Marketing is what can make something sub-par into something that's a cash cow (think Chia Pet...pet rocks....) or something that's great into a loss (look at any number of good-to-excellently rated but under-performing movies).
Marketing is like customer service.
It's the 'face' of your company.
Sure, but it's mainly to generate hype and make the consumer audience aware of the product. What the Follower Fridays are doing is providing us hardcore fans with something to pass the time until either the next update or, now that we know about it, the release date.
My point it however that their actual marketing, i.e. the trailers have had a great response. You know what my friends saw this morning staring at their face on youtube and all over the internet, the new trailer. You know what they didn't see? Vivienne's Bio. So marketing is screwing up with the people around here for sure, they haven't even said that we can be a women or another race yet, but in a pure marketing sense they're doing fine.
Also my older post was more about the fact that the people we likely message (beyond maybe Mark Darrah and Mike Laidlaw) have no idea when the release of things are going to happen.

My brain exploded trying to process this.
For me the lack of commitment has taken the shine of what was a good week. I liked the info we had but the I don't care attitude has just killed all the good will they had built up.
Pretty much.
I mean, yeah the new trailer and information this week was nice, don't get me wrong. But it's not what was committed to deliver.
If there was an announcement earlier saying "Instead of FF, we're going to do something different this week. Here's a new gameplay trailer and a list of preorder bonuses instead" or "Sorry, but we got slammed with projects, Follower Friday has been delayed/cancelled this month" then okay. There's a reason for this, and you are treating your customers like adults.
But to simply blow off commitments, that shows disrespect, even in a relatively small way. And it's this kind of treatment that's contributed to the brouhaha over the last couple of games

Oh my god, they look glorious.
The sword reminds me of Beric Donderrion/Thoros of Myr ![]()
I'm going to play an elf and ride a halla and have the entire party I wanted. Everything is golden. ![]()

None, I'm a pole arms guy. - Give me a spear, throwing spear, halberd or spear-club and I'm good. And where is the hammer and the mace anyway?
And uh when did they actually show their "i don't care attitude" may I asked?
For DG's tweet, the man said the truth. He's a writer, not a member of a marketing team. Obviously this is something he has no control over. And if you got asked for a millionth time about things that you don't know / not allow to talk about / have no control over on your PERSONAL twitter account, I would say DG and BioWare team has been pretty nice and patient so far. If it was me, I would have freaked out and became a lot meaner, consider how much crying we have on BSN over small trivia things. Even the smallest things people can take it in a very negative way and start b*tching about it.
For all we know, this can be like the day before birthday, when your friend planned some surprise party and acted all quiet and distance to throw you off. And since they already drop a lot of info this week, I wouldn't mind if there's no more info coming for a while.
Remember, BioWare is nice enough to interact, answer, and talk with their fans. A lot of companies don't even care what their players think. So just keep calm, everything will come in good time.
None, I'm a pole arms guy. -
I prefer... swordplay myself
The sword speaks to me.
They look good, but they're not really the style I'd prefer for DA
On the other hand... hey look, a bow string!
(I think they were confirmed earlier, but I'd forgotten until now)

Sometimes I'm the same... one of the reasons a magic staff is nice is it can do double duty sometimes.
I hope that isn't representative of all the weapon classes in the game. My instinct tells me no, but it would be a shame if those beautiful Great Axes were Enemy-only... To say nothing of Maces, Hand-Axes, Warhammers. (All weapon classes we saw in PAXPRIME Demo, but alpha is alpha)
Still waiting for clarification about what you said about the genders btw:
"Until confirmation of at least being able to play
as a female is on that website, I won't be ordering.....it's heresay until that point, and open to being cut as far as I'm concerned."
Explain to me how this makes sense, since we have not only been told we will be able to, but IT'S BIOWARE.
I know it's Bioware, and I'm expecting there to be the ability to chose to play as a female. (It is Bioware afterall).
But until it's confirmed officially (like on the website)....I'm not pre-ordering.
It's a LAZY marketing decison not to include on the OFFICAL game website at least the words "Pick your race, play as a male or female, customize your apperance...." if they were not able at this point able to post screenshots or artworks of the female version of an Inquisitor. Makes me think the reason it's not included on the website yet is because no matter what they are saying in interviews, it's not fully nailed down yet. (unreasonable of me?.....probably).
And as an FYI for you, not everyone may be familiar with the Bioware track record of being able to select to play as a male or female....I know I wasn't when we first got DA:O as a Christmas gift, and I was meh about it until I saw the character creator and not only saw that I could pick gender, but race.
I also didn't know about Fem!Shep until the marketing push for picking a default female shepard pre-ME3.....if it hadn't been for that I wouldn't have bought the games. And again I was like "Huh, didn't know you could play a female commander shepard" I have now gone back and bought and played all the BW games I could get my hands on.
Coworker didn't know about it until she was asking about new games to play....I started discussing Mass Effect and DA....and told her "Ignore all the images on the websites, you can play as male or female in these games. And in DA:O you can even play as an Elf or Dwarf!." Her response to me was "I never would have picked these up if I hadn't known that....she's already bought and downloaded all the 5 games to start playing through this weekend.

No lollygagging.

No the not telling people it was cancelled was the not caring. The waiting around for hours for something that didn't show up was the not caring.

I don't like the Daggers :/ look .... clumsy to me. Also the design is a bit too .... complicated. I'd rather simple and practical design.
Still, looking good though
I wouldn't mind chopping dragon's head off with my flaming sword
The staff looks nice , a bit too shiny but whatever.
Since Vivienne is walking around with one of the best looking staff , the naked Andraste one , my Inquisitor will take the one with the dragon.

I bet there're are more dagger designs. In the new trailer you could see one.

Sounds to me like you're focusing way too much on gender in terms of judging a game.

I absolutely agree with you. I have friends who initially didn't want to play ME trilogy and DA series because they thought that they couldn't choose gender of their character. They just didn't want to play as generic white guy. And guess what, they were REALLY surprised that they could create whoever they wanted. So yes, it is incredibly important to put this info on the website because it's not obvious for everyone.
