Bioware really need to get on top of misinformation about "Nevarra and the Free Marches", since a whole bunch of reputable game sites are using that line now. They either haven't noticed Mike's clarification, or that message just isn't getting though.

If they print misinformation because they are too lazy to double check for confirmation they cannot be called reputable.

Considering the release date they stated, I'd say that in this case the journalists have more faults. We knew the game will be released in Fall since last year.

If they print misinformation because they are too lazy to double check for confirmation they cannot be called reputable.

 

Considering how many people here believed OXM's version of the story before Mike corrected it, I don't really blame them. DA having 5 regions including Nevarra and the Free Marches is now a Fact™ according to Games Journalism™, and that chain of rumours is going to be really hard to break.

 

OXM reported it, so it gets included in a summary of DA:I information on some other site, which the VG24/7 journalist turns to for sources. Some other website will see the VG24/7 report and assume it's true, and more and more people will believe that those two extra regions are in the game. 

 

It sucks that Bioware have to basically tell us (again) that the game isn't as geographically expansive as some people were thinking, but the longer this goes on the more this rumour will become an expectation, just because of how many websites and previews are cross-referencing bad information. One 'authoritative' magazine getting its quotes wrong has led to a bunch of other websites reporting the same false things, and it's hardly going to stop on its own.

 

(Kotaku had an excellent article this morning about how a fake CoD rumour ended up on Gamespot's frontpage - because website journalists increasingly favour speed over accuracy.)

What's worse is that there will be an inevitable outcry about "They promised us we could go to Navarra!  It was in OXM!  Bioware lied!" <le sigh>

Nah, that's more an indicator of stress level and "prayer circle so Murphy's law do not strike during the demo".
