Also, once you watch the panel in its entirety, you realize that when they said 2 for 2 about a character frm Asunder, they were referring to having confirmed earlier in the panel that aa character from the Masked Empire would appear as well.

 

Surprise! Sometimes trying to overanalyze things with missing context may lead to wrong conclusions and misunderstandings.

Yeah, here every one was scrambling to get answers afraid it would close before we finished.  They must not have had enough entrants.  (I suppose that is kind of good for us and bad for everyone else. )

I am not sure if you are asking if it automatically equips or whether people do it.  You do not get Jory and Daveth's equipment if you leave it equipped, so a lot of people have the joining done in the buff.  Personally I do this for both Jory, and Daveth in DA:O, Mhairi in DA:O-A, and I strip the weapon from my sibling in DA2 to sell too.  Heartless but worth the coin.

I do on the Xbox 360 version. I usually start wearing Daveth's armor after the Joining. It feels a tad ghoulish.

I think I get Mhairi's armor as well.

Yes. I just did a recent playthrough, did not strip either of them, and post-Joining I had all of their equipment. I then went and sold it to the quartermaster before going to the meeting with Loghain and Cailan.

I can see it pretty, well, and I still can't tell what I'm looking it. It looks like it could be smoke or a rock formation... I can't really tell what sort of perspective I'm supposed to have.

I've lightened it up in photoshop and it looks like a number of different demons (or a mix of demons and monsters) and then obscured by a smoke layer.
