-created yet again.
The development time for DA 3 is already longer than that of DA 2, and it should get another year in the oven. I suspect you'll see far more variety in the number of locations and the characters in them.Because if that's the case, i can hardly work up enthusiasm for a prospect of yet another round of DA2-like limited variety to both locations and characters in them... no matter how shiny the new engine is going to render it.
It could go either way. Art assets != Engine.Direwolf0294 wrote...
Does this mean they'll be going back to more realistic visuals or will they still be using the cartoony/plasticy artstyle of DA2?
Then there's nothing to worry about.NKKKK wrote...

I really only have one thought in my head after hearing today that DA3 will be using the frostbite engine: I keep thinking back to a comment that Ray Muzyka made almost a year ago (last november to be precise.)darthnick427 wrote...
Frostbite engine? My god! DAIII is gonna look epic!
He said, and I quote: "The Next Dragon Age will have the most realistic beards you've ever seen in a video game." I thought he was just cracking some random light-hearted joke when he said that. But from a purely logical perspective, they could probably pull such a thing off with the Frostbite engine!
But I digress. I don't judge RPGs by their friggin graphics. Never did, Nor will I suddenly start acting like a little squeeing girl at a Justin Beiber concert when I hear Mark Darrah say, in a press release, that the next dragon age will have deep customization and choice-consequence. He has burned us before with that exact same claim.

So, after that excruciating 'Dragon Effect 2 - At the Speed of Blight', we will be getting a 'Dragonfield 3'... Well, kind of was to be expected. Can't let the FPS fanatics wait, now can you?I'll eventually grab it from the bargain bin. Might be worth the 5 bucks.
I was wondering what new dumb Dragon Age 3 would bring us. Looks like the first new dumb is "Frostbite 2 is an FPS engine only - because genre specific engines exist - and is a direct appeal to the FPS crowd."

When improvement's are not enough we must switch the tools. I don't know if it's for the best, but it will have to do. DICE has a story with FPP games so we will see how this engine can handle a TPP game. AND one more think back with the tactical camera!
Pretty sure BioWare Victory is using Frostbite 2 to make an RTS, which will have a less restricted camera - due to the nature of the game - than any BioWare game ever. So I wouldn't expect that any such camera limitations will be due to any kind of weakness in the engine, but a design decision.
After all, the free camera wasn't removed from DA2 because Eclipse could no longer handle it, but because it was intentionally removed.

The folks at kotaku thinks that this game is for the next generation of consoles but also says that DA3 will support character imports. How would those two work together?
I seem to remember one of the Bioware folks saying it would just be world state like DA2, not a character.
At any rate, I believe Suikoden did it from PS1/PS2, so it's not unknown (the PS1 memory cards could be used in a PS2). My five minutes of internet research says that you need an adapter from PS2 to PS3 (any PS1 games to import have to be on a PS2 card). Online transfer, perhaps?

I've not found any other game maker that can create a story that we can wrap ourselves into like reading a good book but with the bonus of living within that story and adding our own touches to affect certain outcomes, some we may or may not like but it is also true about any book you read and still be an awesome book.
