Speaking of Last Supper comparisons, if the Inquisitor turns out to be a Christ analog I'm going to be >:|

Well it seems some people see you as some kind of savior send by the Maker , and you can play along.(or not)

Not sure how far you can take it , but I think it's pretty funny.

I mean I could roleplay a big vashoth who'd pretend he's Andraste reborn just for the lolz .( I doubt he'd find many followers but hey , I bet some npcs are going to be fascinated by the magical glowing hand)

That would be quite funny. :)

... and desperation.

They've said there's some kind of religious fervour created when we walk out of the Fade with a glowy hand, but that analogue/trope can easily be subverted. It wouldn't take much for that Christ-comparison to evaporate if we start running around terrorising villagers or whatever.

(... and I don't think Jesus was that skilled with a greatsword.)

Since the game is apparently about lots of player agency, I hardly think they'd mandate the Inquisitor to be any one thing, outside maybe some crucial plot elements.

Wouldn't female Inquisitors be more Jeanne d'arc then Christ though?

Andraste takes that too. Andraste is pretty much if Jesus and Joan were the same person.

Now I want to play a big, scary Vashoth who actually believes that he's Andraste reborn.

I for one hope they don't overplay the messianic overtones in DAI like they did with Shepard in Mass Effect.

I agree, though I think it'll be present (and that it makes more sense in DAI than ME).

Hm, I can't really see them adjusting the role of the protagonist (or their historical inspiration) based on gender. Race, maybe, but not gender. Bioware's games post-ME2 have treated the two characters virtually the same outside of romances, and I couldn't imagine that changing much.

If the Inquisitor really is meant to be ThedasJesus, then that would apply to both genders of that character.

As a non-Christian, I'm not too disturbed by a Christ-like trope in the game, especially as for the most part this narrative framework existed in myths far older than Christianity. What I find more disturbing is the inclusion of real-life Christian symbols, especially in "good" spells, like healing.

As if it's not enough hearing people use the word "Christian" as if it were synomymous with "good", or "moral".

And these seem to incorporate both the cross and the stigmata:

I just view the cross as a symbol for suffering and ignore the Christian connotations.

I want to point out that while similar and it can definitely give that impression, that's not the Christan cross, which is generally shorter horizontally and longer vertically.

I see those crosses as linked to the red cross or hospitals, instead of christianity. While I suppose that those originally sprung from the christian cross aswell, to me they've evolved beyond that already.

Actually that is called a Greek Cross, which was the standart cross in early Chritianity, and continues to be used as a primary Christian symbol by the Orthdox Church and most Eastern Chrches.

Despite what many think, the Red Cross is in fact a Christian symbol. The name of the International Organization is "the International Red Cross and Red Crescent", and in Muslem countries the organization uses a red crescent instead of the cross. Also, it is easy to consider a symbol to be "evolved beyond" your religion, when it is the symbol of your religion.

so are we goin to say that an   "X"   is a part of christianity cause its a slightly tilted cross?  why are we looking so hard for religous symbolism?  I can understand it, but its nowhere near worth bringing up

x1000.

Though this can be handled differently. If some people of Thedas regard you as a messianic figure, that should not present a problem as long as the story itself is silent about it and I have appropriate ways to reply. As opposed to that, in ME the problem was that the story heavily suggested Shepard actually had that kind of significance, and not just in the eyes of others, so it was impossible to distance yourself from it.

When I see a cross, or perhaps more accurate a plus (+) like that, I think First Aid.  It may have its legacy in Christian symbolism, but it's pretty ubiquitous and secular now IMO.

I'm Christian, but in the greek cross I see more the simble of the Red Cross and pharmacological product, than a religious simble.

You're talking about the cross you posted as being the greek cross, right?

I agree.
Though I'd say there'll be people who thinks we're a type of demon/Anti-Christ, and not a. Messiah, as well.

I this that is a kind of privelege that derives from where you live and what the predominant influence of you culture is (and that is Christianity in most of the Western World, even if you yourself are not Christian). It is no coincidence that several coutries where Christianity is not the principal religion were refused entry to the "International Red Cross and Red Crescent" for many years because they refused to put those symbols in Ambulances, or requested to use both.

Or priveleged people considering a problem that other people have to be dumb.

But this is not the thread for this discussion, so I'm not going to comment about this anymore.
