I'm pretty sure Ferelden was meant to have horses. They're mentioned a few times in conversation, in fact. Which made their absence even stranger.

Part of their absence was the idea of "If we have them in the game in any capacity, people will see the lack of ability to acquire one as a bigger issue."

EDIT: Even paintings of them made people think this! ;)

So were companion mounts ever considered as a possibility? I'm assuming you guys didn't do it because of AI and pathfinding issues.

They were considered, yes.

I didn't work on the team specifically so I don't know all the reasons why they weren't included.  I do know that mounts pretty much get explored in every one of our games (I know they were explored for the first concepts of Inquisition before DA2/Exodus first hand) and it's because of a variety of challenges that they tend to be a big rabbit hole.  I believe the party IS one aspect.

Err... why is the assumption that we would reveal anything today? We just put out something on Monday... did I miss a memo?

I think he does so (on other topics for example) to ensure things don't get too out of hand.

It's a sisyphean and largely fruitless endeavor, but nevertheless.

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

I haven't forgotten about Solas! I've been patiently waiting for his pic and quote since they started doing this. He's already one of my favorites!

He's coming, with an interview and everything. Not to worry. :)

Templar, this is not the thread for that discussion.

Either the discussion stops or you'll be removed from this thread.

Sensitive, aren't we.

From what I understand the concept that bisexuality isn't a real thing, or is often erased, or is seen as being greedy or just the lack of a choice being made, is not uncommon.

I'll admit it seems extreme to me as well, but I also am not subjected to the judgment and can't say if I would or wouldn't respond in kind if I had to endure similar comments the entirety of my life.

Hopefully David's clarification helped.

I think it has something to do with the playersexual/bisexual companions of DAII and that whole matter as well as how they said companions this time around are more believable or have strict sexualities.

It's come up a few times in the context of the term "playersexuality."  It's a bit unfortunate because it's come up even in my posts, and I think people have an inclination that if I am making a comment on it, it legitimizes it due to my implied authority as a member of the dev team.  Which isn't necessarily an unreasonable assumption.

As a result I try to be clearer when I am speaking entirely on my behalf.

From what I've read on other places people just seem to be using the 'biphobic' bit to look like they're in the right for being mad that they can't court him with a  self insert.

Some people may use the term in that way.  Most of the context that I have seen it used in (whether it be here, tumblr, or other places) is referring to characters like the DA2 companions as anything other than bisexual constitutes an erasure of bisexuality.  That someone isn't bisexual if they are only seen as in a relationship with a particular gender (which isn't true. Bisexuals can be monogamous).

In the case of the tweet, it seems like the term was applied in a similar way.  If someone already has the assumption that we're some level of biphobic, it seems as though they read David's tweet as being "fully gay" means "no longer the inferior bisexual."

A few others have expressed their reservations (and some have expressed their disagreement and support too) on these forums too.

Btw a question if you do not mind Allan, how long does writing a character with a companions' role take. I imagine many writers have to go through a phase in which they crumble up stacks of paper thinking that idea would not go well with the character.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure.  The writers are often doing secret stuff in their writers pit and then suddenly BAM.... a character!

I guess instead of feeling depressed with his fate he is making the best of it by just living his life with a bang instead of sitting in a hole?

When you say it like that, it's definitely what I would do.

It's a national holiday, though. There are parades. And fireworks. And drinking! And sometimes a combination of all three!

In Montreal it's Moving Day!

I tweeted Patrick and Allen Leech. Patrick may respond, he is pretty good about it usually. :)

Allen Leech is not the voice of Solas. Do not trust IMDB.

Perhaps a little too perfunctory.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I've been called worse things. It's something I believe strongly and which, judging by the response as well as previous instances of characters being whitewashed, others think as well.

So, *shrug*, say what you will, but I don't agree.

The artist might not have known Dorian was supposed to be a PoC? I didn't know until today reading this thread.

And that's fair!

Though I heard apparently the whole thing was 'trolling', which is kind of even sadder.

Given the 'make Isabella whiter' mod in DA2, it's something I'm a little twitchy about.

EDIT: Indian would be the closest real world analogue.

Since we are talking character's race analogues, what is Scribbles'?

If you don't know, Scribbles is our nickname for this lady:

Funny how no one seems uncomfortable with the 'make Alistair and Morrigan gay' mods.

That would be the difference between being the privileged class and the non-privileged class. Hetero protagonists are by FAR the majority, changing one so they're no longer heterosexual doesn't erase a rare example of an underprivileged group.

The same is not true the other way around.

And we are going dangerously off-topic, my fault. Back on to Twitter we go. How about those hedge mages.

No, not at all. It gets cold during the winter though.

I'm curious of your definition of hot. A week of permeating humid 30C here in Montreal definitely fits the bill.

Right now, it's 9:41 am and 39 out. The expected high is 44. It will be that way for another two months.

Alternatively, I haven't seen snow for the last four years.

Ha, I suspected you might be in a desert or something. I'll grant you Canadian summers are sub-par in the heat department in comparison. But we can range a difference of 150F over the year! (-50 to +100)

The red velvet cupcake from Flirt Cupcakes is called "Heartbreaker". We selected it as representation of "fan tears" for David Gaider. ;) Other flavors also had meaning, such as "Cookie Dough" for Sten, etc.

A group of us got together after all the Lady Inquisitor love at E3 and pooled resources to send BioWare cupcakes as thanks for all the female representation. :)

This was really nice of you and everyone else involved. I'm reading through the eight pages of letters right now, it's really touching to get this kind of feedback.

Thank you so much!

Well, there is also the fact that sooo many people have wanted to know her name, and there's so much speculation she's an LI... maybe Bioware wants to give the hype train time to reach the fandom station?

Mostly it's because she's not ready to show just yet.
