Considering the Knights Hospitaller are originally Christian warriors from the Crusades, who over timed morphed into providing health and medicinal services and gave rise to the modern term of 'hospital'. So yes, it does have a history and close association with Christianity, the Red Cross, by and large is now associated with health and healing in various ways.
Anyway, its hardly the point of the thread and we should really avoid talking about religion as it is kind of against the rules ![]()

When I see a cross, or perhaps more accurate a plus (+) like that, I think First Aid. It may have its legacy in Christian symbolism, but it's pretty ubiquitous and secular now IMO.
I think the fact that there is a branch called the Red Crescent in Islamic countries is kind of an admission that the cross symbol is not exactly secular, but I don't mind the secular use of it regardless even though I am not Christian, nor would I mind if the commonly used symbol were a crescent, or a six pointed star, or a yin and yang, or spaghetti and meatballs.

Despite what many think, the Red Cross is in fact a Christian symbol. The name of the International Organization is "the International Red Cross and Red Crescent", and in Muslem countries the organization uses a red crescent instead of the cross. Also, it is easy to consider a symbol to be "evolved beyond" your religion, when it is the symbol of your religion.
Red Cross chose the red cross on white background because is the mirror of Switzerland's flag. Since Red Cross was created in Geneva.

Or priveleged people considering a problem that other people have to be dumb.
But this is not the thread for this discussion, so I'm not going to comment about this anymore.
Then why did you bring the symbols up? ![]()

Then why did you bring the symbols up?
I tried to make a point about the Christ-like images in the game. That is all.

It's a Christian avatar used in modern days to symbolize health. Should non-Taoists complain about the usage of their symbol in modern gaming too? I'm kinda "disturbed" by the usage of yin and yang.
Well not really. I'm actually indifferent to usage of symbols in games, because they mean nothing in that setting.

Actually that is called a Greek Cross, which was the standart cross in early Chritianity, and continues to be used as a primary Christian symbol by the Orthdox Church and most Eastern Chrches.

I mostly agree with what you say, I'm just saying that while I know that these symbols were once, or still are religious symbols I feel that they at least for me is a symbol for first aid or medicine, rather than christianity. This isn't the case for many, sure, and I just wanted to share my view on it.
But I don't think this topic really belongs in this thread, so if people want to keep discussing this it'd probably be best to make a new thread about it.

Take the symbols to another thread. This is not the place to discuss them. Thank you very much.

x1000.
Though this can be handled differently. If some people of Thedas regard you as a messianic figure, that should not present a problem as long as the story itself is silent about it and I have appropriate ways to reply. As opposed to that, in ME the problem was that the story heavily suggested Shepard actually had that kind of significance, and not just in the eyes of others, so it was impossible to distance yourself from it.
I like Jesus, I really do. I just don't want to play him. (Or her)

That's a bit like Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize... Now you have to deliver on that promise. ![]()
(I'm not saying saying BioWare won't or hasn't in the past - I liked DA2 even more than I did DAO - I just don't really understand why an award such as that would even exist)

What I'm saying is that you can borrow the imagery without making allusions to the plot. It can be Faux Symbolism.
The author trots out that Battlestar Galactica promotional image as "OMG DIS PREDICTED EVERYTHING" but I would note that the same schtick was used by the Simpsons in the Rapture episode, with Homer in the role of "Jesus." You know who ended up betraying Homer? Nobody, because it was just a joke that the episode closed on. It was meaningless.
To quote a wise philosopher: it's sometimes possible to read too much into this s**t.
Really? The Simpsons' Jesus metaphor was a joke? WOW! I wouldn't have guessed. Seriously... That's like saying South Park's "trip through the anus" scenes are meant to be taken as a metaphor of something, and they turn out to be just an obscene.... scene(?).
Dragon Age on the other hand... the whole universe is full of symbolisms and allusions to real world events. Why on Earth would you bring up Simpsons as something of an example to this not being the case is beyond me..

Look, can we at least keep the conversations linked to the twitter info because this thread is becoming more and more of a joke. I kind of wish that the only posts allowed were twitter posts so people could find information easily.
